This amazing compendium illustrates the game development and promo artwork of the legendary designers themselves: Akiman, Shinkiro, Shoei, Edayan, and CRMK. Slammed cover to cover with incredible full-color images on 298 pages and featuring behind-the-scenes interviews with the creators of the series and character histories. In addition, this rare English version includes an exclusive bonus chapter detailing the North American franchise.

Only 500 copies of this hardcover English version were printed and we now have less than a dozen copies available.
Here's a review, but this one line pretty much sums it up:
If you are or ever were an SF whore, this is the book for you; it's not just an artbook, it's a history book!
I know this isn't a video game and technically belongs in the "Other Deals" forum, but this should be seen by everyone. It's a great artbook with the hardcover long out of print. It's sold out at the publisher's site and only the paperback is only sold at retail. And it's 15% off to boot.

Anyway, there's less than 11 now. ;)

Awesome - but daaang that's expensive.

And seriously - some of the art in the past left me thinking "wtf were they thinking"

But awesome nevertheless
Does this artbook use thick paper, or magazine-type paper? Do you know? :bomb:
Looks like magazine-type paper.

From Amazon:

So I own both this version and the Japanese version, and I must say, I like this book. The art is phenomenal. I only have a couple of complaints, and they wouldn't have really been complaints if I didn't own the Japanese version, too.

Firstly, the paper. They used magazine paper. BLARGH. I hate that kind of paper; it feels way too flimsy. The Japanese version has a nice heavy paper that feels solid (and isn't SEE-THROUGH).

Second, the font and layout used in the US version just seems less professional than the Japanese version. I don't really know how to explain it, but if you see the two, you'll see what I'm talking about. Especially in the titles of the interviews. They're in huge block fonts; some of the words with outlines, some without; in like 10 different colors. It really takes away from the aesthetics. I wish they were simpler and cleaner. To be fair, the Japanese uses big block text in the title of this same area, but the characters aren't outlined - the outlines are really a drawback for the US version, IMHO - and the overall layout of the title is just cleaner.

That being said, as its own book (not in comparison to the Japanese version), this is a great purchase for any Street Fighter fan. I would recommend it without reservation to anyone who likes some good ol' fashioned HA-DOU-KEN.

I honestly don't. There are some reviews on Amazon talking about the paper quality, though those are in reference to the second print of the paperback. I'm not sure when the hardcovers first appeared. They were exclusive to conventions and UDON's online store.

There are two different versions of the same book, same cover, and same paperback. difference is that the book listed in this page (released on October, 2005) is better than the other. Only reason is that the paper is heavy weight and not too soft.

The other book is the same thing but paper are way too thin, and to get something for the same price, it would be a no brainer to get the one with thicker and better paper. So get this one

That's the first print of the paperback.

I would imagine that they wouldn't skimp on a hardcover.
I have both the Shinkiro and Akiman version. They are printed on quality thick paper.
Can you possibly take a picture of the Shinkiro book... please? I really want to see how big the book is. :D
Ordered one last night. Got an e-mail this morning saying my order was on hold b/c they're out of stock. Thanks anyway!
Yeah, I got the same email this morning...
Yeah, I got the same email this morning...

I would so buy this in a heart beat... But I'm unsure about the paper. If I knew that it used thick paper, then I'd buy. :bomb:
if it is the hardcover, then the paper quality is not magazine-ish... it's the good kind of quality.

I too got me this book @ comicon! it was $80 as was the Art of Udon, but you could buy both for $120!!

I got the Art of Udon book signed by a few of the doods from the camp and someone bought it off me for $100 =P

Man, I'm still trying to find the Street Fighter Ultimate Edition Vol 1. It's sold out everywhere! I remember going to buy.com about a year ago to get it for $20 with google checkout, but it was sold out by that day. I shouldn't have waited so long. Now it's hard to find.

Chewster- are you talking about the hardcover version? Isn't that the one that goes for over $200 now? I would love to find one of those now. Would pay well for it if anyone here has one (ultimate edition volume 1, 1st print hardcover release).

I'd take either version. I remember there being a black hardcover Akuma version, which is what you are probably referring to, as well as a white normal one that has ryu on the front. Anyone know where these are still available to buy?

As did I. Thanks again for the heads up though, OP.

I still want that book as well. Amazon had it for sell too but I don't know if they ever got the books in as no one had reviews for the book saying they got it.

I saw a couple of ones on sale for 40-50ish, but im not sure if the site is trust worthy, as most of the bigger retailers are mostly Sold out or Back Ordered.

How much is the one with the White Ryu cover worth anyway? So far, all I see is $300+ for hard-cover so I'm guessing at least $100-200?

Udon's re-printing the Ultimate Edition, this time with a black cover featuring Evil Ryu. It should be out in the next couple of months, along with a re-print of their Darkstalkers TPB (something I've been waiting to get for a while). I looked around a few months ago and was able to snag a White Ryu cover for like $35 from BarnesNoble.com, but they're out-of-stock now, so I imagine the only places to get the original White Ryu softcover or the Akuma hardcover are through places like eBay.

Oh, and it's definitely worth picking up the Ultimate Edition. Just be careful with the binding on the softcover: mine's already sort of coming undone even though I deliberately tried not to put much stress on it while reading.

How do you know that they are doing a reprint of the Street Fighter: The Ultimate Edition ? I can't find that info on their site.

Really? That's great! I'll hold out a while longer then.

I e-mailed Udon about it a few months ago, and about a month or two later I got a response saying what I said. At the very least you can see some places have pre-orders up for the Darkstalkers TPB. :)

Here's the Amazon link:

http://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighte...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1198097542&sr=8-1

It isn't available right now, but you can see the cover the re-print will have.
meh, where's my freaking okami artbook?! :bomb:
According to Udon it should be out Jan or Feb 2008.

Weird, ... I just received a confirmation e-mail from Capcom saying that my order has now shipped. My credit card has not been charged yet, nor does the tracking number provided yield any results yet. Has anyone else gotten this? Did they print more? The product pages still reads: "We are SOLD OUT!!"
Pics! Put up pics! :D
Purrty plz? :bomb:
Certainly, haha. I'll have some up for in a couple of days.

They upped the price a little, but I still had to bite. Street fighter is my fav game series of all time. :D

Well, my $80 book shipped today after ordering it yesterday. I hope I dont have buyer's remorse when I get it, although I have read some good things about it. It better keep its value and stay kinda rare. This was not one of my typical cheapass purchases. I dont usually pay full price for something. But hopefully I will love the book like most who have it do.
That convinced me to buy it. Dammit, there goes $85...
you get a different cover from the Capcom store, but it's the inside that counts. ^^ i would prefer that Japanese cover too...
