IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 9, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc., who repeatedly asked the gaming press to not disturb its friend because he was "dead tired," today announced that it has acquired the North American publishing rights for Steambot Chronicles™ Battle Tournament for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, an action game overflowing with intense mech customization, an open-world mission structure, and fast-paced arena style combat. Did we mention you spend most of the game making the earth beneath your hulking metal feet tremble as you impose your will using your awesomely impressive, customized Trotmobile of destruction? Yes, that's right, this game is all about metal-on-metal action!

Steambot Chronicles Battle Tournament opens its valves this summer.

About Steambot Chronicles Battle Tournament
A young Trot driver comes to Orion City with one dream in mind: to win the prestigious Orion City Trotmobile gladiator tournament. However, you'll quickly learn that it takes more than pluck and optimism to earn victory in the coliseum. With the help of a spirited mechanic named Venus, you'll have to take on a series of jobs to earn the money and fame required to make a name for yourself about town as a skilled Trotmobile operator. When a series of bandit attacks begins to affect the city's economy and distress the citizens, who will have the mettle and the metal to put a stop to it?

Key Features

* You control your adventure -- Mission-based gameplay puts you in the driver's seat: you choose what you do and say. Take on missions ranging from cross-town delivery to mining in a canyon to defeating bandits. The money and fame points earned can be used to upgrade your Trotmobile and enter arena battles.
* Complete freedom to build -- The cardinal rule of Trotmobile design is that there is no ideal design. Instead, there are tons of customization options, letting you upgrade your arms, legs, heads, bodies, and more, each changing the nature of how you battle! Personalize your vehicle with color and emblem to make it distinctively yours.
* Four-player competition mode -- Clash with your friends' Trotmobiles in 4 player ad hoc multiplayer! Set each player against the others battle royale style, or pair up for tag team action.
* One cartridge, four players -- Only one UMD disc? You can still compete! Activate "game sharing" to enter multiplayer mode with standard Trotmobiles, or use multiple UMDs to have access to your customized battle vehicles!

Steambot Chronicles: Battle Tournament has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

I'm pumped for this. Steambot was one of my favorite new franchises to emerge last gen and I have been eager for more robot action. The blokus game was pretty shit but I bought it anyways. I tried the Japanese version of this but I'm just too rusty and only got about an hour into this. Looks like I'll have to pick up a PSP again.

Just got this in my e-mail not too long ago. Looks interesting but i REALLY need online co-op for multiplayer on the PSP to be useful.

I have to agree.

All these great titles coming out for PSP with so much potential for multiplayer gaming, yet there doesn't even seem to be a plan for releasing Ad-Hoc Party over here, even though it is out and working on the Japanese PSN.

Not even that, how hard is it to set up a P2P infrastructure? I don't care if it has a lot of options, i just want to be able to play online without a PS3...

I've been playing this since I got it last week and I"m enjoying it. I never played the original on the PS2, so I don't know how much story that one had but it's pretty light in BT here. I've had maybe four points of significant story interest that were just quick conversations after about six hours of playing the game.

I'm enjoying the gameplay quite a bit since it's not just another sandbox game, but the city is more of a hub to the few points of interest either outside or inside the city that the game takes place in. The missions are a bit repetitive in the same way that the first Naruto game on the 360 was, in that you head to mostly the same areas and fight the same enemies in the same spots over and over again. It feels like there should be more of a reward for fighting these guys than just the money and refills for your HP and fuel that they do drop. You do get stronger by upgrading your parts in the repair shop, though you only get a certain amount of upgrades for each part that forces you to make sure you're upgrading the useful attributes.

The only other repetitive thing I've noticed is that it's oddly realistic in that you have to park your Trot and get out to go fight in the coloseum, get new missions, or to get the money for a completed mission.

Other than those small issues, it's been fun so far without much difficulty, so it doesn't seem like a very challenging game if that's important to you.

Thanks a ton Frisky. Once again an excellent review.

So far I think Im going to sit this one out. 29.99 would have been a maybe but 39.99 is just ridiculous...especially for what sounds like a shallow experience.

On another note, are you considered a part of the gaming press? Do you by chance have any info on the NA version of Cardboard Senki?

I am, but I haven't heard anything about that game. I looked it up and it seems a bit like SC, but with more of a Pokemon aspect to it. IGN has somewhat of an update on it that's more about the story than release dates.

I cannot find this game anywhere; I couldn't pre-order at my local GS for some reason, called today and they (obviously) got in zero copies. Bah

I ran into the same thing with Crimson Gem Saga. I am curious if this is something particular to Atlus, as this would be the second time that the option to preorder doesnt even exist.

I agree that at this point in the psp lifespan's all games should be $29.99 or less, with the majority at $19.99. Steambot is definately a $19.99 game.

Not sure about that, but it should be at most $29.99. I remember when Atlus released the 3 Xbox 360 titles for $59.99. Each of them should have been worth $19.99-$29.99 at release too.
