I don't have 20 hours to play it over the next few days, nor would I want to play that much in a short period of time. If I did, probably how I'd feel after playing 20 hours of the original Final Fight... It's best in small doses ;)

It has the feel of an actual arcade game, most of which you'd never play for 20 hours w/o getting bored. The arcade feel is what I expected, but if you expect more, you'll likely be disappointed.
ummmmmmmm... yyyyyeah.

didn't mean (or say) 20 consecutive hours.

not sure how you got that idea ??

any $50 game that doesn't provide more than a few hours of solid entertainment is (imo) a waste of cash and should just be rented.

also i don't give a rip if something is arcade-y or not... style of gameplay/genre is 100% irrelevant to worth/value of a game based on it's price point

either it has legs... or it doesn't
simple as that

i've invested MORE time overall in GOOD arcade style games than I have in many Action/Adventure/RPG titles. if the gameplay is good i'll keep coming back again and again...

if the gameplay is repetitive and monotonous, well then... i'd probably play it for about two hours and never think about it again.

which goes to my original point

;) x 100

Spikeout is a $30 title. It's a good price point for an arcade style game. Sorry that you think it is overpriced. $30 for this type of game is fine with me. Heck, I'm just glad games like this occasionally still get released.

Calm down, you misunderstood my post. I did not say 20 consecutive hours, I said 20 hours over the next few days.

In any case, if you don't like the game, that's fine. I like it. I had fun playing it last night. I'm not going to play it for 20 hours anytime soon, nor do I really want to. If you spent the $30 and hate it, trade it back to EB, or to someone on this forum. Don't bitch at me because I think it accomplishes it's one task well, which is to replicate the feel of an old-school arcade beat-em-up.

Cheers to you shipwreck, I loved the ass-kickin' I got to deliver while playing this last night ;)

I dunno what's with you guys. Spikeout is great. Very challenging, XBOXlive playable, very deep fighting system(For a beatemup even), and overall a great game. I've already thrown four hours into it and that's just on the story mode.

I've yet to even get into the Battle Street mode(The actual meat of the game) and get around to unlocking the 40+ playable characters.

I also made sure to preorder at Ebgames a long time ago so as not to deal with this insanity.

All this adds up to a game that you'll finish in two hours or fewer. After that...do it again. You do want to unlock every single character, don't you?

Well, let us answer that question. No, you don't really want to unlock every single character, because most of them are almost identical.

Graphically, Spikeout isn't much to look at. The character models are pretty bad, the environments are drab, and the animation is as repetitive as the gameplay. The sound is "coooooool," though. Actually, no, it's not. The music is the sort of generic metal that you'd expect to hear in a budget action game like this. The sound effects are dull, and the voice work--which consists of the game shouting out "Here comes the boss!" and, of course, the weak stuff done in the story mode--is pretty bad. Presentation-wise, this would be a pretty-good-looking Dreamcast game. On the Xbox, it's fair, at best.

Spikeout: Battle Street will find its fans. People that are totally hooked on unlockables will find a lot of dudes to unlock here, and if you're an absolute fiend for cooperative gameplay, it's nice that the game offers it up, even though you'll only get about two hours of content. Unless you fall into one or both of these camps, Spikeout isn't for you. It's nice to dream that someday someone will be able to successfully bring the Final Fight concept to 3D. But as more and more 3D games totally flub the concept, one starts to wonder if maybe this is an impossible dream.

i guess it's just a matter of taste

I don't own this game, I don't intend to own this game unless I find it really cheap, but I just wish you would STFU and move along. I come in here trying to find deals and/or impressions and you just sit here posting your opinions over and over again. Either post a damn deal or get out.

also you might want to watch getting emotionally involved in message boards postings.

it's a sign of social detachment and perhaps addiction to teh internets.... :0

i'm gonna go ahead and keep posting my opinion where i feel like it.. since it's a message board and all.

thanks for the super kind words of advice though!!!

PKRipp3r's posts make me wonder if he has even played the game.

GameSpot is retarded. I never even think about reading their reviews, because all they do is glare at the technicalities with an iron eye. They almost never say anything about how FUN a game is, even though that's the entire point of most games... ESPECIALLY an arcade game. That review of Spikeout was even worse than normal. It's pretty obvious that their reviewer came to the game with an entirely pessimistic view.

I played Spikeout 9+ hours in two sittings in one day (the break being for dinner) last Saturday. And that was ALL single-player time, which is, what, 1/4 of the game? And right now I can't wait to get back home this weekend to play the game coop with my brother and on Live with a friend who just got it.

I have indeed played the game.

I would never slag off a title that I hadn't played... unless I was taking a shot at the box art or something...

Glad you are enjoying it.

After all it does take diff'rent strokes to move the world. :)

ok, how about IGN?

"It's not a great purchase, given the amazingly retarded dialog, kindergarten-level mission designs, and monkey-brained AI,..."

lmao

I am finding this thread to be more entertaining than the actual game.

Of course it's just my opinion that the game is of poor quality, and when it comes to enjoying bad games I'm not one to talk (Tenchu junkie).

It's always a blast when people start getting into a heated debate over opinion. :)

I agree

and perhaps this would be an auspicious time for me to remark that I own and enjoy State Of Emergency on a regular basis
