Oh it doesn't even register as a blip on the radar of nonsense going on in Florida, I just thought it was a funny/bizarre story.

As a Floridian, this whole this is a bit out of proportion.  If this Virus is like the flu, which it seems to be, we're all going to end up catching it.  The whole "avoid the spike" thing isn't really completely accurate as the spike they're forecasting is Miami/Dade which means when after that they'll start "reopening" things and all the rest will have their own inevitable spikes (unless we find a cure).

So any business that can be open should stay open.  Make what money they can because this thing is crushing businesses across the nation.

The idea is to "slow the spread" so hospitals won't get overwhelmed. Eventually herd immunity, or a vaccine will happen (next year) and then we wait on the next virus.

Try watching and reading the actual news.

Interesting how Gears Tactics will release on the 28th of this month. Now, Firaxis has announced XCOM: Chimera Squad to release on the 24th. $10 on Steam going up to $20 once May hits. Some tweaks to the old XCOM formula, it looks like.

Ya'll act like I'm not in a hospital working on a daily basis... I too am front line.

I've just  hit the point where I'm resigned to just catching it and getting it over with.

XCom looks interesting but I think I've been scarred enough over the decades that I'm not sure I can team up with a Muton or a Thinman at this point.

Thank you for your tremendous opinion Ikeda, I'm now much more confident of holding onto Florida in November and will concentrate my campaign in other more intelligent states swing states. Tremendous.

As a nation of mice, I am so proud that we continue to vote for cats!

That X-Com game kinda came out of nowhere. I added it to my wishlist for no other reason than to be reminded to look at reviews after it launches. I am curious about it, especially with the 50% off price at launch.

I get that, I do, but there are some of us (like me) that if we catch it, there's high probability we're on a ventilator (if there's one available). My wife is pregnant, taking care of positive tested people, having to reuse already inadequate PPE. I worked at the NIH as a contractor for 15 years in patient isolation, critical risk assessment as well as in the animal facilities and her hospital (which is the county hospital) is grossly unprepared. And we have neighbors having "gatherings", people taking their whole family grocery shopping, and churches in full swing. You hear about the good will of people 3D printing PPE and shipments of supplies being sent to major populated areas, but I tell you, the less dense areas, this shit is not being treated with the attention it deserves. Many of the people around here are acting like it's a joke or believing the ludicrous conspiracies traveling Facebook. Having my wife cry after every shift because she's afraid to bring it home to me or the kids or pass it to out yet to be...it makes the lets just get it over with sentiment hard to swallow.

And in more appropriate news I've started playing Mass Effect 2 and 3 again with more gameplay related mods. Previously I just used ALOT and an ENB. Just finished 2 and am on 3 now as a Vanguard with Annihilation Field. Charge -> Boom

I just don't understand why almost a month into this pandemic affecting the U.S., we aren't seeing a massive production output of PPE.  Supposedly the Defense Production Act has been activated and I get that something like a ventilator takes time to manufacture, but masks and gowns?  These are just plastic and cloth.  By now millions upon millions of these things should be churning out of U.S. based businesses.  But then, I guess, maybe there really are that few U.S. based manufacturing plants left.

That's because it has been activated but not actually used. The feds have been concentrating on trying to intercept and confiscate shipments and not on actually forcing businesses to manufacture PPE which is what they should be doing.

N95 supposedly uses specific equipment. We can probably churn out cloth masks or the general population, but it's not like it's handled properly at the federal level in any way.

But I don't get why they're not producing equipment to allow N95 re-use in much greater quantities (specific UV lamps and 70C ovens).

I can't claim to know the inner workings of an N95 mask but I have a few of them leftover from my father who was a doctor.  They don't appear particularly complex.  Two layers of some kind of heavy duty cloth/paper like material, a metal bridge on the nose, and two elastic straps.  These are probably from half a dozen or so years ago at least but I doubt any major changes have been made in the design since then.  I agree that sterilization procedures should also be looked into and I've heard of one Ohio company that has done it.  Still... I keep seeing all the fuss being about "procuring" these masks from vendors (mostly outside the U.S.) when, if this is a "wartime" footing, we should be hiring people who are otherwise unemployed and start producing these things immediately.

It's also pretty telling when you see some European and Asian countries have these full white plastic hazmat suits where U.S. healthcare workers are using these crappy flimsy orange/brown smocks.

It's the air filter inside that's hard to produce, not the rest of it. Since it has to meet spec to qualify as N95. Else you're just making normal cloth masks.

Sure would've been nice if my home state didn't have 3 million masks stolen right out from underneath them.

Feds: The national stockpile is ours. Get your own.

States: Ok, we'll get our own.

Feds: Those are ours too.

I think the answer is no but is there any way to hide favorites from your Steam activity feed without making your Steam profile private?  I sometimes forget to do that when I am going through mods and it spams the heck out of the activity.

Please keep discussion focused on Steam deals.
@Trakan Feel free to selectively come in here... didn't say fuck for months when it was about stupid crap like Pizza and the like.

But that means we got a narc in here.

Let's go really old school and just start talking about Coconut Queen and Shoes again. Nevermind the fact that he deleted my commentary on the new X-Com game.

New XCom game is on sale for $9.20 on GMG right now if anyone wants to preorder it.

So, I haven't idled in some time. Is it true that all these 'free' games won't drop cards?
Yes.

Steam changed it... last year sometime(?). If you look, there's a disclaimer on the store page near the "Purchase" button, if you over your mouse over it, it'll say card drops are disabled.

I'm not sure about it, but I assume they prevent booster pack drops as well.

Are you looking to hide your activity so you don't spam other people's feeds? Because I spent a few minutes looking and didn't see anything that would help with that. Might be there somewhere but I didn't see it. You can go to Friend Activity > Friend Activity Settings > Uncheck "Favorites an item" but that only keeps it from showing up in your own feed, not someone else's.

Yeah I spent a while looking and I am pretty sure there isn't a way other than making my profile private every time. I'll just have to try and remember so I don't dump dozens of mods into people's feeds. heh

I'm going to keep doing about an hour or a bit more each day to trying out my Steam games. I am skipping visual novels, RPGMaker games and Hidden Object games for now. With those 3 categories gone from my Steam list that likely still leaves plenty of games to try. I will also just put junk games according to reviews in a category and not even try them. This is just for my own entertainment and will be spoilered. It may help you or at least entertain you a bit.

14 games for 04-15-2020

#killallzombies - It has pretty decent graphics, and is a relatively good top down shooter with lots of zombie hordes. Get perks on level up. Negatives are random drop downs on obstacles like ambulances cause most of my deaths. Overall the game is solid though clunky at times. 6/10

A Dream for Aaron – Horrible first unity FPS from someone. You’re supposed to get into worlds but I don’t think it’s finished and the shooting is basic and has basic graphics. Just shouldn’t be for sale. 2/10

Albedo Eyes From Space – Played for about 10 minutes. This seems like a first person adventure type game where you solve environmental puzzles. The graphics are okay but wow the interface sucks. It’s annoying to get things into and out of your inventory and the physics feels wonky. I got to the second room and a hose I assume was supposed to put out a fire freaked out and started going around like a snake. I couldn’t interact with it. Seems liked an okay but very buggy game. 4/10

Candy Thieves - Tale of Gnomes - Garbage. You take a jelly colored something and throw it into the machine of the color it matches to get a candy. Rinse and repeat. This has so-so graphics with repetitive music. Played like 3 minutes. 2/10

Close Me – You walk around a house and go to sleep and interact with things. You also close the game and when you open it things may be different. Mine stopped being different so I stopped. 7 minutes spent here on another bad game. 2/10

Death Point – Played for about an hour. A Metal Gear Solid (like PS1 style) stealth action game where you play some guy escaping from jail and have some person talk you through the missions. The gameplay is actually OK honestly. The sneaking around is not super in depth, but it worked most of the time. The main issue is you have to play like how they want you to play. At one point I’m forced to use my handgun instead of the sneaky kills I was getting. Also I feel through the floor to the lower floor and got stuck there on the third level I think. Honestly it had potential, but the dialogue wasn’t amazing and the gameplay could be a bit janky at times. I did like the graphics for the most part. Basic but gets the job done. The music was atmospheric and the voices aren’t bad for the mains at least. 6/10

Hooligan Vasja – Horrible hard to play and confusing game. There is only 3 controls of going up, down and shooting but I don’t even know how to change places on the pipe or anything. It looks and sound bad too. 2/10

Insane – Extremly janky puzzle game I guess. You get marbles in these slowly rotating things with 4 slots and if you get 4 of the same color they explode. Played for like 3 minutes. Way too janky with the controls and felt boring. 3/10

Shaolin vs Wu Tang – This was a fun fighting game. I liked the graphics and all the characters based off of people from kung fu movies like Bruce Lee and the eight diagram fighter. The moves are pretty simple to pull off and look fluid. The enemy AI is not super smart but not super stupid either (didn’t see where to change this right away). I did beat the game in about an hour and a half. The music is awesome and may be similar or possibly extremely inspired or copied from the movies. The sounds are pretty good and sound very choppy (like hand chops) and cool. Worth it if it’s bundled again. 7.5/10

Spin Rush – You spin a square around to catch either colors or color names and match the right part. You can turn into a hexagon too. There is some thumping music and it gets pretty hard. There is also a line that comes out that turns the blob into that color line. It’s simple but addicting. Music can be varied a bit, but honestly this was kind of fun for my 10 minutes of play. 6/10

Strike Squadron – Caracara – A pretty basic kind of Asteroids like space shooter. It has characters and missions and escort missions. It’s honestly not terrible and controlled alright. The story didn’t make much sense. Heart was put into this one, but it just wasn’t too exciting and I was pretty bored by the second escort mission. 5.5/10

Super Hipster Lumberjack - Okay graphics. Floaty controls. Basic gameplay consisting of trying to reach an exit without touching black areas. 5/10

Terraform – Now this one was a fun puzzle game. You pretty much have tools and can control weather to solve puzzles like getting trees to grow on spaces and water to fill out spots. It’s challenging at times and pretty fun. This was my hit of the day easily with so many other not so great games. Graphics are simple but nice and the music is OK but very repetitive. Well worth playing. 7.5/10

Tomb Towers - Played for 5 minutes. A basic platformer with floaty controls, old school graphics, where you try to get a key and open a door. The controls got me in the end, but it wasn't crazy fun as it was anyway. 4/10
