It costs 50P(oints) to 'purchase' 1 invite key, a new user starts with 25P and it takes a while to get more points (you're dependent on the amount of giveaways and their values), so I am astounded as to how you people got 5 keys each to give away o_O

Sounds like an awesome site. Wish I had been able to get a code. I just checked my account is valued at $1,235.96. Thankfully I spent much less than that.
 
Steamgifts is simple. It's a raffle system. People just raffle off their Steam games. It's not connected to Steam, the site itself doesn't give away games, all of the content is user generated. You spend points to enter the raffles, points are accrued over time whenever anyone on the site creates a legitimate raffle.

The price limit to joining the site is to prevent people making multiple accounts (they figure people with at least 50 dollars are less likely to be a dummy account). The content being user generated does mean there are some jerks that will create fake crap but they're usually easy to spot (rule of thumb, 9 Skyrims giveaway is probably fake) and also dependant on sales or events (right now there's a lot of THQ stuff and Duke Nukem DLC).
