The purpose of the forums - and this site - is for people to find cheap deals on games. It's right there in the title of the website. More harm comes to the site's reputation if people feel that it does not reflect cheap deals. I don't want our members getting a poor deal if they're uninformed. I'd rather they be informed and make an educated decision.

In the instance you objected to, a member was informing others that a particular set of games was still available at retail for less than the seller's quote. I expect that people on this site - again, remembering the site's name - would rather buy the bundle for $1 rather than buy each individual game for $1.

If someone wants to pay higher than retail, that's their prerogative. But I, and many others on here, are against people overpaying because they're uninformed.

We feel that the nature of this site is one where we look out for each other. Greater transparency is good for this forum. If the mods would like to come down with an official stance on this matter and delete posts and issue bans for informing other members of current pricing - they may do so. I fear that this site will be the worse for it.

More importantly, they have not done so. If you object to a member's post, next time send a PM. I would have done the same but I'd like others to know that the historical culture of this site and this forum is one where we look out for one another. Your post insinuated otherwise and publicly discouraged what I and others believe to of value on this forum - allowing members to make educated trades.

My apologies to other members and the mods for adding to the clutter. I will use PM the rest of the way.

There still will be sweet deals, but far more limited it seems. Will be sure to add a disclaimer on my next trading post warning that games bought from me should be activated right away to avoid region locks if they happen further down the road. (again,these region locks are for gift copies only. Redeemed copies have no restrictions)

No worries, those would be fine. As it stands, there is no actual way of Valve region locking the ability to play the game if you already activated it(in cases of games that are ROW or only have one SubID). At least in my case, I only sell ROW/games with only one general subID. Those cannot be locked because the lock would apply to all the people who have the game with that SubID, not just the people who got it from other regions.

I thought that the "onlyallowrunin" flag could prevent you from playing activated games, or does that just prevent you from activating it? I thought I'd seen people who had activated something on their account, then a region lock was imposed later on and they couldn't play the game.

Yes, that is correct. Those happened with games that have already have a tag since the beginning, be it "RU" or "CIS".(I strongly advise not buying or getting games that have RU tags before they release. The danger of region locking is too much,imo. I would recommend waiting one week or two after release to see if it gets region locked)

I was talking about ROW copies/games with only one SubID(like Rust, 7 days to Die, Divinity:Original Sin, and others). Valve cannot put a "onlyallowrunin" flag on those because everyone who ever bought it, either on their region or a cheaper one, would be affected.

You might want to keep those at least for a couple of days until we see what happens.

Until now, Steam had created a new game ID for every game that became region-locked. But this time they just added the flag "AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting" to the existing ID, causing the existing gift items to become region-locked retroactively. And I don't think that was intended.

If you purchased a game and you were not informed about region restrictions (no disclaimer), you must be able to gift it to your folks abroad, or to activate it in a different area. Otherwise that might be against your statutory rights. Something similar happened with Black Flag, and they lifted the lock for people who purchased it before the disclaimer was added.

My guess is that an intern screwed up and everything will be ok in the morning.

Thanks for that. I think I just need to step away for the night and see where things go. Maybe circumstances will change, maybe they won't. But regardless....I'm probably not in the best frame of mind right now. I posted a blurp about an intention to trade the two games elsewhere and have seen several low offers. I'm getting desperate / angry - which even I find ridiculous.

For what its worth, I don't hold any of our CAG resellers responsible for this. Steam - and PC gaming in general - has always been the wide open frontier. Rules and procedures change as quickly as ones internet connection will allow. In the end "see what happens" really epitomizes what Steam is about. And tomorrow is a new day. Thanks again.
