Simple. Because the gameplay on its own isn't gonna sell the game, there's more pressure to be creative to make money. Solid mechanics don't seem to sell games as much as they should, and when you're theoretically competing against AAAs who can drop tons of money on decent programmers, style is how indies make their mark.

It's a key scraper plugin for Desura. Basically it scans your Desura collection for all the keys, gives them a pretty little icon and the ones that are full color mean you haven't generated a key yet, grey means you already did.

I found about 10 Steam keys I didn't know I had. Most were bleh bundle stuff but I did have an extra Loren: The Amazon Princess (before anyone asks I gave it to Utopian Machine after Idiotekque 'bleh'ed at it).

Oh and if you get an error trying to generate a Steam key from the web version of the Desura collection just go into it through the client and it will probably work then.

I'm with you on this. I love baseball and nascar... but I find them hard to watch. If I'm immersed in the action it doesn't bother me, whether I'm playing softball or playing a video game... the commercials ruin it for me.

For anyone curious about Spintires, I've been playing it for a bit. It's not as easy as it looks. The physics in the game are awesome, but it seems to be a bit unforgiving even in casual mode. To get the most out of this game you really have to plan your routes and be patient. I've mostly just been trying to get the hang of the landscape and have already wrecked three vehicles.

As for realism, I think it captures the off-road experience well. The vehicles handle like they should and the game seems more simulator than anything, which means you have to prepared to grind. I'll post a better impression of the game once I play it more, but for now my impression is that you really have to know what you are doing and have to be prepared for some frustrating moments. The game seems a bit early access, as some vehicles seem a bit too light for realism, but it's worth the money imo. I've had some crashes for no reason at all, but it seems as if more patches are on the way. If you aren't into off-roading sims hardcore, I'd wait until it gets polished a bit.

 
I'm kicking myself because I skipped the last Indie Royale and subsequently ended up with Cognition Episodes 1 and 2 from other bundles.  Any Idea how/where I could get eps 3 and 4 for super cheap?  Steam doesn't seem to sell the individual episodes, and Amazon only has them DRM free for $10 each.

I actually like soccer, and have watched it on numerous occasions, but it's a sport that isn't fun to WATCH. Same goes for baseball, fun to play, but watching it is like watching paint dry. Baseball is so sterile and precise and just boring from a TV watcher's perspective.

That's the problem soccer has. It's 90% running around, running around, running around... then one team gets the ball close to the goal and you're like "SOMETHING'S GONNA HAPPEN!?", and then the other team boots it back into the middle of the field and the cycle repeats. For WAY too long.

Granted there are exciting moments, like in most sports, but they're few and far between and it's a drag waiting for them. Penalty kicks are amazing. Do I like watching soccer highlights on ESPN? Hell yeah.

I feel like this is what people who don't watch baseball and soccer say because it sounds logical, but there's nothing further from the truth.

The Mexico vs. Brazil 0-0 tie was one of the most exciting games to watch so far this Cup. Soccer hasn't been the "pass the ball around in the midfield" Simpson's parody in quite a long time as most teams are pretty aggressive on the attack, especially in the World Cup where you have to score and win games to get past Group play and to advance in the tournament.

Baseball's the same way, there's plenty of action to be had, whether it be a masterful pitcher, dangerous hitter, exciting baserunner, or amazing fielder.

Having played both, watching them is more exciting in the sense you get to see/enjoy all the action. It can be dreadfully boring to play soccer or baseball depending on the quality of your team. Mine tended to suck pretty badly.

Not... really? I watched both plenty of times, and am often around people who are into watching both. I know things can be exciting, like I mentioned, but I still feel like the majority of both games is just dull to watch. I used to play baseball a lot, and it was fun, but it didn't make watching it any funner.

It's just opinion, since others absolutely love watching both, but it's not the opinion of someone who "doesn't watch" them.

Didn't even bother since I assume I have most of the games anyways, but the big giveaway is appreciated.

Anything good? Random drops are a double-edged sword like that. It keeps some of the lurkers disinterested, but then you might end up with a game you already have instead of the one you'd want.

Seems someone on the GTA 4 Steam Forums has found some hint that it and EFLC are going to be moved onto Steamworks soon.

Hopefully if they do this they give the option of folding EFLC content into the main game so that I don't have to have 15 GBs of redundant data sitting on my harddrive.

Edit: Just realized he may be full of it. All the GTA games now have a stats tab. I doubt very highly they just suddenly decided to add achievements to the old games. Guess maybe a glitch or oversight.

Yeah I've never seen Nordic provide steam keys for non-steam purchases so that doesn't surprise me.. they seem quick to bundle their games now though, so no matter which way it goes I'm sure it'll be bundled.

But I do hope someone starts a shitstorm so I can get a BM1 steam key.

 
Well I called them out on it at least. They blatantly ignored me in the one stickied thread and replied to something else without acknowledging the whole key thing. They also ignored the thread someone started about it with several replies. And I told the Nordic rep I wasn't sad at all for Viva Media releasing 2 and 3 because they gave us keys. :p

I doubt they will care and like you said I'll probably just get it in a bundle soon enough anyway but like Idiotekque fussing with Groupees over $3 sometimes it's the principle.

For comic strip 1, Fox with his recent Groupees Dollar Days strip.  I know it was his second submission but it's too good and hits too close to home to not count.
 
For comic strip 2, zenii with his clever use of six Steam games in a comic strip that actually made sense.
 
For comic strip 3, ltrain23 and zenii had a similar theme but I'm picking ltrain23 since his came first.  This strip also hits close to home since there were times I missed sleep in anticipation for a price mistake :)
 
Everyone is a winner, but the REAL winners are Fox, zenii and ltrain23. You three can PM me during the Summer Sale to let me know which game you'd like (as long as it is $9.99 or less).  I should be able to get any dailies, but flash sales during the last couple days of June aren't guaranteed since I will be moving.... basically the earlier the better (while I still have easy access to a computer haha).

Thanks! I did that one because it just seemed so appropriate, didn't expect it to count for the contest, but happy it did :)

It's a key scraper plugin for Desura. Basically it scans your Desura collection for all the keys, gives them a pretty little icon and the ones that are full color mean you haven't generated a key yet, grey means you already did.

I found about 10 Steam keys I didn't know I had. Most were bleh bundle stuff but I did have an extra Loren: The Amazon Princess (before anyone asks I gave it to Utopian Machine after Idiotekque 'bleh'ed at it).

Oh and if you get an error trying to generate a Steam key from the web version of the Desura collection just go into it through the client and it will probably work then.

Thanks for the contest! I really liked reading everyone else's submissions. I hate moving, and helping people move, but I'll never turn someone down if I'm free that day, because I know how much it sucks. Good luck with yours, and I hope you won't be as absent as you think you will be.

Well, the problem for us is how should we verify who is legit owner of the game? Therefore we usually dont give out Steam keys to anyone. I mean if you already bought a copy of the game then you own it already and you are done - you knew that you purchased a non-Steam copy.

You can verify we own the game by us emailing you our receipt, which is exactly what Jason had us do when we got our Black Mirror 2 and 3 copies. It's not rocket science so please don't make excuses. It's totally doable.

As far as we bought it and we knew we were getting a non-Steam copy, well we really didn't have a choice at the time did we? As I am sure you are well aware since you don't want to give keys and clearly know they hold value to people, many people like to have their games collected in one place on Steam and find it a convenience.

If I have a choice I will buy a Steam version of a game vs non-Steam. In the case of the Black Mirror games in the past I didn't have a choice. Viva Media was gracious enough to recognize that some existing owners may want to have their copies on Steam and gave us one when we requested it by email with proof of purchase. Nordic clearly does not care and doesn't want to do the same. Let's call it like it is. It's not that you can't verify our purchases, it's that you don't want to do it.
