So that's 64 games and I have 34 left in the queue. I would also say I love the uptick of fungus based games, such that Funguys Swarm and Shroom and Gloom definitely rank, as well. Gonna be a fun week. Wonder how much overlap there will be stuff I've already played?

Any thoughts on Planet of Lana or Wavetale? Both cheap on Fanatical.

It seems Wavetale may be buggy, don't know why it has good Steam reviews. It's also stuck at 1080p apparently.

Wavetale was under a dollar on humble back in April (price mistake). I think it also generated 2 keys for some people (double mistake). Planet of Lana was free on Amazon (GOG key)

Thanks for pointing out the free Planet of Lana (I should have it there). I will just play it on GOG. I want to see if I should be excited for the newly announced sequel. I wishlisted the cool looking Steam games from the Xbox presentation.

Y'all should try Dead at Disco. You want Beat Hazard/AudioSurf, but with a Batman combat brawler instead?

Just get some shonen anime or fighting game soundtracks and go to town. I spent nearly two hours trying out different music I have on my HDD and just laying waste to dudes.

It's like getting to the last episode in a shonen anime and its the final big turn and the theme song drops mid-battle. But like, every time you play.

I dunno, it has me pretty hyped, but it's totally YMMV based on your music interests. Already poised to be in my Top 5 this week!

AudioSurf

That was the game I created a Steam account for, 17 years ago.

I rather enjoyed Beat Hazard back in the day. I continually eyeball 2 and 3 to grab when they go on sale, but I find it unlikely I'll invest the time in them, given how many games I already don't play, but I'll keep an eye on Dead at Disco, thanks for the heads up!

Some stuff I've been playing - STALKER Trilogy EE and Nobody Wants To Die.

Impressions/Reviews of sorts.
STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy - Enhanced Editions -> PC via GOG:
They're all....fine. Nice to have 64-bit EXE and Global Illumination (if you want to turn G.I.) on too, so that's the best part here. Runs fine on my RTX 3060m laptop & also my 3070 desktop at 1080p all maxed-out. Every now and then, a hitch - not often, so not that much of a big deal. Biggest issue for some here might be censorship, since they removed some Russian Voice-overs, monuments, signs, papers, etc. Hopefully they fix that in patches officially or for modders. Nice to have gamepad support though, as I do like sometimes just roaming w/ gamepad in any games when nada's happening and then quickly switch to gamepad (or vice versa, when switching from combat to just roaming). Would be nice to see more mods come to these new editions. I've got two done of these EE versions already (Shadow of Chornobyl EE and Clear Sky EE); already at work on Call of Prypiat EE. SoC EE took me almost 17 1/2 hours and Clear Sky EE took me about 20 hours. Having a blast; still got more to go with CoP EE, as I'm almost 8 1/2 hours into that.

Nobody Wants To Die - PC via Steam:
Finished it last night, after 12h or so. Often, players take like 7-10h, so....take it how you want with me taking my time, having to figure out a few puzzles took some time to get right, checkpoints causing me to redo sections, or whatever. Really enjoyed this game. You're a cop in this Blade Runner-like and Altered Carbon-like dystopian of a cyberpunk-y settings & world, trying to solve some murders. All kinds of weird twists and turns, as you have to recreate murder scenes, solves murders (using murder-board and figure out who is doing this how & why), and more. Story and character stuff is really good. Graphics look great on UE5 (Unreal Engine 5) here on Epic settings at 1080p, provided you can actually run it. Had to lock it to 45fps with MSI Afterburner, just to keep it running right to keep the bouncing b/t often 40 and 60fps from happening; 45fps was a nice happy medium. Really enjoyed this game, to say the least.

I didn't know demos could have achievements. The demo for Mini Cozy Room: Lo-Fi has five. I should have played this demo earlier, pretty cool but the sale just ended.

Yeah, I just noticed this with another game called "No, I'm Not A Human". The original demo was in a compilation game called Violent Horror Stories: Anthology, but they recently put a newer standalone demo on Steam with more content. And it's apparently got 26 achievements.

Demo achievements are actually kind of smart

The devs can use them to measure engagement, what players interact with, and what they don't.

You'll get achievement chasers, sure, but the overall percentages should tell you good data on how people enjoy your demo (or at least finish it!).

I dug through the pre-event demo queue and the takeaway is that AI slop is still there, but no substantial yet. Lots of solitaire based games. Maybe I've already chewed through bigger ones, but there wasn't a lot of head turners for me off the top of my head.

Will have to see more when I'm at my PC proper and not on the Steam app.

Edit: I turned off the adult filter for something awhile back and left it off just because the stuff coming out is sometimes the dumbest garbage. There's straight up a game called BOOBS and it's exactly what it says on the tin. There so many ridiculously long light novel titles ...

Also, I guess China really doesn't care about IP rights.

Edit 2: You bet your left CTRL key I'm going to review The Count of Monte Clicker.

Edit 3: I think this is the first time I gave up getting to the bottom of the demo list. There's way too much slop now. "Service Job" simulators, VS clones, AI VNs, etc.

Many games appear to be attempting to take three different popular games, throwing them in a blender, and hoping the outcome is "the next thing." Or perhaps that it looks close enough to one of the three games that people accidentally buy it.

The roiling mass of garbage Steam sits upon makes me feel sad for actual indie devs out there trying. More so since there's probably a massive pool of them since all the layoffs over the year or so.

The same thing happened to me. Usually I have a list of around 30-40 demos to try but I gave up after 15 or so. After the 5th futa runner, the 15th vampire survivors and/or deckbuilder game and the 40th AI/simulator garbage I got out of there. At least most of what I got should be interesting, like Morsels...

I installed a few demos that piqued my interest. Hopefully they'll be decent.

Frosthaven
Funguys Swarm
Hell Clock
Nightmare Frontier
Undermine 2
Hell Clock is great. Indie Diablo 2/3.

Nightmare Frontier is on my list, looks good!

I probably have 70+ demos now, sigh. I'm a sucker for the more Brotato style clones... If I can just stop playing each one for two hours, I might survive this week.

Undermine 2 is also almost exactly like Undermine 1. If you like that, you'll likely like the sequel. There is a mass amount of slop and I'm still trying to get to the bottom of the demo list, but there is some very low effort stuff where I'm at. I'm likely going to end up around 80 demos myself. There is a high chance 30 or so will end up being played for 5 minutes or less, but we'll see. There are way too many Vampire Survivors clones and AI 18+ games. I can tell the AI artwork easily now.

Edit: I made it to the end of the list. Time to install about 40 games right now. The Steam servers are very slow right now so I recommend queing up a good amount.

I actually hit 100. Got through many in 10 minutes or less. Winnie's Hole ended up filling most of my evening, though. Dunno if it's Top 5 worthy, but it's certainly novel.

Most of my evening was taken up by Absolum. It's a buggy and a lil unpolished beat em up similar to the D&D arcade games. The fighting is really, really fun with hard bosses. I hadn't played a beat em up as fun in a while (last was Streets of Rage 4 probably).

Been running that Mini Cozy Room: Lo-Fi demo for a bit over 24 hrs trying to get the last achievement. It's for reaching level 100, I'm only on level 59. Each subsequent level takes longer to earn. At least I don't have to do anything. I think I'll buy this game next time there's a sale. There is not a lot to it, but it looks nice and is pretty cheap. I like the ambient rain noise option, and some of the songs. I like customizing the room.
