I know nobody cares but I just played through Canyon Capers to get the Playfire stuff and my god what a wretched game that is.
With most games I play I can usually find at least one small thing I like, or some place I can see what the developer was trying to do and couldn't achieve, or just find some dumb fun playing a terrible game for the lolz

Canyon Capers though...

I get what they were trying to do. I do understand it. But it's not 1994 anymore. There have been hundreds of examples of platformers with better controls to draw inspiration from.

When you game makes a THQ / LJN / Ocean platformer look good (*), then you have real problems.

* - many of which were developed by European Amiga / C64 veteran programmers and development teams, funny enough.

They made the Batman game on NES and that game is friggin awesome.

Edit: Nevermind I got that wrong. They made the shitty Batman games.

The good one was made by SunSoft.

You were all spoilt. I was raised on shitty Amiga platformers. Only rich kids had consoles, the rest of us had Amigas (mainly because we could copy* the games).

On the plus side, we had the finest racing game ever made in Supercars 2.

So did James Bond! But he was talking about his watch.

Looks like the minimum specs for The Evil Within were finally posted.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/268050/

{Minimum Req's}

  • Minimum:
    OS: 64-bit Windows 7 SP1/Windows 8.1
  • Processor: i7 or an equivalent with four plus core processor
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GTX 460 or equivalent 1 GB VRAM card
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 50 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: It’s worth noting that the 50 GB of space required is for the PC install. When the installation is complete, the game will take up ~41 GB of HDD space

Looks like I'll at least be able to play it in some form. When it's cheaper. So that's good.
There's more info on the BethBlog about this:

http://www.bethblog.com/2014/10/02/update-on-the-evil-withins-pc-requirements/

Minimum requirements for The Evil Within can now be found below. You won’t be experiencing the game at 1080p and you’ll likely need to turn off some features, but you will still be able to have a great experience with the game..

,,,

If you meet the recommended specs, you’re in for the ideal experience. The game looks amazing with full-screen anti-aliasing, full shadow quality, motion blur, tessellation, SSAO, and 1080p visuals.
Won't be 1080p on minimum?

So, my question is: what's the minimum settings experience?

720p? 900p? Or What?

Had a 500 and a 2000. But I also had...wait for it... a CD32. Actually, I just recently tossed it as I'm now in my "there's no such thing as nostalgia" mode.

I had a Commodore 64 but that probably cost more than the consoles when it came out.  More importantly, it started me on the road to PC>Console supremacy as my friends would have to beg their parents to buy them a copy of Super Zelda Kong whereas I'd just go onto a BBS and download a hundred games, complete with "trainers" (i.e. God mode).

I had a Commodore 64 and later a 128 growing up. All of the neighbor kids had NES & I wasn't allowed to have one.

Funny thing is, I remember my friends always begging their parents for new games.... where the only thing I ever asked my parents for were new packs of blank floppy disks. :whistle2:D

I even remember telling them not to waste money on the Dual sided disk scam for twice the price... because with my kiddo safety scissors I could cut a notch in the opposite side of the floppy, and "make it" a dual sided. CAG4Life baby!

The games that I do remember buying were the bulk of the TSR D&D games in the Forgotten Realms universe & sharing those retail copies with a pal who bought the Dragon Lance ones. Good times!

Yeah, those SSI Gold Box games needed the journals to go with them to really work.  I did change all the code wheel answers to a single word via hexeditor but that was mainly so I didn't have to screw with matching up runes just to start the game.

Has anyone yet mentioned that Enola keys are now available on Desura? Despite being from a Groupees bundle, they will allow you to create a Steam key (or two) for the game.

I won't deny that there were some very talented artists, musicians and programmers working in those consoles but they sucked at programming controls. I respect them for being pioneers. I still think they were shit at gameplay. :p

I gotta give props to Groupees.

They make it damn easy to track what keys I have used. In fact, the only way it could be easier would be if they had a page within a profile that only showed unmarked keys. I just went back through every single bundle I bought from them (something I swear I did around xmas) and found I had 5 more Steam games to add, and a couple Desura games.

"there's no such thing as nostalgia" mode.
This is long but brings up a good discussion.
This brings up a good one I use to own more systems that I could ever play from an Atari, Coinop, Sony, Sega, Microsoft, PC and etc with games still shrink wrapped. Then I joined an organization that I thought I wouldn't have time to do those things I was wrong but sold everything before knowing that except my PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Now I have a PS4, Xbone, Vita with those other three and I think I am just overwhelmed than nostalgia and want to get rid of everything and focus on one system like PC and just game when I can. And actually beat games.

Shout out to the fellow C64 owners. I remember using a hole puncher, at just the right angle to make those floppys dual sided.

sigh..... Load "*",8,1 the good old days

My big games back in that day, Ultima 3, Gunship and Skate or Die.

Like some of you, I also had a C64.

Favorite games:  AD&D Gold Box games (mostly the Pool of Radiance series), BC's Quest for Tires, Choplifter, and Archon!

Ahh the good old post count, the virtual equivalent to Viagra. Dont need the stuff myself, but to
each his own.

Blade and Souffrir, i really dont see what my comment had to do with either of you, unless you are some of the lurkers in reference.
yeah, people with high post counts can be lurkers too.
There are more ways to contribute to this site than just posting every chance you get.
CAG use to feel like a family, but now its so different. Its no wonder so many of the good friends
ive made here have stopped posting.

For a family, all I have are toaster that are in the same generation/model-line, but have different numbers and whatnot.

Yeah, kind of like a video card. ;)
You can always have me at your side :p (Not as close as Bobby's body though XD)

Actually, CAG feels just like my family used to.

Good times.
CAG as a whole, or the few threads you post in? I see all you regulars that frequent the steam deals discussion. Its always entertaining

here, and most of you seem like a good bunch of eggs. CAG as a whole use to be like that, but over time I have seen it devolve and become segregated with so many thread wars, trolls, and just plain D-Bags. Im sure a lot of CAGs do like i do, check the 3-4 threads they like and move on. I use to spend hours on CAG, that was my point basically
