Regarding inXile, I thought Wastelands 2 turned out okay once after several patches and basically what ended up being the Director's cut. Their iteration of Torment was mixed and their current release, Bard's Tale 4 has mixed reviews with comments that lead me to believe that the game did not have enough polish. If anyone watch the videos for the kickstarters, Brian Fargo mocked the current state of the industry. Thus, I find it a little humorous that they sold out. I actually am hoping for a good Wastelands 3.
Obsidian, at least for me, puts out better polished games than InXile.
My guess is Microsoft is acquiring studios, in part, to combat the library of exclusives that Sony has. From my perspective, Sony won the console round with PS2, lost with PS3 due to Microsoft having better hardware and Microsoft having better relations with publishers i.e. exclusives, but Sony won again with PS4 despite Microsoft having the more capable/stronger spec hardware XBOX X vs Pro.
I played through Wasteland 2 on release. Sure, patches always help, but it was fine from the start, a perfectly serviceable sequel to the original. Wasteland 3 was kickstarted a while ago, so I'd certainly be surprised if it didn't come to pass; they've been working diligently on it for a few years. As for Microsoft, they've come out and said that they're looking for more sources of exclusives, and this is clearly part of that effort. Adding some unique RPGs to their stable would be a refreshing change of pace from the same old shooters. Certainly it's a genre where they've fallen behind Sony. I don't think Microsoft will ever catch up in that regard, but they could obviously do better than they have been--I mean, what did they have for the last few years, Gears of War and Halo?

It did not help that Pillars had a season pass and that the DLCs were not well received, especially compared to White March. Larian did a great job and made Divinity 2 better than the prior game and did not dabble with a season pass. Having said that, both games should be played if you are a fan of the genre.
Hm. I'm not sure what you mean by that. Pillars 1 also had a season pass. I've only played a little of 2 so far, but it seems like a substantial improvement over the first game.

Regarding my comment with Pillars and Season Pass; compared to buy Divinity 2 ($45) which does not have a season pass is more appealing to people weighing buying one or the other from a price point of view (Pillars 2 w/Season Pass=$75).  I agree that both studios made their sequels with respected improvements.  However, there are plenty of reviews that are not happy with Pillars 2 DLC, which may change once Forgotten Sanctum DLC is released.  Again, both are improvements over the previous releases and could and should be enjoyed.  I have to agree with Nothing371 that a lot of players generally take a break after an epic CRPG which also may factor in the sales.

This is definitely true for me. I decided to take a breather after seeing how the sequel handled imported saves, and it's a fairly interesting spin on the scenario. Without dropping much in the way of spoilers, the game kills you in the introduction.

Here, nerds. Neverwinter Humble Pack:

Welp. I did my part and bought 3.

But yeah that's a very telling statistic. There is only so much room in the world for new release CRPGs. People play like one, and then take a break. Plus you've got Divinity 2 stealing the limelight with better review scores as the definitive game that everyone is going to buy first.
Its not just that but all of the competition this year in CRPG's. Its a haven for fans after a long drought but we have POE2, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Bards Tale, & Divinity2. Two of those within a week or two of each other.

From the article:

"Yeah, I thought as much when I backed! The question is not why Obsidian failed that so much as why they thought that was a likely target.

It's possible they *didn't* think it was likely, and structured things such that they'd never have to pay back Fig investors (or Fig itself!)"

I'm not sure if it was mentioned, but I just noticed Fanatical has the Broken Sword 1, 2, and 3 as their daily deal for $1.

For a few more hours at least.

I'll be honest.  PoE was slow.  I play it because I like slow.  PoE2 was meh.  I just don't get the whole pirate thing and the story didn't progress fast enough to interest me.  D1+2 I bought but didn't get into because of the cartoon-y detail.  I like the controls better, but also don't enjoy where I control multiple characters.  The character selection was also goofy.  I felt like I had to read through piles of materials to decide on character choices.

Agreed, the first one was fantastic, played tons of it. However, the change to 3D really turns me off from the second, not going to bite for a while.
As long as the item stacking stays the same (or very similar), I'm pumped.

Have they put out any boss footage yet?

Gross on Risk of Rain 3D. I would have preferred a slightly less pixellated 2D version. It could be alright though, but I also enjoyed the first quite a bit.

No more free games for madjoki.

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-11-13-valve-rewards-man-usd20-000-for-discovering-unlimited-free-game-codes-bug

Valve has rewarded a man with $20,000 after he discovered a bug which let people generate thousands of free codes at once for any game.

The flaw was rooted out by security researcher Artem Moskowsky who reported it to Valve on August 7.

Valve fixed the issue weeks ago and it has since been made public via HackerOne.

By changing a single parameter, any person with a developer account on the portal could generate thousands of activation keys simultaneously for any other game hosted by Steam.

Speaking with The Register, Moskowsky says he found the bug by chance while exploring the functionality of a web application.

Another humble bundle that I'm only interested in one BTA game and the "Beat The (Now $2 More Thanks To Including A $2 Credit*) Arbitrary Price" game.

*offer only valid if you give us money every month

Nah...you're gonna get us >observer_ for wayyy cheaper than that. Beat the average ain't bad for $4.09 though.
What price are y'all feeling? We've actually got a special promo cooking up for >observer_ in the near future, so I'm all ears :)

FWIW, just read that the RX 590 (launching November 15th) will include codes to redeem the following games for free:

The Division 2

Devil May Cry 5

Resident Evil 2

Card will supposedly cost ~20% more than the 580 for ~10% more performance, but that's as good a haul as you're ever likely to get from a GPU purchase.

Dunno if the extra 12% POWAH is worth the price... especially assuming 580's will get steeper discounts on Black Friday to push out the inventory with a new model coming in.

Is this gonna be 8GB of VRAM (like the 580)? Or did they increase the VRAM count?

In news that nobody cares about, I've been going through my wishlist and trimming the fat. I was up to something like 2,200 games which is utterly ridiculous. I'm about 1/3 of the way through (going by date added, oldest first) and have removed nearly 300 titles. Right now I'm in the range of games added in early to mid 2017, which is when I was fairly liberal about what I wishlisted. My removal rate has increased, so I could very well end up removing over 1,000 games when all's said and done.

I don't really do group buys for IG anymore (damn PayPal fee changes) and Tremor won't let me link my Steam account to redeem anything. So, in the last 6-7 months I've been much stricter with what I add to the wishlist. I still feel that exhausting your discovery queue every day and adding what interests you is the best way to navigate Steam sales, especially when used in conjunction with SteamDB.

One other thing I do now is put the URLs for new games that might look okay in a spreadsheet, so I'll revisit them later on and see if the game is any good. Often times a game looked decent so I added it to the wishlist. Months later reviews come in and that game is actually a buggy, unfinished piece of crap (oh hey, another first-person horror survival game made in Unity!). Most of the 300 games removed thus far are just that.

Having a huge wishlist isn't so much about the +1 as it is just not having to wade through the Steam store and also make bundle buying decisions easier. That will still be the case but it feels good to get rid of some of the dead weight.

No wish list? That's what I call livin' on the edge.

This evening's progress - reviewed 120 games, removed 77 from wish list

I was going to buy RE2 deluxe at full price whenever voidu or whatever did another 30% off coupon again until I read your post. GJ capcom. Best GPU game promo I've ever seen. Now to find someone that plans on buying a RX590 to activate them for us

I agree with the first part, but if Observer was MysterD's $1 or my 3 M:LL's, I certainly wouldn't bitch about it.
That's a hard bargain you're driving there. That being said, the $1.00 price point for a different title might be possible. Would just depend on the estimated volume of interest.

Assuming I've been living under a rock for the past several years, what's all this about ebay codes?
AMD puts out codes with their cards that have a bundle of games, i.e. the last one they did was strange bridge, star control origins, and asscreed odyssey. You can usually find them on ebay for cheap though, only catch is you need to have a proper amd card to activate them into your amd rewards account, so you need someone you can trust to login to your account and redeem a code for you

Random to hide it in the Steam directory or random that the drama used the Steam directory?

Anyway you reminded me of something.  Many years ago a female friend who was not very computer savvy was having computer problems, she couldn't get a program to install due to lack of space and said she never put anything on there so why did she have no space?  I looked into it for her and within a few minutes found her little brother's porn stash several fake folders deep in the Program Files folder and was taking up about 90% of her HD space.  Doubt he was thrilled next time he wanted to see some boobies and found all of his porn gone and a "ceiling cat is watching you masturbate" picture in the folder instead.

From what I'm reading doesn't the person who wants the games/buys the codes have to have an AMD card/account themselves?

You buy the code from ebay, make an AMD account, give the account info to the friend that has the RX590 and they activate the code for you on your account.

The problem is finding someone that has a RX590..

By many years I assume you mean 15+.

So it detects your hardware or something when you make the account/activate the code?

Yes. It will detect what video card is installed via the drivers when logged into your amd account. If I remember right, for the rx 570 I bought a few weeks ago it gave me steam codes for Origins and Strange Brigade that I entered in myself but I had to link my uplay account for Ass Creed: Odyssey. There is even a 24 waiting period when you sign up unless you let them send you a confirmation code to your cell phone. Which didn't work for me. I had to email them and complain, got it unlocked earlier than 24 hours surprisingly.

Game publishers/devs and/or the card makers really don't like the grey market anymore.

Friendly reminder and self-promotion.

Our pub sale on Steam ends tomorrow. Highlights include:
Observer @ 50% off
KOTOR 1 & 2 @ $3.49 a piece
Borderlands 2 4-Pack @ 75% (and most of the DLC on sale too)
Civilization VI @ 67% off
Mafia 3 @ 67% off
Any chance you can ask your bosses to update the Android version of Jade Empire? I realize this is the Steam deals thread, but nobody reads the Android deals thread.
