CAGiversary!
Special Announcement: Episode III Title
July 24, 2004

starwars.com is pleased to announce that Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith is the full title of the next Star Wars film, scheduled for release on May 19, 2005.

The Sith are masters of the dark side of the Force and the sworn enemies of the Jedi. They were all but exterminated by the Jedi a thousand years ago, but the evil order continued in secrecy. They operated quietly, behind the scenes, acting in pairs - a Master and an Apprentice - patiently biding their time before they could take over the galaxy. In Episode III, they'll finally exact their revenge on the Jedi.

The title was publicly revealed today in a special presentation to a packed audience of Star Wars fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego, California. "For some time now, the naming of a new Star Wars movie has taken on some special meaning among core fans, who love to take part in guessing games before a title is announced, and then engage in debate once it is," said Steve Sansweet, Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm. "Let the debates begin."

The title wasn't the only surprise for those in attendance at the presentation. Click here for news about even more Star Wars DVDs in 2004 and 2005, surprise celebrity guests, new planets in Episode III, and more...

At the end of the Star Wars Spectacular presentation, Steve Sansweet revealed he was wearing a special T-shirt bearing the Episode III title, with a style reminiscent of the 1982 Fan Club Revenge of the Jedi logo and shirts available for a limited time before the final Return of the Jedi title was revealed. "If you're interested in one, stop by the shop at the Star Wars pavilion, where they're going on sale just about now."

If you're not at the show, don't worry... you can order your own retro Revenge of the Sith shirt now available exclusively here at StarWarsShop.com.

About Episode III

After three long years of relentless fighting, the Clone Wars are nearly at an end. The Jedi Council dispatches Obi-Wan Kenobi to bring General Grievous, the deadly leader of the Separatist droid army, to justice. Meanwhile, back on Coruscant, Chancellor Palpatine has grown in power. His sweeping political changes transform the war-weary Republic into the mighty Galactic Empire. To his closest ally, Anakin Skywalker, he reveals the true nature of power and the promised secrets of the Force in an attempt to lure him to the dark side.

I coulda sworn the title was previously named "Rise of the Empire," which would have sounded a lot better.

Anyhoo, being the optimist that I am, I'm sure episode 3 will somehow manage to suck worse than episodes 1 and 2, somehow further defiling the Star Wars name. Hey, Lucas! It's not aout the special effects, stupid! It's about the characters and the story! I don't care if there isn't any fancy Jedi moves in the movie so long as I actually have a REASON to care about the characters.

People who think Episode 1 and 2 were complete garbage are taking things too seriously. Then again, I can't blame them. It's hard to overcome the feeling of someone screwing with your childhood. But still, the movies are much more entertaining if you relax a bit. I mean come on, the Darth Maul fight scene in Ep. 1 and the Yoda fight scene in Ep. II were fucking awesome.

I was a big Star Wars fan until I saw Phantom Menace. That movie killed my Star Wars fixation. Lucas knows how to handle the action scenes pretty well but the drama between A. Skywalker and the Princess makes me roll my eyes.

Your completely right about the Childhood thing; I used to have fond memories of watching the original trilogy. Not too long ago, I saw Chronicles of Riddick and they (the filmmakers) were trying to create a mythology based story set in a Sci-Fi Universe. After watching Riddick, I cant help and realize how well written the original Trillogy was. Chronicles of Riddicks just plain blows by comparision..

Even if you don't like the prequels too much and Episode 3 does end up sucking, you have to admit it's going to be sad to watch the credits roll at the end of the movie. Knowing it's the last Star Wars movie ever (there's no way Lucas will let Spielberg do another trilogy) is kinda sad. The original three movies are some of the greatest, and have defined a generation and the geek culture.
I cant wait for this, i mean episode I&II sucked compared to the orginals
I agree with that, but I still enjoyed them.

Also after watching the dramatic scenes in 1 and 2 I think I'm sterile, because afterwards my little soldiers went AWOL. (there's two ways you can take that, one is that I enjoyed it to much and the other is that I disliked them so much that it lowered my sperm count, I mean the later by it.) This only regards the dramatic scenes though everything else about the movies entertained my nuts off.

Can't disagree with you there. Still a person being hot in a love scene only matters when there's sex involved and unless crying on each others shoulders is considered sex, I didn't see any.

Mildly amusing story: I was at the Con and passed up the panel. It got out around 2 pm. Around 1:50 or so I was walking by the LucasFilm booths and saw the shirt. No crowd whatsoever obviously since everyone was at the panel. I asked the guy at the register if that was what it was gonna be called and he gave this knowing shrug. Long story short, I coulda bought the shirt right then. Once the panel let out, I saw a rush of SW peeps running toward the booths and from what I heard later, they were running to buy the shirts and there was a line for them for the next hour or so.

The first one was only pretty good IMO on a standard basis in movies. The second one was just ruined for me by all of the corny ass lines that they spewed out in the pathetic love story they tried to squeeze in, like "I die a little each day". Hopefully this one won't fuck up too badly and at least be comparable or on the same level as the older ones.

This is serious subject matter, the slaughter of an entire people. I just hope Lucas doesn't fuck it up like he did the battle of AoTC by doing something similar to the C-3PO "sorry I am shooting you" bit.

Doesnt matter to me can be good or not, i just think of them as different movies. Im just going to sit back and watch ep 4-6 on HD w/ surround sound on september 21st!

Honestly, it was like some bad Lifetime original script.
shaq-fu episode 3..... 4,5 and 6 come out on special edition DVD soon!
Well...episodes v4.1, v5.1, and v6.1, we're still only getting the tinkered with original trilogy which has a few questionable changes IMHO. It's a shame we'll probably never see the original cuts on a digital format (other than lasecdisc) until Lucas is either broke or dead.

would it not be 4.2, 5.2 and 6.2?

I know he was going back and changing some of the tweaks he made for the re-released versions, such as Han shooting first

Lol you mean an "official" release of the original cuts on a digital format.

(cause you can probably find one that isn't an official one, but you would have to deal with some seedy mfs.

Yes, guess thats true, guess it would be more like version .2, or since he's rolling back some of his most hated changes, it would be more like v4.09, v5.09, and v6.09 :p

Yes, I mean an official release, the best bootleg releases are based off the laserdiscs and won't come close to the video and audio quality of an official release. Just a shame he couldn't take a cue from his buddy spielberg and give both version like ET.

I have my fingers crossed that Lucas will decide to include the orginals with the DVD box set(even if there is no commentary Ill be happy).
However, ill bet that he will release them as part of a super Star Wars box set a few years after episode 3 is released on DVD.
And I have my fingers crossed that episode 3 will be better then 1 and 2.
