They do this I've heard.

What do you mean by making that my minimum?

I'm looking the benefits book and it says this:
Son... you need to max out that 401k contribution ASAP. I don't care if you have to live on Ramen noodles for a few years. You'll be livin the high life when you retire/quit/get fired.
I have that on the Wii!
Yeah, I'm not into paying $250 for a wii which I'll never play and $40+ probably for a used copy of Ikaruga (GCN) so I can play it in a stunning 480p on my HDTV. fuck that. $10 total for a HD version with acheivements? we know where the winner is here.

They will match $3 for every 1 you contribute?!?!? WOW!

What he means is that some employers will match whatever you contribute to your 401K up to a percentage of your salary.

For example, for every $1 you contribute, your employer will match that by $3.00. But you can only contribute up to X percentage before they stop matching.
ikaruga 4/9 -- fuck, i'll need that points card soon, i guess.
I bought it on my cube years ago...barely played it...Didn't see the big deal.

Damn I'm an observant fucker. Just noticed my avatar still has a santa hat. Hmmm... what's the next upcoming holiday. If it was easter, I'd just put an easter egg up his ass or something.
If you're working for a place that is doing a 300% match on your 401K, I need to start working there immediately.

I'm thinking you're reading it wrong, and they're giving you $1 for every $3 you put in. 33% seems more likely than 300%.
Truth.

But there's likely a cap.

A Winner is You?
Usually, the matching thing is on a percentage basis, otherwise you could take a LOT of money from the company, providing you could afford to defer something like 80% of your pretax incoming.

For example... my company does something like matching $1 for $1 on the first 3% and $.50 for $10 up to 6%, or something like that. So when I tell payroll how much I'd like deducted to be diverted to my 401k, it's 6% at minimum, so I get all the free money my company wants to throw at me. Any less would be leaving money on the table, gnome sayin?
Mine used to do 50% match on up to 6%, though you had to contribute to get the benefit. Now, they're giving everyone 3% regardless of what they contribute.

Which reminds me, I get vested in my full balance come September 1.
Son... you need to max out that 401k contribution ASAP. I don't care if you have to live on Ramen noodles for a few years. You'll be livin the high life when you retire/quit/get fired.
Probably the last one out of those three.
I bought it on my cube years ago...barely played it...Didn't see the big deal.
it's a quality/unique shmup? when was the last awesome shmup that came out? the only shmups I can even think about would be Aegis Wing and Triggerhearts Exclica or whatever. I would guess you were never the gradius/lifeforce/parodius/axelay/etc. type guy? (you did like Area 51 Blacksite, but we'll let that one slide. ;) )

My company matches 140% up to 6% of your salary, and pays an additional 3% of your salary discretionary payment in January...It's why I stick around.
300% match is abap. If you've been leaving that on the table for a while you're a :dunce:
QFT. 300% is insane. They best one I know someone has is 100% up to 10%.

Nuh uh! Aegis Wing is a shmide. Or maybe a shmight.

Also you didn't invite me in for the last stage so I hate you because you are so mean!
QFT. 300% is insane. They best one I know someone has is 100% up to 10%.
Damn, even that's insane. My old company was $1 for $1 on the first 3% and $.50 for $1 on the next 2%. ie- you'd get $4 for your $5. The company I'm with now contributes $0. But at least all my other benefits kick some serious nutz.

It's kinda sad when I'm browsing Craiglist and I see a post for "lots of mice, USB crap, etc." and I immediately click it thinking I'm going to see lots of furry poop machines. I've definitely been at work too long. 12 hours and counting...

Yeah I've got 401K here but no matching so I don't partake. My wife's employer does though.
We are 100% employee owned so we get monthly bonus checks, year end bonuses, & 25% of your salary toward retirement as company stock. woot.

Ok, I just talked to some people.

It's 300% up to 5%.

So I should make 5% of my pre-tax income go to the 401k right?
My company matches 140% up to 6% of your salary, and pays an additional 3% of your salary discretionary payment in January...It's why I stick around.
Damn, that's pretty nice. Good reason to stick around.

If you put in 5% of your salary, you'd be banking 20% of your salary. What do you think? :D

Yes, go put in 5%.

It's pre-tax, so it'll reduce your taxable income, so you'll be paying less taxes on less money. Win-win.

You should be sprinting to your HR department to make that update to your plan.

Is the match in company stock? Don't put any of it in company stock if you can help it.

See if you can get shares of BLPSX. It's a mutual fund that invests in sealed black label PS1 games.

I was into Gradius/Lifeforce...Also loved 1943...Jackal (although not an airplane shooter still a shooter). I just didn't enjoy Ikaruga. I tried the JPN demo of Raiden Fighter Aces, that was pretty sweet.

BTW: I only liked the first level of Area 51...once I got past that it was all crap.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

And no, no stock Wubb.
300% match w/ it having to go to company stock would still be great but that match into any of the funds on your plan is outstanding.

Ah, Jackal. That shite brought back a lot of memories.
Lifeforce & Jackal :drool::drool::drool:

How'd you know? You are to make your contributions via cash in plain manilla envelopes dallow.

Is 5% the cap for matching @ 300% or matching in general?

If it's the latter, 5%. If they match after the 300%, do whatever the cap limit is for matching overall.

My company, at least, allows you access to your funds... and you can choose, to an extent, how they are invested. moderate risk, high risk, low risk, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, etc.

I know many at CAG and other forums don't like Hilary Clinton, but it's interesting because she's coming to a restaurant just down the street from me within a few hours (can only hold 90 people). Right now there's a huge crowd of people everywhere and all the news trucks awaiting for her to arrive.

Obama has made a few speeches around my state (hasn't visited my local area yet), and Bill Clinton was campaigning for his wife at a few schools around my state (like he was just in my college town a few days ago).

It's interesting because a democratic hasn't won the state of Indiana since the 1964 presidential election (when Lyndon Johnson was running for re-election), and now we actually have presidential candidates in my state for once (my state is usually ignored). Even when George Bush Sr. had Dan Quayle (who was born in the county adjacent from me), my state never got this much attention (He only had like 1-2 speeches here).
Did LordWow really quit CAG?
Nah, he's out of town. Said something about visiting his cousin Lord Licorice.
That's the word.
He'll be back. Leaving forums is a very hard thing to do. I say many times I will leave CAG and other forums, but I end up coming back.

The reason I sometimes want to leave CAG is to spend more time getting other things accomplished, but I have such wonderful friends here, I want to stay. :)
Mine does as well, and mine's tossed into high risk, which is still seeing returns even in this shitty economy.
I'm too scared to get in the aggressive deal.

Not for everyone, and not for the same reasons. You'll see a few more people leave over the next couple of weeks, they'll just up and not post anymore.

I posted on CZ28.com for a good number of years, before I finally got tired of every woman over 105lbs being called fat. Depending on why you want to leave, the choice can be very easy, even if you've been a member for a long time.
I could never leave CAG. Unless the shit really hit the fan and everybody else left.
Turn the lights out for us someday budge.

Mine is in agressive funds as well...European Stocks of all things...It's been shitting the bed recently, but I'm in it for the long haul.

I was able to move most the funds around and put them into a Money Market Fund @ 3% return but still keeping some of the agressive European funds. But that's only temproary until the market goes up again, then it's all into those stocks again.
