Square Enix finally commits to PS1 games on PSN

Let Rakugaki Showtime hit the hong kong store. The games are cheaper there. They're essentially four dollars each over there "4.25 if you want to get technical" I own 15 PSone games from the hong kong store alone.
 
I'm surprised they didn't go with any Final Fantasy games. Seems like money makers.

Yeah, they could put every Final Fantasy on PSN and just watch the money pour in. Hell, can you imagine how many people would download FFVII alone? They could price it at $20 at still make millions.
 
Square doesn't like digital distribution as a rule (at least for now).

This has been known for a good while. They know they can bilk out thirty bucks a pop or more with a re-re-re-re-re-remake-re-release.

For some reason they think making it available digitally would destroy physical sales. I can see where they are coming from, but I don't think it makes sense. Digitally release the original, give an update 2 months later for five times the price.

There's part where i agree with you, and part a great big "ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..." as well.

They can release Final Fantasy fuckin' Whatever and make a trillion bucks off of it.

Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Musashi, Vagrant Story, SaGa series? Not so much.
 
They could do the Final Fantasies, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, and the Parasite Eves and leave it at that. Those games alone could add several million to Square's bottom line ever year. From a financial stand point, it makes more sense than releasing remakes to low sales. Then again, companies rarely do things that makes sense.

Isn't that what I said though? I'm guessing you're wondering why their lesser-series titles aren't being released digitally?

Seems like you are answering your own question - they won't release those titles that few people want, even digitally.

Seems in line with what I was saying, but maybe I'm not getting your angle.

Edit: BTW, I'd kill for a remake of Vagrant Story. There's a title screaming for next-gen power. Much like Shadow of the Colossus, which I am currently playing through. Just give me a high FPS and cleaner graphics.
 
Ah nice. Einhander! Already have, but would consider a re-purchase if there's any special features added into it.

I remember playing the demo and loved it. I picked it up and it sits on my shelf sealed with an EB games sticker from the mid 90s on it. I think I played Final Fantasy 7 and never went back. Still a great game though.
 
It'd be nice if they'd re-release Xenogears with support for higher resolutions. Doesn't look the best on my 50", so if they gave it 720/1080 support I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
 
Brave Fencer Musashi and Ehrgeiz hit the Japanese Playstation store a couple days ago. I would've gotten Ehrgeiz if I still had any yen on my Japanese account.

It'd be nice if they released Xenogears PERIOD. The S-E deal is only in Japan for now. Like all the fucking PSX titles for download.

SCEA is still jerking off on each other's chests instead of releasing PSX content on the PSN.

Anybody want Syphon Filter 3? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?
