Splinter Cell Conviction (360) CE $39.99 @ Amazon

Nice deal -- I have some Amazon credit so this is tempting. I admit though that while I have all the Splinter Cell games (in fact, the first was one of my initial Xbox games), I never quite got into this series as I did the other franchises.

Can anyone tell me whether I need to have played the others to enjoy this? Is this a stand-alone game?

I've heard it's quite different from prior SC games; in what way? Is it more action and less stealth (which IMHO is a good thing nowadays)?

It is quite different from the other Splinter Cell games, and the story is too convoluted to worry about the previous games anyway.

There's a lot of debate about whether or not Conviction is "good," but the general consensus seems to be if you love the first games, this will disappointment, but if you have no preconceptions about this game, you'll love it.

I'm different in that I like the older games, but love this one.

this game has VERY little emphasis on stealth. I was able to beat it on the hardest difficulty just by running and gunning... a feat I could never do in previous SC games.

ive never played any other splinter cell just this one -game was awesome-story on its own made sense to me-and i don't know shit of his previous history

honestly i really liked it had a lot of fun playing it-yeah there is stealth involved but alot more action-would have like to play the multi-but i had to trade in last month to get a real good deal on just playing the story mode-i would def recommend this game-shouldnt be hard to recoup some of your cash back when you-r done with it either
dang i wanted the ps3 version ;)
This one is a 360 exclusive.

And thx everyone for the feedback.

I liked the old SC games fine but this one requires a lot less trial and error in its gameplay...that's a plus for me. I love stealth on occasion but I was rather tired of SC's.

I loved Pandora Tomorrow (single and multiplayer) and I love this game- maybe my favorite this gen. Story mode wasn't great for me but the gameplay is awesome and I love the denial ops modes- especially with a friend. It is a shame the merv vs spy is gone- Pandora's multiplayer is the best multiplayer EVER!

Best Buy has the regular version for 19.99, in case people don't care about the CE

Edit: Also, BigGameVendor has the CE for 31 cents cheaper, fulfilled through Amazon, which actually makes the regular version 7 cents more expensive on Amazon LOL

It looks like toysrus.com has the collectors edition at $38.49 but theres probably shipping and tax involved. Great deal on the normal one edition from best buy. I've been a hardcore Splinter Cell fan but I heard I wouldn't like this version and the demo made me reconsider purchasing it at $60 so I've been waiting for it to become $20 before I buy it.
Can you use @Gamer coupons online? Since this edition had a $15 off Conviction.
yeah for $5 that would be a definite buy for me...

This is a really tough call. I want this game since it's unlike other Splinter Cell's (I'm not too great at stealth), but if I get this I wanna go all in for the CE. CURSE THE CHOICE MAKING PROCESS!!!

If this is still happening on the 29th, when the @Gamer coupons go into effect, I'll buy the magazine just for that coupon. I'll have them scan the coupon at the register to see if it works before I buy the magazine.

Even if it doesn't, at this price I would probably get the game

can't tell if you're saying this is a bad thing..for that fact alone was why I loved it! First SC game I could ever get into and I recently started it up again, only a few chapters from the end. I really enjoy it! one of my favorite games of the year!

As a huge SC fan, Conviction is my 2nd favorite in the series (Chaos Theory being #1).

It was a huge shift from the style of the earlier games but the writing, engine, and game mechanics made for an enjoyable experience.

For $20, its a no brainer.
Heck, the multiplayer is worth that alone.

I've been wanting this game, and was contemplating trading some stuff in for it. Glad I didn't, as $20 is a great price! The cheapest I could find was $30 for a used copy at Blockbuster.

$20 is a good price for me. The demo was fun, but I still can't help but lament the change in gameplay, the whole "blend in the crowd" stuff they were previewing a few years back would've been pretty damn cool IMO

Man, this is a tough call. This game isn't a must-have for me, but $20 might just be too good to pass up. Trying to make sure I have enough to get all the games I want through the end of this year.

The $15 off coupon doesn't become active until 8/29. Most of Best Buy's sale prices reset to normal price on sunday so if you want this game your best bet is to go ahead and buy it now for $20 and then check pricing again on Sunday to see the sale price is still active.....if it is you could do a return / re-buy and use the coupon on top of the sale price.

Anyone thinking about paying twice to get the CE should know that the extras suck and it's an extremely poor package. You get a USB stick which may or may not work, a crappy art book, and a clunky metal case. It does come with a DLC code redeemable for the best gun in the game but it's not worth $20 extra just for that.

$20, on the other hand, is just the right price for a game this short and easy.

You just saved me $20. Thank you, good sir. :applause:

Personally I think its worth it for the steelbook alone (lol@ clunky metal case)

It's different indeed but I don't think it's "bad". I enjoyed it and the co-op stuff a great deal.

Just picked it up at lunch at my local BB. The shelf tag still read $59.99 but it rang up at $19.99. Manager said he woudl have honored the $19.99 prices whether it rang up that way or not.

I'm hoping Ubisoft does an HD remake (a la GoW & Sly Cooper) and has the first 3 SC's on one disc, with this one coming out on the PS3 next year.

I am the same way. To be honest as of now this is still my GOTY. I played the hell out of this game and got the 1K in like less than a week. Then my buddy and I destroyed the DLC in a night to get the full 1250/1250! :)
