For those looking forward to possibly the classic Star Wars RTS everyone has waited for, the demo is being released in just a few hours! After keeping careful tabs on the game for the past few months it looks very promising with the former members of Westwood (creators of Command and Conquer) producing it.

Enjoy!

Just started a download at a whopping 16 Kbytes/s. I'll be done by tomorrow if I'm lucky. My bet is that my download will crap out midway through.

Guess I'll be eagerly awaiting a torrent.

As predicted, my download crapped out. It made it through a whopping 2 megs. I'm trying it again, but I'm not holding my breath.

Some people on other boards say that the server is currently down.

DANG IT! Why can't they distribute it via a Bit Torrent?!

Played the first two tutorials. Like it so far, a bit concerned that only a limited number of ground buildings are allowed though. Also, looks like defensive structures can only be built on pre-determined locations/nodes like the LOTR RTS.

Do they have a space level in the demo? That's what I really want to try, and I want to know if it's worth my time downloading the demo at work or school.

Yep - I just finished the demo and the tutorial includes a quick space battle. There is also a really short galactic campaign that includes a space battle on a slightly larger scale. Certainly nothing to satisfy your appetite but definitely enough to make you hungry for more. :)

I would love to just be able to download the thing.

Edit - Just saw that list of download spots. Hitting the torrent now. Thanks a ton!
What kind of specs are needed to run the demo
As an RTS, probably not much. They're one of the most least-demanding genre of games.

Here are the minimum specs:

Computer: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible computer
CPU: Intel Pentium III 1.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz
Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP
Ram: 256MB
Graphics Card: 32 MB graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L) capability
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible, PCI or Onboard Audio Device
Internet: 56kbps or faster connection (required for multiplayer only)

Although if you want to play the game and have it look good, you'll need more. How much? Not quite sure myself. :whistle2:?

Now I really want to try it, but I see that the demo is more then 700 MB and my flashdrive is only 512 MB.
Now I have to hope the next PC Gamer disk has it, or I need to get a wireless card for my laptop and download it at school.

I may have to get this game to tide me over until Kingdom Hearts 2 and Twilight Princess, since I've always wanted to a good Star Wars RTS. I hope the reviews start coming in soon.
