Star Fox Assault, what a disappointment

I'm probably a few years late on this but I picked up the game for $10 at the KB clearance in fall 2005. I finally got around to opening it 2 weeks ago and just completed the game today.

I had high expecations for this game after really enjoying Starfox 64 but this game didn't live up to them.

The flying missions were great but too much of the game felt like it was a 3rd person shooter that was fusutrating.

Plus it was way too short at only 10 levels/missions.

What is everyone's opinions on the game?

I have Starfox Adventures still sealed and I'm hesitant to even try that game since it sounds even worse.

It was ok.
I'm not sure why they went with the 3rd person shooting for most of the game, but they could of at least spiced up the gameplay a bit. Most of the objections in the game were the same in every area.

If it didn't have the Star Fox characters in it I have parted with it long ago. Soundtrack is fantastic at least.

I bought it at release (but for only $30 using one of those wonderful GR trade-in deals) and enjoyed it quite a bit. Yes, I thought it was too short, but that was my only complaint. I've always meant to go back and get all golds on the missions but haven't yet. Of course, I hadn't played any other Star Fox games to compare it to, so I couldn't have been "disappointed" with it unless it was just plain out a bad game. Which it was not, IMO.

My roommate shares the same feelings. He's not a Nintendo player and hasn't played any Star Fox games. But, when we were at Target, he was playing the Star Fox demo and said it was awesome.

I started playing Adventures, and I'm not too sure if I'm liking it. I definitely was not liking Star Fox Command. The whole fight enemies-in-an-arena didn't work well for that game. It's just becoming work to beat.

EDIT: Said Assault instead of Command...

i bought adventures at release (in anticipation of a great starfox game for cube) and thought it was gawd awful! assault was fun after playing the demo

but thats just my opinion on those 2 games....

Just curious, which is better:

The little flying level at the beginning of Star Fox Adventures or Star Fox Assault.

I have Star Fox Adventures and the little flying level where you had to pass 3 rings was fun, but after that I never got into the game. Maybe I will try again someday.

That's because the game was supposed to be about dinosaurs before Miyamoto thought they should shove the Star Fox universe (and therefore, some flying levels) into the game.

I bought Adventures upon its release for $50 and enjoyed it very much.

Assault I picked up about a month ago for $10 at Target and I was sorely dissapointed. I completed the main game in a couple hours and haven't gone back to it since. It's ugly, especially after looking at what Rare did with Adventures years earlier, and it's just no fun to play. Even multiplayer was pretty dissapointing. My friends and I shut it off after about 10 rounds.

I don't understand what Nintendo is thinking. Star Fox is a space ship game, that's it. If they want to do a spinoff fine, but make at least one Star Fox game a gen JUST be flying.

I gave up at the third level, you are timed and are foot, fuck that.

Simple, Nintendo didn't make it, Namco did. And everyone knows that their track record lately has been hit or miss(and mostly miss). If Nintendo wants Star Fox to be big again, stop letting outside developers work on it(Adventures, Assault & Command were all outside developers).

As for the game, I used the free rental coupon from mycokerewards.com on it and I'm glad. That game was too short and the on foot levels had to have the lamest targeting system I've played in a game. I rented it on a friday and took it back sunday morning(it was due the following friday, but didn't want to see that game anymore after the lame story and awful gameplay). Hopefully if the Wii gets a Star Fox game, Nintendo will find a way to send a demo out, so I know if I should avoid it.

Adventures was ok at first, but I thought it got kind of boring after awhile. It was pretty, but I don't think it is a must play or anything. There are much better action/adventure/platformers you could spend your time with.

I having mixed feelings. I haven't bought this game yet, but did play the demo a few times and thought it was pretty good for a cheap game. Does the game go downhill after the first level?

I didn't like Assault too much. It was fun, but it was too short, way too short.

Adventures had much more meat, and was far more interesting (and fun). It wasn't a Starfox game though, and that's probably the biggest disappointment.

Assuming the demo you played was all Arwing combat, I'd say...maybe. Things change radically after that. I like it, but that puts me in the minority, and even I'll admit that it would be better if it were entirely aerial.

It was a joint development , Nintendo screwed up just as much as Namco. I remember EGM reporting on the games troubled development for quite some time, people on both teams were walking off and quitting for various reasons. I just find it really hard to believe Namco were the ones that screwed up considering Ace Combat has only gotten better after each game.

just remake the 64 versionwith upped graphics and thatll make up for some of the crap star fox games have given us. Give us a n64 quality one and all will be forgiven ^^
