Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

Are there any good FPS roguelike games on sale?
Only FPS roguelikes I can think of at all would be Tower of Guns, Eldritch, Heavy Bullets, Rogue Shooter, and Paranautical Activity. Maybe Receiver too.

Steam's tagging system actually makes it pretty easy to find this sort of thing. Just search "rogue-like shooter" or "rogue-like fps".

Playing Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and saw this. Too bad my steam overlay is not working in that game.

Annnnnnd....now I'm getting this game for this reason alone.

Anyone think Final Fantasy III will go cheaper during this sale, or should this be it?  I'm biting on VIII, but really don't want to pay THAT much for III....  I may bite on it anyhow just because I want to get rid of my DS copy which I don't play anymore, but I wanted an opinion.

Not sure.

FF3 (Steam) is a recent release to the PC.

33% off seems like a typical discount for that kind of recent release.

33% off is not a spectacular discount, if you ask me.

So, given all of that - I'm not sure if it will or will not go any lower...who knows.

This is the cheapest FF3 Steam has been, so far - according to ITAD.

Depends really on if you plan to play ASAP.

If you don't plan to play ASAP it, I'd suggest waiting for a better sale.

If you're planning to backlog it and you'll get to it "who knows when" - I'd suggest doing what many of us CAG's do and wait for 75% off (lowest MSRP) or better.

They only shortly released the PC version so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while for the price to go down further.

Just play 8 and maybe by the time you're done 3 will be cheaper. It's Square Enix so they go on sale a lot. FF is their cash cow but I don't think they'll get too many sales on a PC port of an iOS port of a DS remake of a NES game without frequent discounts and probably an MSRP drop somewhere.

Oh, yeah - Square Enix prices aggressive, normally.

VERY Good point.

Even more so worth waiting on FF3 Steam then...

Found a link where a guy explains how to make State of Derpcay look about a hundred times better than the default settings.
I don't get why you're so obsessed with this. Don't Codex people think the 80s and 90s were the golden age of gaming and everything in the last 15 years sucks? You should be used to games that look like shit.

Skullgirls's discount also applies to the DLC. That's nice of them! Or a mistake! Either way, bought.
It's not a mistake. They're just not douchey devs. See Van Helsing and Space Hulk. See also Bethesda and Electronic Arts

Maybe I'll start this game tomorrow, as Ni No Kuni has been incredibly repetitive and Watch Dogs is still broken.
This is where I put on my little used console peasant hat and say Amen. I really wanted to love Ni No Kuni but Christ that is some grindy repetitive shit and I'm not 12 anymore so the constant Pikachu I choose YOU over and over just doesn't do it for me.

Top tip:

Don't but while having your morning cup of tea. You might end up paying for a 40% off Early Access game like Craft The World.

This happened to a friend of mine this very morning.
I have an, err, friend who might have done it too. Though he got it from a dispenser bot from Russians, only it was only just slightly cheaper, about what it had gone on sale for a couple of months ago (which btw is lower than the current price WTF) though he did at least get out of having to pay Washington State sales tax.

My friend hopes he will play it and that it's decent but probably not.

Don't get me wrong, I can see Betrayer getting bundled, but my faith in Groupees being the one to do it is quite low. I'd be less surprised if Gala pulled it off.
They are too busy with securing multiplayer only Early Access games about people who pretend to be airplanes.

worth noting that it is a ~40GB download, so if you have a low bandwidth cap this is the way to go.
Of course MysterD liked this. Between talking about boxed retail PC games, preferring DRM free and worrying about downloading large files over his internet connection if I didn't know better I'd swear he was European. Or from the 90s, which is about the same thing.

20%off voucher works for it without credit.
But then he'd have to, you know, pay for it.

I hope they release all of them FF's on the PC that never came here...and future FF games, too.

So, I'm basically talking FF2,4,5,6,10-1,10-2,12, and that FF13 Lightning trilogy.
You wishing for a PC port of a game? That's a new one.

Anyone think Final Fantasy III will go cheaper during this sale, or should this be it? I'm biting on VIII, but really don't want to pay THAT much for III.... I may bite on it anyhow just because I want to get rid of my DS copy which I don't play anymore, but I wanted an opinion.
If a game is on a time limited sale with a counter like a flash or daily sale (ie it's not that price for the duration of the sale through June 30th) then that's as low as it's going to go during this sale.

There's really only two tiers, what's on sale for the length of the summer sale and what's on a daily or flash deal. And some games don't even get that second tier.

Not even trying to keep up with this thread right now... but so far hasn't been a great sale for me (as in spending money) but maybe that's just the added steps in buying from a steam trader...  Jake made it so damn easy.   Anyhow, the three things I did buy on day 2 it took over an hour to get the trade to go through steam.  Even using a browser and not the client lead to multiple failed attempts.  (Which, makes it tedious to buy and I'm just not going to buy direct from steam if its not the best price...  So, yeah, wallet is winning this year.)

Anyhow, I imagine that everyone got their Skyrim DLC this sale...  :bouncy:

So he finally kicked his Diablo III addiction? Last I saw he was playing it 28 hours a day on torment VI.

*Edit: Re-read, okay I think you mean in the past Jake made it easy but dealing with other people is a PITA. To which I could refer you to http://dispenser.tf/ You can search for who's selling what game without even having to deal with people, which is great if you're anti-social.

It does use TF keys as currency though so you'd have to go buy some off the market first.

Well, geez - that's a new one, too.

;)

Born in 1980 in the USA, to be specific.

Began PC gaming in 1995 - but, you probably knew that already.

Since I've probably stated these things numerous times already.

I haven't bought anything at full price yet, I'm kinda dissapointed in myself. I am looking at Viktor to maybe get for full price :)

Morning all, I think some of you didn't sleep last night.

I bit on my first game of the sale.  75% UnEpic.  I know it'll be bundle fodder but I actually need a game to play today.  So, yeah.

So you're a console refugee. And here I thought you were a pure blood.
Everybody begins somewhere, Neuro.

Yep - began as a kid on consoles...and by the time DOS and Windows got big, I had to get a Windows PC (1995).

133 Mhz Pentium - woot. Fond memories of MechWarrior 2: Mercs, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake 1+2 on it.

And I was also an arcade gamer, too.

Played a lot of stuff at Arcades back then in 90's, too - especially fighting games like MK series, SF games, and Tekken series.

For you kids, arcades were these places you had to go to in order to play video games. You had to LEAVE YOUR HOUSE. Then you had to buy rolls of quarters. The worst part? The multiplayer. In order to get QUEUED for a game you had to place a quarter along the glass. It was sheer terror!

Computer gamer since '82...woot woot. I don't think arcades really fit into the conversation of PC vs console. I played a carpton of Tempest and Star Wars in the arcade.

Yeah - I think I was a lot more out-going back then, as well.

Those days were A LOT of fun!

I was that kid in the arcade that would walk into an arcade w/ $1 playing those MK games (especially that series), SF games, etc - and most of the time, I could make it last a good deal of the time I was there; which was normally a few hours.

Aw damn, there's a good chance the Spiderweb collection will go on sale if the community choice picks Avadon but Avernum 1&2 aren't on Steam at all and I don't want to buy them later...still ultra tempting though auuugh

And before you mention GOG I only have steambuxxxx right now :/

I also played some Double Dragon + TMNT: [Arcade Game] in the arcades, as well.

I used to dig the old pinball games, too.

I remember when Crazy Taxi just came out, there was this kid playing it and as soon as he lost he'd just put another coin and start again. The line was getting pretty long and each time he did this you could hear the frustration. Finally I said "HEY KID THERE'S A LINE" and he went "AHH I'M SORRY" and ran away. They have Crazy Taxi on Steam but it's not as good.

Escape from the Pit is a remake of the 1st Avernum. 2 and 3 aren't on Steam, but they were in the Spiderweb Humble Bundle.. could've had DRM-free copies of all 6 for as low as 1 cent.

I'm probably being lazy by not looking hard enough but my mind isn't clicking on how that that works.

What is that telling me? 5 copies of Sleeping Dogs Collection for one key each? Five copies for five keys each? All those games for ten keys (heh, not likely)?

Arcade games just aren't the same with a controller or keyboard. Hence I'm looking into a fightstick for the classic arcade fighters. I didn't grow up in the big arcade era (born in '94) but some of my fondest gaming memories come from arcades and arcade games at bowling alleys and what not.

It means there are 5 copies of Sleeping Dogs Collection in stock, and each copy costs 5 keys each (you can choose if you want to pay in tf2 or csgo keys). You can choose which game you want, so any of those listed would cost 5 keys from the seller.

So many arcade games - let's see how my memory serves me of some of those I ain't listed yet that I played...

Lethal Enforcers; Operation Wolf; Pac-Man; Ms Pac Man; Galaga; Punch-Out; Primal Rage; NBA Jam; NFL Blitz; Arch Rivals; Super High Impact; Street Smart; Samurai Showdown; 1942; Sky Shark; Ikari III; Pit Fighter; Time Killers.

I'm sure there's a ton more - but this'll do, for now...

Pfft yeah was thinking "2&3", dunno why I wrote 1

And I didn't know I'd be into those kinds of games when the bundle came out so I didn't buy it! Does that make me #fakecag or #ultracag?

Thanks. I thought that was it but then I'd see games that cost more with keys than to just pay cash. Maybe they pre-dated the sale and that's why or maybe people get the keys cheaper via TF2 trading and stuff so five keys for a $10 game is still a deal.

Anyway, it shorted my simple brain.

The one where FFVII and FFVIII were sold together for $6? I might have gone in on that if I didn't sleep through it, but I really just want FFVIII. I have enough copies of FFVII, and unless there are some amazing mods on PC, it's gonna take at least 90% off for me to buy it just for Steamcount.

As it is, I'm just gonna wait for VIII to get to 75% off somewhere.
The worst part about that "mistake" is that they tweeted the price hours after it was fixed, which means it was the correct price to begin with.

I'm certainly gonna wait - too expensive for a CAG like me.

These PC games at Retail getting so big (30-50 GB in size) - I wonder how many DVD's they'll come on. Geez.

And if these DVD's are dual-layered or what.

I really wish PC games from Retail would come on a BR-disc or some format that holds a bigger space, these days.

It'd give me another good reason to want to adopt a BR-drive for my PC.

Some of these games - like Titanfall, Wolfenstein TNO - they're just freaking huge.
We don't see games come in Bluray discs because Bluray drives are still pretty expensive - and the stupid DRM issues that plague discs on PCs will likely never be fixed (why do I have to pay money to watch my discs on PC? Eff that.)

Man... arcades. I used to be a Neo-Geo player, it was so popular around uh, here. Still was until the bootleg multicarts showed up. I used to kick ass at King of Fighters until 2001 came out and the game got glitched to hell.

The local arcades were very good in my childhood, but the owners stopped caring in 2004-2005 so I rarely visit the local ones anymore.

I used to play Dance Dance Revolution. No shame. :p I was pretty decent considering I refused to use the bar.

Never owned a Neo-Geo - but I certainly remember their arcade machines.

Oh, man - I remember Fatal Fury and Art of FIghting games at the arcades.

And when some of them got console ports to Genesis and other Non-SNK consoles.

Oh - Baseball Stars was fun on the NES, as well.

EDIT:

Oh, and here's a cool SNK Fighting Games list from Complex:

Man who the hell owned a Neo-Geo? Those games are expensive.

And that list. That list. Who in their right minds considers King of the Monsters a good game? Other than the setting and story it's AWFUL. They used a Fatal Fury 2 image in the Art of Fighting 2 entry... and Last Blade 2 at #5? WHO IS THIS GUY ARGH.

Lists are always going to be subjective and people are going to have different opinions. I normally do not agree w/ most "Lists", anyways.

Subjective is one thing, but really? Breakers, but not Breakers' Revenge? AOF2 instead of AOF3? WHERE THE fuck IS DOUBLE DRAGON? Argh!

Just got the Amnesia Collection so I figure I'll post my haul for this sale so far.

Amnesia Collection

Bioshock Triple Pack

Call of Juarez Gunslinger + FC Blood Dragon

Defy Gravity Extended (Gift from the awesome Tomasety)

EYE Divine Cybermancy

Half-Life Source

Marlow Briggs (Gift)

Mount and Blade: Warband

Mount and Blade: Warband Napoleonic DLC

All-in-all, not too bad so far. Only thing I even remotely feel like I paid a little much for was the Bioshock Triple Pack and maybe Warband, but only by $1 - $2.

Most of the stuff I want is on sale 'till the 30th, so I imagine the list will get much bigger on the last day.
