Steven Spielberg to produce the new Transformers movie

E-Z-B

CAGiversary!
This may be old news to some, but today's the first day I've heard about it. So I figured I'd tell everyone else since I didn't see it mentioned yet on these boards when doing a search.

Dreamworks is set to start filming a live-action movie on the Transformers with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. The movie should be out in summer '06:

Here's an interview from the screewriter yesterday: http://filmforce.ign.com/transformers/articles/567/567989p1.html

I know I'm not the only Transformer fan out there.

That's what I was thinking. They were able to pull off Jurassic Park so I don't doubt it, but it's just hard to imagine. This has to be the movie I'm looking forward to the most.

I'm still trying to figure out which Transformers they'll use and from which toyline. I can't seem to find much on the internet yet.

I did see speculation that Megatron will transform into a tank, which might mean that he'll look like his Generation 2 mode from the mid-90s.

Also, if anyone's interested, you can still buy some cheap 80s re-releases of the TFs from Amazon/ToysRUs: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34867

If tey are going to use computer effects why not just have Megatron shrink to his gun size when he trasnforms?

I'm picking up the gist that they want to keep it "realistic". Meaning that Megatron won't transform into a gun, and Soundwave won't transform into a tape player due to physics.

According to producer Don Murphy, "There are NO voice actors yet. There may be soon. I will personally make sure that our director considers (Frank Welker) and the gang. I think celebrity voices for a film like this is moronic." Murphy also said of rumors that there will be no movie tie-in toys from Hasbro, "dream on. That's the very reason they [Hasbro] WANT a film from Steven Spielberg." As for details, Murphy said, "1: I do not see mass shifting happening. 2: I do not see a giant robot turning into a cassette player. 3: Hasbro will not have a toy that turns into a pistol. 4: I just saw the robots in 'Sky Captain' at Comic-Con -- we want ours to be the opposite of those. Personalities! [We] are NOT doing anything to do with Beasts and Dinos and (expletive). ... The next few weeks will have us, ala X-Men, decide on 7 core members of each team. DeSanto will be there to make sure we stay true."

I'd just like to add that I have the comic in the OP in mint condition.
I don't think its worth more than $5-$10 though.

After reading what that guy said will and won't be in the film, it's kind of hard to think of who will make the cut beyond the obvious choice (Optimus Prime).

this is old news but thanx for the updated stuff[/quote]

did you check out the clips on in this thread ? while they aren't actual transfomers.. it kinda gives a glimpse on what the movie could possibly hold in store.

Dec 2004 Wizard guide lists that comic(issue #1 of the original mini and start of the regular numbering) priced at $20. if its in good shape that could be about right. i have every issue made of the old and new dreamwave series. the hardest to find most expensive and desired are the last 3 of the original series, issues 78-80.

my entire collection of transformers comics toys and things that can fill a warehouse will take a nice jump in price when this movie hits

This is not completely correct. Peter Cullen has been signed to provide the voice of Optimus Prime. For those who don't know, Peter Cullen is the original voice of Prime.

This is a great start.

After watching those movies I'm actually kinda excited for what could happen with a a live action transformers movie (at first I was terrified and had visions of Godzilla and Power Rangers). Anyone heard anything more about the Evangelion live-action movie?

On a side note (and I'm sure this has been said a million times before), but does hollywood have ANY originality these days? Or the entire toy industry for that matter... Walking into Toys R US nowadays is almost like walking into one when many of us were kids - Star Wars, He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers, Cabbage Patch Kids, Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony... pretty soon they'll start manufacturing Manglor again and the entire space time continuum will collapse and the universe will become a tower of flowing slime and little green blob men that you can never put together again.
