Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void

My Day 1 at Blizzcon consisted of
Arrive at 10 AM
1) play SC2
2) watch SC progamers
3) eat lunch
4) play more SC2
Leave at 9:40 PM

I'm leaving for Day 2 in about an hour, I expect even more SC2 play time today
Starcraft II will ship "before Diablo II for sure."

also my Day 2 summary:
watch SC progamers
play SC2
lunch
watch SC progamers
play more SC2
dinner
play more SC2
stand in Diablo III line
convention closes before I can play any D3
You mean a piece of what is Starcraft 2 will ship before Diablo 3.

Wow I went from a day 1 purchase to a hmmmm. Why'd they split SCII up?! Buy the separate games and get a special exclusive multiplayer feature, ggaaaayyyyy. I'm all up for lots of epic story but that is just a sure wway to piss off gamers.
So how about Firebats?
you mean Hellions? They make early zealots against Terran the worst unit choice ever ;)
you mean Hellions? They make early zealots against Terran the worst unit choice ever ;)
Ok, but do I have to build some 5-6 buildings before I get them?

Stupid firebats.

I think you can get them straight out of the factory, iirc. I only played Terran like once or twice haha (I focused my time on Zerg and Protoss)

In the build we played, the Marine + Marauder combo and eventually Medivac dropships was pretty much unstoppable

Carriers were uber-imba (less expensive than SC1, has 4 intercepters already when it pops out, and there's no upgrade you have to buy to be able to hold 8 interceptors)

Also I should note that each blue mineral chunk mined is worth 5 minerals. Not sure about yellow minerals. And the new gas recharging mechanic was more annoying than anything.

Haha, ya, I hope that gets changed.

I didn't know either, and this is what I turned up:

How the New Vespene Gas Mechanic Works For StarCraft II, with the new Vespene Gas mechanic, players will have 2 gas geysers at their starting position. These geysers will start with X amount of gas (currently 600 and subject to balance) and at any time players can purchase additional gas in their geysers for X minerals (currently 100 and subject to balance). With each purchase of additional gas for your geyser, the geyser increases with X gas (currently 600 and subject to balance) and the geyser shuts down for 45 seconds. When a geyser is depleted, workers will still be able to gather gas at a low rate of 2 per round (subject to balance).

How the New Vespene Gas Mechanic Plays With this new gas mechanic, players have a wider variety of strategies in developing and maintaining their refineries, as well as additional attention needed to make sure they are collecting gas at the most efficient rate. On the production side, players now also have to decide between sticking to Tier 1 units longer, or to play it balanced with one geyser, or even max out on gas to invest heavily on teching and higher tech units. Additional, the relationship between minerals and gas have an added layer of depth since investing in additional gas will actually cost the player minerals as well. How often a player invests in gas will also not necessarily be consistent through the game too and will depend upon what units that player is currently choosing to mass. Scouting too has an added layer of depth as well, as a players gas collecting play style may determine if the player is teching to a higher tier mineral heavy unit (like a Dark Templar) or a higher tech gas heavy unit (like a High Templar).

Long story short - gas runs out quickly, you have to purchase more to cause a downtime for it to recharge.

the new gas mechanic is basically the assimilator/extractor/refinery will go offline (ie. can't mine anything from it) after a certain amount of gas has been mined from it. It will then come back online after a certain amount of time. This process will repeat until the vespene geyser is finally depleted. In the build we played, I don't believe there was any part where you have to pay minerals (I remember reading about the one you posted, Strell, so it has definitely since been changed).

Strange. Wonder why they'd make you manage gas any more than you used to. Just seems like it'd slow down gameplay a little, which, if sc2 plays at a comparable speed to sc to begin with, doesn't really need to happen.

Well it's limiting how many uber units you can pump out, if high tech units and buildings need gas than allowing the player a limited gas amount at times balances out the game and players have to use more strategy with the units they do have.

well, the fact that each base has two vespene geysers make up for the gas you won't be able to mine from a geyser for the time it's offline. The only reason they have this mechanic is to up the skill and amount of actions required to macro efficiently (since multiple-building select and autogathering for workers really bring down the skill needed to macro). I kinda wish they'd just take out MBS so they won't have to do these retarded gas mechanics and whatnot

Ah. Back from Thanksgiving and back to real internet.

So, Darren: Can Colossi walk up cliffs again? What spells do Nullifiers and HT have? How's the Archon?

pretty sure Colossus can walk up and down cliffs. Archon is still pretty good versus zerg. Seems to have a longer range of attack. Didn't use nullifiers or HT often so I don't know much about them (I do know that psi storm lasts for a short time and has a smaller radius, but does good amount of damage. So it sucks versus a fast moving army)
Yay for the Colossus. So I assume it can take hits from anti-air, then?
not sure, haha. I didn't really go all that deep when I played. Time was limited, so I didn't want to die to a rush and have the game be real short. I also needed to win 3 straight games to get a poster (it ended up being a WoW: Lich King poster, wtf!)
Would've killed for a poster of the Immortal artwork...
I've never really had an interest in going to BlizzCon, but god I'd want some of that merchandise they sell.

although the ticket cost $100, I was able to sell my WoW mount and goody bag for a net $200 profit. So it was like I was being paid to play SC2, hang with SC progamers and participate in the SC2 beta :D

free Guitar Hero World Tour here we come

...

If a mysterious stranger jumps out from behind the bushes and breaks your legs with a lead pipe exactly 2.5 minutes after you leave work tomorrow, can I have your life?

it was my first time seeing the dark templar, so I'm not sure what you have seen previously

dark templars require another building after templar archives, that totally screwed up my dt rush one time haha

Bulky armour and double-bladed scythes. I'll bring up a picture in a minute.

Their art-work looks pretty cool - chitinous armour and all - but still not Dark Templar-ish in the least.

EDIT:

Model

Well, that's the look DTs had ever since the initial game announcement. It hasn't changed since then, but yeah, it's definitely not what Dark Templars should look like. Heck, Zeratul still has the same outfit he had in the first game, so why do the others DTs suddenly look like walking tanks?

Yeah, I only ask if they had a new model at Blizzcon because I recall Karune mentioning that their model was getting changed a while back. I'd find the thread, but that forum's a fucking disaster area.

EDIT: I think, like the Infestor, they thought they were on to something with the artwork but the unit that they originally invisioned it as didn't work, so the Dark Templar got stuck with it.

I figured I would give this thread a bump because I was thinking about it.

So has there been any estimated release dates for Wings of Liberty? I am really hoping that because they decided to separate up the game, that it will be released this year.

Kayden, may your witch doctor become infested by the Zerg.

I'll get around to fixing up a new, nice-looking OP some time within the next couple of days. Got too much of a headache right now. Bad need drugs and sleep tiem nao.

Yea, they said they'd be doing a beta soon, updates rss feeds, nope. >< I would guess if any time they'd release it this holiday season.

This is probably a moon shot, but Amazon is allowing Starcraft 2 pre-orders.

Every year I've pre-ordered stuff on Amazon it usually gets released in 6 months, otherwise there is no pre-order option.

So SC2 might come out this year? I predict October which is off from 6 months, but whatever.

I was gonna grab Halo Wars eventually, but if SC2 comes out this year forget it. SC > Every RTS released in history so far.

What is this nonsense that led this thread to being bumped back to the third page....

Anyways, even though I am skeptical about this being some sort of April Fools day prank there appears to be application for the beta! http://starcraft.org/ (it is also posted on 3 other sites)

So if you are willing to risk the possibility this is a prank then enter. For me the risk is worth it!

EDIT: It is also Starcraft's birthday so "Happy Birthday" Starcraft!

...

I doubt that beta applications would be sent to a gmail account.

On a side note, Darren - guess which Starcraft-playing panda recently showed his face on CAG?

As I said I am skeptical, but I don't have much to lose by sending in a quick email. Plus the four sites doing this are fan sites that claim that Blizzard is giving them a few keys to give away and not Blizzard themselves so the gmail account might be legit. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Raymond? Ah CAG SC tournament... those were the days...

I already registered my beta key so right now I'm just waiting for the beta announcement
