ssd on p5n-e sli not showing up

CAGiversary!
Anybody install an ssd on a p5n-e sli or other 650i based motherboard? I have the latest nForce drivers and BIOS but for some reason I just can't see the drive in Windows 7. Shows up just fine in the BIOS, but not in Windows 7 or Linux Mint.

So it's not in the list in Windows 7 where you do:

Start -> Right Click "Computer" and select "Manage" -> Storage -> Disk Management

Correct? If it is, all you have to do is format it and give it a drive letter.

If it isn't, next step is to check the device manager (Go to "Properties" of "Computer" in the Start Menu instead of "Manage") under Disk Drives. Then check for any unknown devices in the list and install the correct drivers for them. Shouldn't need to though.

It's not listed under Disk Management and there are no unknown devices in Device Manager. I think I might try booting UBCD to at least format the drive and write a boot sector/MBR to it.

That may work, not sure. I haven't dealt with enough SSDs yet to really know the ins and outs of issues with them.

One thing you could try is opening up a command prompt and typing in "diskpart" and then "list disk" and see if it's on there. If it is, manually format it through command line.

yea it doesn't show up on the list of disks which is why I couldn't do a regular clone with Acronis or a fresh install through the Windows 7 DVD

Do you have it set as AHCI (or is that even an option) in the BIOS? I have one at home, but haven't taken the jump to install it yet, so I'm not too familiar with them.

the p5n-e sli does not have AHCI, so its running in IDE Mode, I tried like everything I could think of so far, it seems like I am going to have to use a 2nd system to get the disk running first and even then I am not sure if it would work because it seems like its a driver issue with either the MS IDE driver or the Nvidia SATA driver not actually supporting an SSD on this board

plugged in a Vertex instead today, worked flawlessly. So, don't buy a Kingston drive if you run an nForce 650 motherboard, its not compatible (probably safest to avoid it for all nForce chipsets).
