If anyone is watching Star Wars a New hope today from the dvd release, could you check to see the following problems?

Bad sounding voice change when luke asks about his agreement to uncle owen about leaving

Bad sounding voice change when Han talks to Jabba, but it may be the original source material.

Wierd motions when luke closes his saber...like a jerky motion, not artifact related.

**A between scenes right after Tarkin say's "terminate her" to vader" this scene is right before the falcon gets trapped in the tractor beam. I checked this multiple times on my dvd and it always does it. And on several dvd players and i dont see any defects on the disc.

Thanks!

That's puberty for you...

I knew this would happen, I am going to wait to see all the problems. and maybe return it. Thanks for the heads up. (Theenternal)

Im going to return in anyways as I am going by TRU where I bought it on my way to work.

the voice changes sound similar to where you are watching a movie and a guy says "We need to take this mother (Friend)" out where Friend= the part where they overdub the voice. I have a pretty expensive surround sound set up with a digital project to a dedicated theater room. So I was hoping some things were cleaned up.

The appearances of Jabba and the other CGI creatures look much better than they did in the SE starwars.

The package is prettynice on the outside, and altough the inner package does not look as good as other box sets. "They used clamshells" for each disc seperately. I perfer it that way as its more durable.

As far as the Tarkin scene...im thinking that maybe the release was a little rushed and it may not be my disc. Which would let us buy another edition sometime in the future

I remember the jerkey motions, but I dont remember bad sounding voices. I may have to watch it again. :)
Anyone else notice that when Luke was first fighting the drone on the Falcon his lightsaber looked greenish, and after he turned it off and then back on it was blue again? Has it always been this way, or have I missed it because I had the Fullscreen VHS (Widescreen Star Wars is so sweet).

I know that gamefaqs isn't a reliable sight, but someone on the star wars board stated that their was a recall on the dvds, as their is problems with ESB and having directors commentary..

I did notice the green glow of Luke's saber also. Also in ANH did anyone notice a faint box around the TIE's?
That's from a video, or something.. I see it all over the net
I've never seen before and I can't....stop...looking....at it....

I just noticed my first major inconsistency and have no idea if it was in the original version.

When the Owens by the defective R2 Unit.. it blows up about 30 feet away from the crawler. They cut to Lars talking about getting R2D2 instead... and sitting right next to him being polished by jawas again is the red R2 that at the moment is 30 feet away and smoking. They cut to look brushing away the smoke and then to R2D2 as he starts to roll towards Luke, next to him is that spider on wheels looking one.

Oops.

One of my friends sent it to me. I loved it and took it as my avatar. If I remember right, it might be from a Conan Star Wars thing, but I'm not sure.

Yes, I did notice this in some of the shots of the TIEs in the battle w/ the Falcon. Only strange thing that I noticed, though.

well if there is a problem with the DVD I'm sure IGN will report about it by the end of the week. Lucas won't let us have crappy dvds, he knows not to piss off the fans even more then he has already.

I assume you mean when Vader raises his hand after the terminate order is given, yeah I noticed it to, besides that nothing major.

This is an editing mistake that was in the original movie and all subsequent re-releases.

Ya know, with all the re-edits Lucas has done, you'd think he could fix little inconsistancies like this and get rid of all the mattes around the spaceships too. Jesus, George, if you're going to do it, fucking do it right.

Well I Just got done watching ESB, and i guess this is turning into a half review, half problem report.

The bleeding through of things with transparencies that you could see the walkers through the snowspeeders..even in the SE are gone...are at least reduced enough that I couldnt see it when looking for it.

Overall ESB looked really good imo, very clean and the film shines.

I did not exp any audio problems with the disc, however I did have another bad spot.

When the Falcon is in the astroid, before leia is scared by the myknok thingies...it has a reoccuring pause.

Ill watch Jedi tomorrow before I exchange my copy for a new one... and will report any problems to see if anyone else is getting them.

He will, for the big conglomo-ultimate-director's cut-mega-tribute-box set they'll inevitably announce in a few years.

My brother said that you're all crazy.. or maybe have bad copies of the disc. Here were his responses to reports, and I'd take his word for it - he's a star wars freak.

Okay, people are going nuts

1) I didn't notice anything w/Luke's voice beyond the normal adolescent
voice changes

2) Han has always sounded the same in the conversation

3) The way it looks when he closes his saber has always been like that, due
to the way sfx worked at the time and the way it appeared.

4) Didn't notice it, but they didn't correct Luke/Anakin's lightsaber, just
Obi-Wan's

5) Commentary is on the 4th disc, I believe. Haven't watched ESB, but I
will either tonight or tomorrow morning.

6) No skipping, sounds like he had a bad disc.

7) Faint box around TIEs in ANH, and ESB (as well as the Asteroids) was
always there, that was due to them being inserted in the original movie.
The boxes were digitally removed in the special editions, but not all of
them were gone. I didn't notice them in this version, it's possible that
guy has his brightness/contrast out of wack.

Watched ROTJ last night, and had a few minor complaints .. in the very end they cut the Ewoks "yum yum" song, and replaced it with dramatic music for celebration .. I didn't see the SE so maybe that was there already.

Also, I dug the edit they did with the ghost thing at the end, with Anakin, Yoda, and Obi-Wan. My friends said that wasn't in the SE, but only the DVD. Is that right?

I quickly watched RotJ and when Han is going to shoot the scarlac to save lando I thought the line went:

"wait I thought you were blind!"
"Don't worry, trust me..."

now on my dvds it says
"wait I thought you were blind!"
"Don't worry, I can see alot better"

They changed it right ? Or am I nuts ? Does anyone have a link to some site that lists EVERY change, no matter how minor from the original non-SE versions ? I'm not bitching about it, I just want to see what has been changed.

I think the "terminiate her" problem is where the DVD does the layer change? This is common in all DVDs that are dual-layer, the movie pauses for a second of two while the DVD laser repositions.

If memory serves me correctly, the scene consists of:

"Wait, I thought you were blind!"
"Don't worry, I can see a lot better. Trust me."

There were a couple of things I noticed while watching A New Hope last night that I haven't read anything about:

1) When OB1 first appears and does he "krayt dragon" call to scare off the sandpeople -- the sound is MUCH different from what I remember.

2) During the OB1/Vader lightsaber fight there are electrical flashes of yellow when the sabers touch - I've never noticed this.

Changing Anakin's ghost was IMO the worst change on the entire set. And yes, it is only on the DVD's, because it's intended to flow "better" with the prequels. The SE's came out before the prequels, so thus there was no change there. I'm fairly sure that the celebration music is also unique to the DVD, but I may be wrong.

My set is arriving today from amazon, so I'm looking forward to watching the movies through and make my final assessments. :?

Yep, nuts I say....I watched EP.IV last night. I did notice the slight lightsaber "problem", but it's not a problem at all..was normal technology for the time.

Also, there still was a box or halo around the Tie-Fighters in the end scene. Had to pay really close attention though. My TV is calibrated pretty good too. GREAT DVD's!!!! Much better than the VHS copy I own.

Although, I am watching on a 55" Widescreen and 6.1 surround system

The boxes were around the tie's in the original version of the movie. I thought they removed them in the SE edition. I guess they will be selling a Star Wars SE DVD boxed set next!

This is all nothing compared how foul it was when they removed that awesome song in Jabba's palace in Jedi for the special edition. That new CG thing is pure garbage!

I noticed the karyt dragon call in ANH being changed. Dramatic difference in that one. I alos noticed the flashes of light whenever the lightsabers crossed .. but that was only in ANH as far as I noticed. Still haven't gotten to ESB yet.

And I would have thought Lucas would have removed the Storm Trooper who smacks his head on the door, but it seems like they actually enhanced the sound of him hitting it. If you never saw it, this is in ANH when C3PO and R2D2 are discovered hiding on the Death Star. The guy on the right smacks his head on the door when he goes in the room.

I remember somebody talking about it as if that was a bad Clone. They have to be going down hill in quality fast, especially when none of them buggers can shoot...

In Episode 2 during the Jango and OB1 rain-fight sequence, when Jango enters his ship he bumps his head on the door. This was put in on purpose in honor of the Stormtrooper blooper in ANH. Lucas mentions this in the Episode 2 commentary.
im happy with my vhs tapes, old school, no special editions or anything. the only way to watch star wars.
You should get the Laserdisks. They last a lot longer then VHS copies will.

My disks came in the mail today.

ANH had a reoccuring hiccup in the opening crawl. Not a good way to start ! I didn't notice any other glitches, though.

The wierd thing was that I had to re-adjust all the settings on my TV. Lower the contrast by 50%, lower the color by 50%, lower the tint to major blue shift. without this everything is WAY too color saturated and red shifted and looks stupid. I think they went a little overboard with the 'enhancements'.

Color saturation is a neat trick used in photography to make things look more 'real', or appealing. Frankly I think it's a dirty trick in this case.

I thought it sounded different, but I hadn't heard about it being changed anywhere, so I thought I must have just remembered it wrong, but I guess not.

I noticed that for the very first time last nite (trooper hitting his head). Couldn't believe I've missed that one a 1000 times.

Well it looks like there are some audio problems with ANH
