So still - nobody's gonna play this game.
I think Me + Neuro (he's using it for ME3 probably) are probably the only ones using Origin still. ;)
But... but... What about BF4...?

#battlefeel (in ycs, I'm on mobile)

I for one like origin for what it does, update and launch my games with no issues. No need for bells and whistles.

I don't own BF4 PC.

I only played the hell out of it when it had Game-Time, so I could purposely delay buying it - so that if I do buy it, it'll be damn cheap. ;)

OMG... just look at the Paranautical Activity stuff prices!!!
I don't know if I should sell the cards now or just wait. If the game returns eventually, cards prices will fall again to $0.09
There's no way it's gonna return.
They'll come back down to semi-normal levels eventually. But if you plan to sell them, do so right now. The prices will crash down, the items are expensive because everyone bought the cheap items and the only ones left are the ones that morons posted at high prices when the game was new.

I managed to grab the cards I needed for my badge right after the removal, and paid the normal price for them. But I'll never have my 69 icon now. :(

So let me get this straight... all it takes for $1 trading cards is for someone to threaten Gaben?  Why hasn't reddit coordinated this?  Way better than the treasure hunt.

Didn't Paranautical Activity already have its 15 minutes of Internet Shitstorm Infamy? It's getting hard to keep track of them all.

Indie developer meltdowns are always such a hoot. Amazing how, given a public forum, these literal nobodies will go on such over-the-top ego trips about completely inconsequential things. Just imagine this guy having to explain to his parents that the game he apparently spent years working on won't be earning him any money because, on release day, he went on Twitter and threatened to murder his distributor. What a grade-A moran.

Why didn't I buy the other 2 cards to complete a set. *smack his own face*

This should happen to those anime games cause the card prices are higher than others to begin with. Just imagine the profits...
I should've bought enough cards to complete my L5 badge. :-({|=

lulz, the comments on his Steam page are hilarious.

some of my favorites would invoke the wrath of the mods... so I can't share them with you.

Looks like another jackass shit all over himself while I was away. Guess it's business as usual then?

On another note I may decide to fakeybro Legend of Korra tomorrow. All I need to see are the words Platinum Games to make me want to buy.

you are a fake and I am disappointed in you. I was about to report you but I think a slut shaming is in order

"Don't worry guys, everything is gonna be OK, we sold TWELVE copies on non-steam platforms today," Maulbeck later Tweeted.

"We were selling more than that a minute on Steam."

Paranautical Activity

That guy's overreaction went way beyond the pale. I don't even care that there was a death threat to Newell (It certainly didnt read as a serious one) but more the petulance of it. Whats funny is he had waited 15 minutes, it would've righted itself and never would have been an issue. Its just like with new sales %s when theres a slew of stuff changing at one time. It takes time to propagate.

At any rate, if it doesnt get back on steam .40 - .50 per card right now for an oft bundled title is a nice return. The prices are dropping because people know what happened, so naturally theres gonna be the typical idiots who kill a market as soon as possible.

Look like Mooby account got hacked too... too bad, I reported to mod anyway
People liking MysterD's jokes? Other people making jokes in the same idiom?

fuck me, this must be what it feels like to be MysterD.

Actually, I probably boot up Origin more often than I do Steam. Or at least I did before I started playing Skyrim. I've always been a bit agnostic.

Everytime I see that guys twitter account I keep expecting his next tweet to read "THE ARISTOCRATS" in the largest font possible.

The guy's name is Spooder. I think that should say it all. His game sucked anyway.

Cant wait to play as PewDiePie :)

I'm not sure consumer laws come into play when we're talking about a guy selling his game through the platform. It's not a public service. People who bought PA still have access to it.
But they do. He's pretty much locked out of Steam forever. And we as consumers who use Steam are now locked out of playing that dev's future games. Plus, as Carl mentioned, it can send a chilling effect to all of the devs out there who may not go as far to issue death threats, but may be wondering if one wrong word can elicit the same response.

Having multiple competing platforms doesn't help if the games can't be transferred between them. Strong consumer protection laws force good competition among platforms, and as a result help to protect devs from things like this.

I find it hilarious that people are defending the right to make death threats. It's one of the most serious and downright awful things it's possible to say.

Do that in the UK and you'll face up to 10 years in prison. That's an extreme, but perfectly justifiable.

This is just another incarnation of the "it's only banter" mantra that's being used as an excuse to be a dick by all and sundry.

Did Steam overreact? No. Allowing that behaviour sets a bad precedent. You wouldn't insult and abuse your customers and expect a sale so why on Earth did he think that treating his vendor would reap anything different?

Manners are a lost art form.

*snooty top hat smiley*

I'd almost be willing to bet that if he been more apologetic after making the mistake, they may have given him some leeway. However he did the opposite and keeps re-tweeting other people saying "Obviously the guy didn't mean it." among other things. With how he keeps being self-destroying, we'll likely never know if he had any chance of fixing the situation.

Phil Fish shows that you can be insulting to your customers and threaten yourself and be just fine. Other developers show you can be critical of Valve's methods with no repercussions too. Just don't do unprofessional things, particularly against the company that you're partnered with to release your media. There are consequences to actions and the internet doesn't make you immune to them.

EDIT: For reference, here's the email that Valve sent him:

"On your Twitter account today there were a series of messages where you expressed your frustration with Steam. We are generally comfortable with partners expressing this type of frustration or any other viewpoint directly with us or publicly through social media and the press. But one of your tweets this morning was a threat to kill one of our colleagues. Death threats cross a line. We have therefore decided to end our business relationship with you and Code Avarice."

"We've closed down your Steam admin accounts and we're removing the game from purchase on Steam. We will leave make Community Hub available so that existing customers will continue to have a place to discuss the game. Our understanding is that you're done developing the game, but if you need to ship an update to Steam customers, get in touch with us and we can help ship the update out for you."

Oh, no - you don't wanna be me! Trust me on that one! ;)

I'm not a social butterfly, don't go out a hell of a lot, and I'm just super-interesting.

Fine, so it's just 3 people on a regular basis using Origin:

You (b/c you seem to tolerate Origin);

Me (b/c I'm a game-addict and have to play certain EA games - BF series, DA series, NFS games, etc.);

And Neuro (b/c ME3 PC version is Origin-exclusive). ;)

I think I literally only boot up Origin to get the free On The House games. So I guess that means the program is working?
