Nobody likes the VGA on Spike TV, and after looking at this list, I think everyone will dislike them more. If you're like me, you'll think that most of the nominations don't make sense (thus the winners don't make sense, sans a few categories). Well, here they are, my favorite categories... MOST ADDICTIVE GAME FUELED BY MOUNTAIN DEW and PONTIAC BEST DRIVING GAME AWARD!!
LOS ANGELES--The "First Network for Men" taped its third annual awards show for games Friday night in a star-studded affair set to air next month.

Spike TV held the 2005 Video Game Awards at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles with a variety of rappers, rockers, and movie stars praising the winners of categories voted on by industry veterans and Spike viewers.

This year, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane) served as MC, delivering award show banter with a gaming twist and introducing performances by Missy Elliott and Def Leppard. Rapper 50 Cent, who also performed on the show, apparently needed no introduction.

Also appearing on the show were Snoop Dogg (last year's host), Carmen Electra, The Rock, Vin Diesel, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Carson Daly.

As for the big winners, World of Warcraft took home awards for Best Multiplayer Game, Best PC Game, Best RPG, and Most Addictive Game Fueled by Mountain Dew. Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie wasn't far behind, taking home awards for Best Cast, Best Performance by a Human--Male, and Best Game Based on a Movie. Resident Evil 4 also had a good night, bringing home the Game of the Year award, as well as Best Graphics.

The night did have a few surprises, as Kiefer Sutherland gave a world premiere peek at the upcoming game based on his hit show 24, and the audience was treated to new footage of Scarface: The World is Yours, and Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run (introduced in person by The Rock).
I stopped reading when I saw that King King was nominated. That game isn't on shelves yet. If they don't want to make their show look like they're just whoring the games for whatever publishers offered up the most payola they should really limit it to games that were released prior to when they announced any nominations.
Wait Christopher Walken is in a game?

Oh and psp beat 360! Wait coming from spike thats not a good thing ...
Walken was in True Crimes: Streets of LA as well. I actually thought it was a sound-a-like until I saw a preview for True Crimes: NYC and they asked if Walken would be back.

How is King Kong nominated for stuff when it doesn't come out for a few days? Kind of fishy.

Based on that list does anyone else think it's likely Vivendi, Activision, and Atari offered up some payola?

I am surprised RE 4 won game of the year on spike. I was sure it would go to 50 cent or another game that isn't even out yet.

the overall choices weren't as bad as the first post lead me to believe they would be. There are some questionable choices, but that happens with all award shows

Better than the previous years I would say. I'm glad they got Game of the Year right. Still some stupid winners like Fight Night 2 though.

Lets see which one's did I get right. I predicted the winners in the original spike tv vga topic.

It's almost as though Snoop Dogg selected the winners.

A loose grip on gaming.

Bah, Devil May Cry 3 wasn't even nominated for Action game and that friggin no cents game was nominated in that category when it isn't even out yet.

It's 'cause Fiddy, you hott.

Outside of the fighting game winner, I don't think the choices were all that horrible. Plus, Guitar Hero won best soundtrack, which is awesome.

Wasn't it the VGAs that gave Madden a Game Of The Year award once? Considering that, they've come a long way with more sensical winners like RE4, Guitar Hero, and Katamari. But I'm still never going to watch that putrid junk. Fool me once...

yeah its better than the last 2 years, but still has a long way to go, i mean fight night round 2? cmon! also, why were aeon flux and king kong nominated for so many damn awards, they arent even out. plus those sponosered categories, fueled by dew and pontiac, disgusting. best first person FEAR? 50 Cent, best original song! I think i need to become really famous and rich in the next week, so i can run this next year.

How could a game that wasn't nominated for GotY win the award?
