Standing in line for hours for PS3?

I feel a lot dumber for having read the last few posts. At no point did any of your incoherant rambling did you make what could be considered a rational thought. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

And I'll never wait in line for a PS3, it's way too expensive. Guess there's a lot of richasses here. I'm a poor student, donate money to the "Help super_nerd get a PS3" fund.
 
I plan to get my PS3 at Costco. Hopefully the crowd won't be a big because you need a membership to shop there. Plus if I decide to keep it I will have the Costco return policy if my PS3 turns out to be a dud and breaks on me. Now to figure out when to actually start lining up to get one.
 
I'm going to buy a PS3 but I'm not standing in line for 24hrs. With the high demand and low supply for this console, you'd have to be in line well over 12 hours to get one console. I'd rather skip that and get a Wii and then buy a PS3 July 07.

Just thought I'd give you the heads up about Costco. I went with the same idea for the X360 launch the day before to see the situation. To my surprise, I found out that actual warehouses dont get the units until about a week later because they are packaged first with controllers and whatnot.

Just thought I'd let you know!

Thanks for the heads up Orbitalint. I'll start calling them in November to find out the exact date they will start getting them. I figured you'll be forced to buy it in a bundle with a controller and a game. Hopefully, the game your forced to buy will be a good one.
 
I dont know about Costco, but at Sams the 360 bundle was simply the premium 360, an extra controller, and a plug and play for about 450... I missed out by 3 people, will not make the same mistake... I took it for granted less people have the business memberships and expected smooth sailing... there was a nice line when I arrived...
 
I was thinking of taking the 16th off. As soon as I drop off the rugrats at daycare I'm going to hop in line @ BB ... am I being over zealous?

Also, was thiniking about waiting for the TRU preorder, but don't want to deal with all the TMZ Elmo psycho-moms.

Anyone going to brave either wait in line in MN?

MN was cold when I waited for the Wii at GS. Have fun - bring a blanket (pillow if you want), coat, gloves, socks, and anything that will keep you awake. And I wish there will be snow on the 17th :D!

the only, and I do mean the only fucken times I have ever, ever camped out for anything was for tickets for the first showing of Star wars: TPM.. 3 hr wait but I got it and waited 3 hrs in line for the 2004 DVD release of the original SE trilogy on DVD at midnight. It was fun because BB had prizes and free pizza.

I seriously doubt BB is gonna give out free 50$ gift cards or anything..just take your money, force you to buy a shitty bundle and also force the shitty warranty down your throat. It took me 5 years to wait for the PS2 to drop to a good price... so I can wait this out.
 
So for WalMart... they have to get them, and they are open 24/7, so is this sa for sure thing...? those who have done it before... do you just line up in the electronics department? i am seriously willing to do this.. take work off thurs and go camp out... let me know thanks
 
I plan on going at 12pm on the 16th. If there are more than 6 people there I'm just going to head home. I wish I could get there earlier but I just can't.

Do the managers usually tell the campers how many units they got? I plan on going to Bestbuy.

Sadly, they aren't all the same. Seems they can deside for themselves how to do their launches. You might want to check in with your local store to see how they are planning on handling it.
 
Asked the TRU manager in Deerfield, IL today about pre-sale on sunday. He said they are getting 10 PS3 units, and they are only offering presale on Wii this sunday. Maybe he is lying, but he said he will not do a presale unless corporate tells him too
 
I preordered in two places, GS, and FYE, I guess I'll call about a week before launch to make sure they're going to be able to meet their preorder quota. I camped out for about 3 hours to get a preorder at GS, the time went by quick talking with people and playing psp. If my preorders fall though then I'll go camp out, just have to be prepared and be careful.
 
so i'm still kinda wondering ... for people without preorders, how long do you plan to camp out?

well wherever i go its going to be 1200 pm on thursday... if thats too late oh well :whistle2:/... although i could skip school, but waiting over 14 hours isnt worth it for my 2nd system
 
The only REALLY close store to where I live is an ebgames, but from what I hear they sold almost all their ps3's as preorders? It's right in the middle of a large college campus anyways...

Other than that around here I could camp at either Target, Best Buy, Wal-mart, Circuit City, or Toys-R-Us, all of which are about the same distance to where I live (all pretty much in the same area too). Anybody have any recommendations on where to go (as in is there a store that people tend to go to less that will get more of them in stock)? Or should I just call them on the 16th to find out how many they got in stock and maybe check the lines of a few stores? Someone asked something similar really early in the topic but I didn't see any responses to it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I personally am going to go to my local Wal-Mart as it is 24hrs and so you can be inside the whole time.

for $500 to 1000 of profit, imo it is worth waiting 10 to 12 hours for, i mean that is about 80 to $100 per hour, i MAYBE make $15 per hour so it is definitely worth it(moneywise). As for the idea "cant you wait a week"? Well the second shipment might not arrive in stores until 2k7. And by then ebay prices will have dropped.
