Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

I voted the Party-based one.  I was on the fence but ultimately decided I couldn't vote for Slender.

Skullgirls's discount also applies to the DLC.  That's nice of them!  Or a mistake!  Either way, bought.

I like both of the new votes, I could get one from either. Though, I'm definitely hoping the Party-Based RPG category wins this round.
I went with the Horror category, since Avadon 2 is guaranteed to get bundled, and I have Baldurs Gate 2 on GOG. Betrayer for 80% off seems more interesting.

I really hope Party-Based RPG wins, I really want the Baldur's Gate Enhanced editions at 75% off. I'm pretty sure the other choice is going to win though because it has Metro in it and that series is way more known to the general gaming public then anything in the other choice.

FF GMG glitch was still better ;)
The one where FFVII and FFVIII were sold together for $6? I might have gone in on that if I didn't sleep through it, but I really just want FFVIII. I have enough copies of FFVII, and unless there are some amazing mods on PC, it's gonna take at least 90% off for me to buy it just for Steamcount.

As it is, I'm just gonna wait for VIII to get to 75% off somewhere.

Remind me, was the glitch just VII and VIII?
Yes

Yeah, but you could've sold off FF7 for $3 like I did, which would convert some GMG credit to real money (if you had credit).

See, if party based rpgs win, the rest of the internet is going to be wondering who the idiots who voted for it were.   I feel like I am in the twilight zone.

Also, my mole informed me I missed a stupid argument while I was at the Mitch Fatel show.  I would just like to say Naked Snake Eyes was right and Mr. Ninja Squirrel was wrong.

That is all.

Well, I can say I guess I'm one of them.  I've been waiting for Baldur's Gate II to hit 75% since it appeared on the Steam Store, so I have my fingers crossed it wins the vote.

I wish I had known about this FF7 & FF8 glitch that ya'll are talking about, though.  It looks like I have more waiting to do for them to hit 75%...

Woo caught up!

Just want to point out that the little known gem: Skyrim is on sale. Not many people have heard of it, which is a shame. It is actually pretty fun if you mod it right.

You guys should buy Betrayer if it hit $4
I've been looking at Betrayer for a little while now since it graduated from Early Access. If this hits ~$4 I might be hard pressed not to spend some card money. Is the main selling point that it's a very atmospheric/mysterious game with a slight Dark Souls loot losing upon death element?

Found a link where a guy explains how to make State of Derpcay look about a hundred times better than the default settings.
I'ma bookmark that shit.

Maybe I'll start this game tomorrow, as Ni No Kuni has been incredibly repetitive and Watch Dogs is still broken.

Uhhhhhhhhh, Groupees a year ago? Yes. Groupees now? No.

I admire your optimism, though.
With BM13 they delivered really good games. I would definitely see Betrayer taking Miasmata's place in the next Be Mine. However, this time I would wait for Dollar Days until last 3mins of the bundle.

That's a very good description. My main draw really is the art style and atmosphere. It is a very mysterious thing and to me the black and white and red was a very cool concept. They have colorized it since due to complaints, but you have the option to choose either.

I've never played DS so I can't say how it compares to that, but it's a very interesting game.

I do also agree that a bundle is likely. It's an indie game and the dev has been willing to discount it. 80% off less than a year after release is pretty generous so there probably isn't any harm in waiting.

Top tip:

Don't but while having your morning cup of tea. You might end up paying for a 40% off Early Access game like Craft The World.

This happened to a friend of mine this very morning.

They did, but the best of the bunch was a fairly old game (The Longest Journey), and the other notables were Miasmata (which was bundle material from the get-go I think) and Nekro (which is the kind of early access thing you'd expect in a Groupees bundle).

Don't get me wrong, I can see Betrayer getting bundled, but my faith in Groupees being the one to do it is quite low. I'd be less surprised if Gala pulled it off.

(And if I'm wrong, you're welcome everyone!)

Final Fantasy III DID get a discount, though it's only 33%. Still, better than the 0% from before.

Not good enough for me, though.
Every time I see somebody say "Final Fantasy III" I get excited and say "omg, finally!". Then I remember it's some game I've never seen and not the beloved version I know from my youth that's actually FF6 in Japan.

The FF MMOs are still subscription based, right?

Yeah, but you get 30 days when you buy it.

Enough time to get bored of it.
As a long time player of XI and beater of XIV, they are really night and day mmo's. I can't be impartial when it comes to XI when i say i love it more then XIV.

XI is is 10 year old RPG and some if not most of it's mechanics are dated, but have options that most mmo's then and now still don't have. XIV is way more streamlined and modern with warping to points, queue's for parties and raids, very solo friendly. Keep in mind 10 years does not mean stagnation, they made massive overhauls which i could go into paragraphs about. I still feel that when i do play XI, every moment is an adventure.

I wish i could of got a solid group together to play XI for a month or two and beat the game. I doubt this is the forum for that sort of thing.

I think XI always had the better community, even though it had its consoles vs pc vs more consoles, racism and purists that crunched numbers. There were always those amazing moments where you got people to come together during the thick of all this and do something completely unexpected.

Co-operate

When you have people that could barely speak to due to different languages, in a thrown together party and make it work. Grind for levels, complete missions or explore new areas. It was a thing of beauty.

My fate is similar to most MMO players, everyone i once knew is gone. If i could go back with what i know now i probably could of kept my friends together.

Sure i liked XIV, but i think there are very few moments in peoples lives where they really put things close to their hearts.

Too Long? Too Freaking bad, but since im a nice person. Its just a guy reminiscing about a simpler time and debating whether or not to pick up state of decay,

Wait, what?

Epic - Fantasy won with 57% of the vote? The exact same percentage as the last winning Community Group vote?

First four teams are (essentially) tied in the Summer Sale team battle, now this? What's goin' on, Valve?
I'm sure if you add all the numbers together in clever ways you will discover that Half Life 3 doesn't and will never exist.

For anyone who got Skullgirls, make sure you pick up the Big Band DLC. New characters are free at first but they switch to paid after 3 months.

Absolution worth it? (3.99 or 4.99 version?)

I have it on PS+ for free but never touched it; would rather play on PC
Ab-solutely.

Just...don't expect the previous Hitman games.

Hitman: Absolution tries to be WAY more than previous games in a long-running franchise. Sounds familiar? Yeah, Square Enix and Eidos been doing this a lot w/ their games - i.e. see TR 2013 + Thief 2014.

Absolution is a much longer game, first off - at least 2x's to 3x's as long as the other Hitman games (depends on how you play). Don't expect exotic global locations - most of this takes place in the good old USA. Though, you'll go through many different and interesting parts of the USA. And IMHO, this story in Absolution is one of the best and most personal found in a Hitman game.

And also, it combines some elements found in other games - i.e. you have those open-style Hitman type of missions (like in previous games - huge environments, kill selected targets how you see fit, then find a way out of the level); you have some of the old-school Splinter Cell-like linear missions (follow the route and do whatever the objective is); you have some missions that are just go stealthy and get the hell out of the area; and some are straight up action sequences of "run and get out the area!"

Depending on difficulty you select, there is a Focus meter. By doing things (kill enemies, knock 'em out, hide bodies, etc etc) - you build it up. Some things are enabled or disabled, depending on which difficulty you select. So, if you don't go above the default - you can do the Batman: Arkham series X-ray thing - and see through walls; see the path enemies are walking; and stuff like that. Side note - Thief 2014 does this kind of thing, as well. Back to Hitman: Ab - if you go higher-up in difficulty - this stuff might take more energy; might show less information (you might see through walls, but you might not see a line showing the path they'll walk); or go even higher-up and all of this stuff's disabled entirely.

Side note - I personally think Thief 2014 does a better job w/ Difficulty modes...as besides the preset difficulty modes they give you, you also have a Custom Mode and you have way more control of what stuff you can turn on and off, in difficulty; and you do get scored for this stuff.

Back to Hitman: Ab - everything in Hitman: Ab scores you points or loses points. Make a kill, how you kill an enemy, hide a body, get seen, do an objective a "special" way, or whatever. Play online - and you're playing on a scoreboard Vs. Your Country and also Vs. The World. I tried not to worry about things like this on playthrough 1 - I try to enjoy the game and play it any way I see fit. On replays of the entire game or replays of just a level - I might give a damn and force myself to be ultra-stealthy. Doesn't always work for me, you know - hehe.

Also, if you get close-up and try to get into fight or an enemy gets into a mini-fight w/ you - it basically turns into a QTE.

While I don't think Absolution is as great as Hitman 2: SA + Hitman: Blood Money - Absolution is still really good, none-the-less. Especially at THAT price; it's a bloody steal at that price.

Dammit, Bethesda (and Valve.) I didn't want it to come to this, but you left me no choice.
Got it for 5 dota keys, one of which I traded some bundle games for - total out of pocket was $7.20 Steam wallet. Shout out to my homies from the bloc.

I did as well, so I just bought them this morning. My price point for those games were 5 bucks, so I can't complain bout 4 bucks.
Given that FF7 was $3 before on a UPlay sale - I think that's what I'm looking at here for each FF HD/Re-Release game on Steam (FF7+FF8+FF3).

Especially since I own the old FF5,6,7,8,9 on my old PSX.

And I also own FF1 on NES.

EDIT:

I hope they release all of them FF's on the PC that never came here...and future FF games, too.

So, I'm basically talking FF2,4,5,6,10-1,10-2,12, and that FF13 Lightning trilogy.

Wolfenstein PC (Steamworks) is apparently $40 on sale at Fry's. Free shipping too if you don't have one near.

I know it's a total crap FAKECAG deal but there are some seasonals here and quite frankly I'm not convinced it will even get to that point on the Steam sale, especially now that 15% off has become a thing.
I'm certainly gonna wait - too expensive for a CAG like me.

These PC games at Retail getting so big (30-50 GB in size) - I wonder how many DVD's they'll come on. Geez.

And if these DVD's are dual-layered or what.

I really wish PC games from Retail would come on a BR-disc or some format that holds a bigger space, these days.

It'd give me another good reason to want to adopt a BR-drive for my PC.

Some of these games - like Titanfall, Wolfenstein TNO - they're just freaking huge.
