state ID necessary to trade games at GS?

Just wondering...I went in to trade some stuff in and since I've lost my license (misplaced it) they completely denied me. I showed them about 10 cards with my name and address, including credit, debit and a school ID with my picture and these clerks wouldn't budge.

on a side note it was a couple of nerdy high school kids working and they totally got nervous and treated me as if I were a criminal. so I played it up and kept asking them shady questions (in monotone: how much credit do you give for Barbie Horse Adventures...I have 2 copies I want to trade.) and made a lot of sudden movements when I was looking around. they looked like they'd been violated by the time I left, which was really strange.

State issued IDs are required for cash trade ins. If anything were to come up, then they could use the ID number to track the person down. I haven't been to a store that requires ID on all trades. That is very odd.

interesting, my GS only requires a valid state ID for cash trades. no ID is needed for store credit. they'll even let us accept trades from kids as long as they have a school ID or know there birthdate (you'd be surprised sometimes), which i think is kinda wrong.

It can very depending on city/town (they call them pawn shop laws). In my town we require the I.D. for trade in credit and on cash, but we can sell the product to the next customer. But in another town they require that but have to hold systems for like a week. And in another city they have to hold games and systems for 2 weeks. So it can very from state and city.
you should have started spazzing out and then yelled O OOOOO O OUENDAN!

it was an ouendan moment.

Maybe it was my duct taped vest and scraggly 8 day beard that made them think I stole the games or something...

My EB actually stopped doing this. I have no clue why though.
I was about to get out my state ID and they said I didn't need it.
They just asked me where I lived, birthdate, etc.
It actually suprised me, and I do like the new rule.

It's the law to require State I.D. to trade in for cash. Did you want cash? Please make it clear, unless you want us to think you are leaving other information out in order for you to look like more of a victim.

i wanted credit and i'm just asking a question...did it really sound like i was fishing for sympathy? who trades games for cash at GS? credit is a rip as it is (though I buckle when I know I won't get more than $5 for a game on ebay)

It really depends on the store. We allow school IDs at my store as long as it's some kind of photo ID. At the store I used to work at, state IDs were required for all trade ins (think it had something to do with the laws in that county or city or whatever).

I'm 21 and I dont have a State ID. Because I'm lazy. But I can even use a military ID and they dont say anything.
