spiderman 2

I read the preview on gamespy.com. Supposely, its supposed to be a large open city (like GTA). You can go all around this replica of Manhattan and beat up muggers and purse snatchers...as well as the usual Spidey bad guys...

some places are selling it early, I didn't believe it either but then I saw it yesterday, but I'm too cheap to plunk down the 49.99.

Street date is the 29th, stores can get fined if they break it. But anyway, I opened up a copy at work and played it till a little after the 4th chapter. Now, I don't know how many chapters are in the game but I got there pretty easy.

The game is I feel more similar to City of Heroes. You have the big city, traffic and everything. At certain places you can get a new "mission" from people on the street along with your main mission. You earn hero points and stuff like that.

Let me get this out of the way, the game ain't pretty. I played the Xbox version which should be the best looking version. There are points that it looks really good swinging in the city really fast but the way the characters look. It is very THUG/True Crime. I mean at least Spider-Man's model and texture should be clean and beautiful. It ain't. Especially since alot of times you are very up close to him and you can see the texture all jaggy and stuff.

Also while voice work is pretty good, the lip sync isn't. It seems like they didn't even try. At one point while as Peter talking to I think Jameson, Peter's hand just started twitching. Also I was playing it every so often, leaving and coming back. One time I left during a load screen and came back and the game was frozen on the load screen.

Hopefully the entire game is not rushed. Swinging takes some getting used to. There is an easy mode that I didn't pick. But the more and more you play, you end up learning new ways to swing but there are times that you feel that you just can't control yourself.

I mean camera angles as a whole are not that bad, but like jumping around swings the camera rreally fast. I am just dissapointed in the way the characters look. It seems like if you cannot get it to look exactly like the movie, why really try. Alot of times Peter looks like a hunch back or something like he has no neck.

I would have much rather it went and gone into say a more "comic book" style. I kinda hoped that the HULK game would have went more realistic. But now because of this game I kinda figured what happen with that game was that they knew they couldn't really get ti to look that good like the movie. So instead they went with a unquie look that helped the game.

That is what Activision should have did with this game. It is just too THUG/TC in it's visual style and kinda makes it look bland. Also dispite the vast city, the game is very liner. Complete missions go to next chapter. Sure there are side missions, but it doesn't make it non-liner.

I mean total time I spent with the game was maybe an hour going back and forth and restarting it. I got up to beating Rhino. He is sort of a mixture of the classic version and the Ultimate version. For some reason he has spikes on his shoulders. I also saw Black Cat.

I am a real comic book fan but it just seemd to me kinda blah. She looked hot, but she had like short hair. Black Cat with long hair always looked better, more flowing. I would like to rent it but with already getting to the 4th chapter in my first hour, I don't know how much time it would take to complete the game. Good or bad.

Thanks for the update BBB, although I find it a little disappointing. I still plan on buying it at release from BB. Probably Xbox, but possibly PS2 if there are differences in the PS2's favor. I'm thinking about getting the GBA version also if it looks decent ($10 GC offer at CC).

anybody read any good reviews or pick it up yet? Seen the new movie? I have never been a huge fan of movie games but this one looks decent.

I picked up the game yesterday. Its fun to swing around, and get to be Spiderman. The random crimes that you have to do to get hero points (which are required to advance chapters) get boring after awhile, but the plot is good.
I got it at Best Buy with the free Gamepro magazine $5 off coupon, and Ill be sending in the $15 mail in gift card tomarrow.

I did that as well.. went to BB, got it for $44 after the $5 GP coupon, then a $15 rebate.. so basically $29.99.. also picked up Outlaw Volleyball. I basically echo everything up there, but it's just damn cool to swing around the city once you get the hang of it. I figured out how to do a slingshot with the webs today.

And seeing ragdoll physics (a bit of them, anyways) on spiderman and the bad guys is weird.

i have been playing this game for the past couple of days and have completed all of the chapters and now gained the extra 50,000 hero points. i have not completed any of the token collections, in fact i have only earned a few of the awards. are there any new surprises that are worth putting more time into this game?

After I beat the last chapter, and bought Web Swing 8 I pretty much beat the game in my eyes...this game sorely needed a New Game + or Time Attack, I turned it into Gamerush while the credit was good (I got 25 dollars) and I plan on buying it used later.

Trade it back before the price drops, I got 28 bucks for it at Gamestop. You get nothing for completeing everything other than satisfaction.

That's a bear on the toilet.

I'm wondering if I should trade it in and pick it back up when it goes down.. naah, it's just too fun swinging around town.

Batman just has hairy legs, I traded mine in for ESPN NFL 2K5 and a new Game Informer Subsciption, no money changed hands, definatley a worth while trade, Maybe when spiderman2 drops down to 15 bucks (which it will, mark my words) I'll pick it up again.

Its defineately a buy...but you know it will drop like a rock when the movie leaves theaters.

Wait a few months and then pick it up.

The only things you get when you beat the extra missions is satisfaction, the pizza missions feel just thrown in there and you'll want to throw your controller through the window after hearing the 'pizza delivery' music for about 2 minutes straight.
