Star Ocean 4 coming to the PS3 in 2010 (02/04/10 in Japan).
Just out of curiosity what was wrong with it?
Basically you have to switch disc to go back to previous areas.
This and that other Tales game are going to piss off a lot of Japanese gamers who bought 360's just to play JRPG exclusives. Isn't there already a petition to Namco for the upcoming port that was exclusive to 360?
new sony campaign aimed at these people needed perhaps? CRY MOAR. All Your JRPG ARE BELONG TO US. Then it zooms into Ken Kuturagi in PS Home, doing the robot, then popping, then zooms out to the slim, 299, IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING (INCLUDING STEALING MS EXCLUSIVES).

me thinks this would be a big hit.

I thought Krazy Ken was dosed up to the eyeballs on lithium and locked away in his soundproof padded cell. They don't need that flake back in charge or anywhere near the PS3 anymore.

He was a blight on the company and luckily they took him off of the task of being the talking head for Sony Computer Entertainment and put him behind a desk and shushed him.

Mind you, I'm liking the new ad campaign, especially the 'internet geek' one with the Sony rep walking by all of the $299.99 marked stuff. That shit had me ROFL when I first saw it.

Oh shit. It's TMK. Whatever happen to ToV coming to the PS3, any more news on that? I know this game was reviewed poorly but I'll still get it since the PS3 lacks jrpgs.

It's out in Japan this week. As for a US release, I haven't heard anything.

Hmmm, They are giving us the option to change audio tracks? I might have to pick this up then.

What reviews did you read? ToV generally got decent-good reviews. And there hasn't been any news on the PS3 version...except for that Japanese petition and rumors of the 360 version funding the PS3 version.

Well, unless they horribly screw up the PS3 version, it won't have to contend with disc swapping madness like the 360 version had.

But, it's still a ridiculous Platinum trophy (assuming they're the same as the Achievements, which they most certainly will)

I really don't think MS was ever too concerned with keeping this game exclusive.. But it looks like it might be worth a shot once the price comes down, maybe below $15-20.
Now they just need to confirm ToV for an NA release.
ToV Voice Actors were called back in by namco in the US. Pretty sure its to voice the new scenes from the extra content. Looking good for US release.

It could also just be for that Tales Vs PSP game. A quick shows alot of them have done voice work for multiple Tales games. Whatever it is I'm sure we'll know by TGS.

great to see this game coming to the US. Might not be the most popular in the series but the PS3 needs some JPRG's here in the states.

Or it could be for both! Who knows. Looking forward to hearing more from TGS tho. The leaked list of street fighter 4 Dash characters already has me super psyched! Dudley + Tony Hawk FTW!

This game is pretty terrible (I own it, worst Star ocean in the series) Im sure MS gave this one away without a fight lol, I enjoyed SO: Till the End of Time ALOT

See, I thought TTEOT was pretty crap, as did a very many others. I absolutely adored this game though. I'm glad that people without a 360 are getting a chance to have a go at it, as I thought it was a great game.

Man I hated Star Ocean 3 :p

Star Ocean 4 was slightly disappointing to me, but I'll probably end up finishing it when this comes out for the PS3 so I don't have to disc swap.

The only way I can see that being true is if SO3 was the only RPG you ever played... It has to be one of the worst RPG's in the PS2 library.

This is correct. It's a total crapfest through and through. Crap characters, crap story, crap battle system, crap loading times, crap glitches, crap dungeons, crap towns, crap, crap, crap.

What is the deal with games like Star Ocean 3 and Final Fantasy XII getting awesome reviews, then being widely hated by gamers? Is there something about JRPGs that makes them appeal to reviewers but not to the average player? Of course every game has fans and detractors, but you don't see this kind of pile-on for, I don't know, Gears of War.

fuck I pile on gears of SHIT all the time. That game is crap compared to Epic's past works. And the divine irony is that it's also the most popular despite the fact that it has so many fucking flaws, especially with the online.

Star Ocean 3 would be a okay game on its own, but it is just an inferior game to SO2 (or SO1 for that matter)
Star Ocean is a crappy series as a whole, 4 just continues the trend
Star Ocean 1 and 2 were both pretty good, especially 2.

Blame Playstation 2.

Not sure what you're smokin, Gears of War is one of the best gaming series out right now.
The only way I can see that being true is if SO3 was the only RPG you ever played... It's not the only JRPG I've ever played since I've played 250+ of them before. The only PS2 RPGs I felt that were better than Star Ocean 3 were Xenosaga Episode I & III, FFX, and Kingdom Hearts II.
Star Ocean 3 would be a okay game on its own, but it is just an inferior game to SO2 (or SO1 for that matter)
I felt it was slightly better than Star Ocean 2, much better than Star Ocean 1.

I enjoyed the last Star Ocean that was released on the PS2. I was playing it and enjoying it, but then I got tired of it. And I didn't like the alchemy/invention sessions where you had to make things, that was too complicated for me, plus I couldn't get good at it.

not adding new info

but the only thing bad about SO3 was the story, the battles system was great, if you knew how to use it, the invention system great, if you knew how to use it. Yeah alot of the futuristic game was spent on a medieval planet, but i quite enjoyed it.

I must reiterate, the story was horrid but the game play made up for it, also the song rust color. I can't speak for SO4 though. Just like SO3 I'm not buying it until bargain prices start to show.

Overall i hated it first play through, then replayed it and foudn it charming, great difficulty, just something fun. unlike most i play games unbiased. I loved FFX-2 while its easily one of THE most hated games, only because it wasn't rehash of FFX.
I don't think this has been posted yet, but this is now available for preorder on Amazon. With a release date of Feb. 9, 2010. [link]
Awesome,
btw - it's good to know they have both languages for the dialogue.

I thought they'd be able to fix their voice acting in SO4, but it seems worse from what I've heard/watched

1 month before FF 13... I dunno.

So is this game pretty much like Tales but bigger? Which is a better series, Tales or Star Ocean?

I really like the Tales series, but nothing on the PS3 yet (for N. America). Thinking about picking this up.

I will likely wait on this until after FF13. Unless, of course, it has an extremely limited print run or something.

Still haven't seen any info on a new guide... I'm assuming there will be one, though.

I want to play this, but I'm just hesitant to because of how quickly the 360 counterpart dropped. Hell, there was a Lightning Deal (I think twice actually) on Amazon where you could get the game for $25, and it's barely been out a year.

How does it compare to the previous SOs? I enjoyed the first two, and thought the third wasn't bad. I had been pressuring my younger brother to buy it for his 360 so I could play it whenever I went to visit him (this was before it was announced for PS3) but he never did, so I guess it's up to me to get it sometime.

It's very similar to SO3 aesthetically and gameplay-wise, but has one of the worst casts of characters in JRPG history. I challenge you to like any of them.

I don't dislike any of the characters yet, but the Japanese voice acting may be helping there.

And it is a lot like SO3 which I liked. Probably why I like this one.

Probably, though I don't think anything can redeem Sarah or Meracle.
