This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

I typically get about 15 mb/s on Steam, so yes, it goes pretty quick for me, but I had to restart Steam 4 or 5 times to keep the DL up, took me over an hour to DL it as the speeds kept plummeting down to 100-200kpbs. I didnt mention it in my post because obviously theres others that wont get it as quickly, but it was pissing me off.

Holy crap. My dl speeds usually peak at around 3 mb/s, occasionally getting up to 4 if the planets align and i give my pc a bj

Im surprised or Im just spoiled. Im on Verizon FIOS. Whats even crazier is my upload is faster than my DL. The old shitty cable company I used to use (Cablevision or Optimum I guess they're called now) were more in your range. FIOS is about the only thing positive about Verizon I can think of.

- 60 FPS, everything set to very high, R9 270X. Its "port" impression is exactly like Ground Zeroes so far. A great sign. Still not into the game world (30 minutes in, still Prologue lol). Download is just over 22 GB.

Impressive so far. Still early, but impressive.

I tried it very briefly. Like you really haven't gotten to the actual 'game' still, the stuff is all in engine. Looks nice, runs well. I didn't play Ground Zeroes but I swear just about every other Japanese port lately has been a hot ass mess (Falcom stuff like Ys and TITS not withstanding since they were always PC to begin with).

I might have tried it longer but while PP and MM both launched at exactly the same moment, Max let me pre-load and Metal Gear didn't so Max first it was.

I ran around in that game for a while until I got Max a sidekick (two if you count the dog) a skeleton car and a body for the car.

Now I'm tired and heading to bed.

So far I'm happy with the SolidNakedSnakeyFakeyNivida/ShadyEbayBroing of both games.

Yea, Im same boat. I havent activated my Mad Max key yet, but I am going to do it soon. I didnt want to get too deep into MGS now being I have to crash. Just wanted to make sure it worked and get a small taste. I get off early tomorrow, so will be jamming then.

Ha, Optimum is what I have now actually. Although the main problem is that my gaming PC is ridiculously far away from the router so I get even worse speeds than I should. Download is peaking at 800kb/s and that's only because everybody else in the house is asleep and thus not using the network. I'd move my PC and just hook it up directly to the router, but again...it's 2:30 AM.

Still that is crazy fast in comparison. There has been some talk in my household of switching to FIOS, now I'm definitely going to push harder for it.

Optimum sucks. Plus I hate the idea of giving James Dolan any money.

I am hooked directly into my router, but I get good speeds wirelessly on my laptop too. I live right across the river from the city, so it may also be because of where I am. 95% faster than the rest of the country acc to that so my speeds are an anomaly, but yea FIOS >> Optimum.

That's good for AMD.

But, AMD needs more than one dev vouching for them. :p

Some rhetorical and unanswered questions.

When the hell are there going to be a good deal of DX12-supported games out there on the market to help AMD get a better position in GPU market? Will every PC gamer who hasn't moved yet to Win 10 finally do so b/c of DX12 advantages when a good deal of DX12 games show up? Will AMD ever lose the reputation people have had with thinking that they've always had not-so-great drivers?

Also, will NVidia still have some kind of advantage w/ all of their GameWorks Stuff? And b/c a lot of games often wind-up being labeled + branded for NVidia "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" campaign - will that still pose a threat to NVidia? Or will things change w/ that, too?

Also, like Intel - NVidia's always somehow found a way to keep the market b/c of their reputation and the position they were in, no matter what. I remember back when AMD popped out 64-bit processors before anyone else, pretty much. Didn't matter - Microsoft was too busy not thinking about x64 back then; Win XP x64 didn't really catch on; and Intel put out their processor x64 processor way later when Microsoft began focus on x64 stuff w/ Vista. Intel still found a way to keep the lead in their market.

Regardless - going to be very interesting to see how things turn out b/t AMD v. NVidia, as always...

Well, I'm kind of surprised given some of the Mad Max reviews, Eurogamer didn't blast it. Given how GameSpot + Polygon blasted it, usually Eurogamer seems much more harsher on games than others often are, IMHO.

So much for that guess! :)

Played about as much Mad Max at Motoki did -- ran the tutorial missions to beat some dudes up, shoot some other dude, eat some dog food, steal some gas, drive my proto-death-dune-buggy over the blasted wastes and stole a car body.  Speaking of, people on the Steam forums for the game are going ape irate over the Ripper body not being one of the initial choices. 

It seems like it'll be fun but I won't really know until the game takes the leash off and lets me tear into the landscape.  Rating it right now would be like rating Far Cry 4 based on the initial bit where you're crawling around, avoiding guards and being told to Hit E to Climb Rock rather than the parts where you're crashing into an enemy camp, riding an elephant and shooting rocket launchers.

It defaulted to "High" settings on my i7-860 @ 3.6GHz, 12GB, R9 290X 4GB and runs a smooth 60fps (Vsync on).  Haven't tried it with Vsync off to see what real frame rates I can get but the world looks sweet.

Yeah, speaking of, I played it M+KB last night but I'm wondering if this isn't a game to be played with a controller.

I'm outside of DC, but we just switched from Cox to FiOS and there is a great difference. We have the 50up/50down plan and Steam downloads five times faster than with Cox (same setup - router distance, comp. location, etc.). I have to say it was worth the switch. And not to mention its like $60+ cheaper/month.

It's still early though (less than two weeks). We'll see if they keep it up.

 
Funniest thread I read so far today was people complaining that all the cars are right-hand drive. Oh joy.

Looking forward to playing it tonight. It not sucking massively is a pleasant bonus. I don't want GOTY material, I just want to drive around a wasteland and shoot shit up.

Does Steam just hate Mad Max?  None of my screenshots show in my feed and the game doesn't appear under my recently played titles.

Maybe I never really played it.  Maybe I'm an illusion like Arthur/Artur... :whistle2:k

 
I think that happens when the game is not 'officially' released in all localities or something like that. Give it until later today and it should show up. Unless some countries are lagging behind and not getting it on the first.

Oh and yeah the first time I hopped into the buggy I went 'He's getting in the wrong side! Oh nm Australia'.

Well, you never know (about key-map configurations). I remember when W2 wouldn't allow you to configure any keys to the numpad - which they fixed in a patch, since a lot complained. Or in Hellgate: London strictly forces CHAT key to Enter key.

Or, in some games - some keys you can reconfigure, some you cannot. Dead Space 1 PC, you couldn't even put movements on Cursor keys. For lefties like myself and gamers from the 90's - meh, I usually use Cursors for movement.

JUMP on any Control key just seems weird to me. I usually have that on Space or Middle Mouse.

I usually put Reload on Right Control key.

My screenshots didn't pop up either. They're on my account though. Pretty sure it's because we all stole our keys from poor malnourished Blorzekistanis.

It actually has a real nice in-game screenshot editor which lets you move the camera around and instagram the fuck out of stuff.

Can't believe I'm asking this but I haven't tried the pony racing DLC yet. Anything special you need to do to level up or pick out a good horse to race or is it all just totally random?

I actually don't know. I doubt most of us have played it, I think I did read that you can use your horses from the SP in the MP though.

 
got my bioshock voucher already, getting "unable to add voucher" error in checkout

any ideas?

EDIT: i was logged in with my regular GMG account (tied to a hotmail.com email), and didn't realize that i had created a new GMG account during the voting/playfire linking. i used a gmail.com email to create the goldenstick awards account, so i just had to log into GMG with that account.
