street fighter vs mortal kombat

Capcom fighters are simply better than anything else, and with Street Fighter being the grandaddy of them all, it should be no surprise that everyone picks it over Mortal Kombat.

sf2, i can't believe one guy complained that sf2 had too many good players on live, that's the only reason i keep playing, there's no way you could see the high level fighting styles for literally every characters at your local arcade... even in it's heyday (unless you lived in one of the sf2 meccas)

Virtua Fighter > Soul Calibur > SNK Fighters > Street Fighter > Tekken > Making fighters out of my own poop > Making fighters out of my own pee (more difficult) > Mortal Kombat

I might be forgetting some in there, but that's about how it goes for me.

someone sucks at street fighter..

guffaw

scrub!

Comparing Street Fighter to Mortal Kombat is like comparing Baseball to Football, they both stand on thier own merits. Sure Street Fighter may be the more balanced and tournament friendly of the fighters but Mortal Kombat has a whole lot to offer. Konquest mode, Chess, Puzzle games, Racers(!?), a really fun 2 player co-op beat 'em up etc. Is Mortal Kombat broken? (as in unbalanced with infinates, glitches etc.) Yes, it its. Is it fun? Ypu bet. Get a bunch of folks around and see how much fun you can have just doing the stage fatalities on Amageddon or Deception. Now I'm not bashing Street Fighter either, I've put FAR more time into Alpha 3 than I care to admit. It's just two different, and equally FUN games.
Personally I enjoyed Street Fighter EX3 more than Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
And that completly nullified every statement you've said in this thread so far.

I'm really tired of MK bashing, most of it comes from scrubs who play one or two games and then completly dismiss it without any real complaints. God forbid someone grows a damn brain and learns to think for themselves.
I'm going with Mortal kombat, fuck street fighter and it's inability to produce anything decent after third strike.
eff dat.

even if Capcom never makes anything after 3rd strike,

I'll still be playing Third Strike!!

CVS2 and MVC2 both came out after 3S, and they're well over decent.

Actually I used to love MK back in the day. That completey nullified any point you were trying to make.

I gotta agree with him about EX3 > DA. Although I think EX3 is probably the worse one in the series, I still think it's better than pretty much any of the 3D MK's (except MK4, that one wasn't too horrible). To me, the past few MK games just feel like button mashers. And the very last one they released, Armagaddeon, doesn't even have character specific fatalities, eliminating any interest I ever had in the MK series. :p

TMNT Tournament Fighters.

You should've added a poll.

I didn't read through the thread, though I expect it to be one-sided.

Street Fighter is much better than Mortal Kombat. While both franchises have clones and crappy games, I think it comes down to SFA3 and MK2.

And SFA3 is 100% better than MK2.

As a game, Street Fighter.

As a story (characters, arc, etc.), Mortal Kombat.

MK movie is way better then the Street Fighter movie. Both series have high and low points, Mortal Kombat Gold, that attempted 3-d piece of trash Street Fighter game...what was it called?

sf is great but the first 3 mk games were just more fun...i've never seen people so intense in an arcade than when they were beating the shit out of the original MK.

i couldn't care about either of them now, i live in the past ha!
SF3 vs. MK:Armageddon.

Lets see...MK had 7 years to catch up...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand fail!
Apples and oranges. Compare the 3D games from the series, and it's MK in a walk.

MK has personality. Street Fighter has none. Enjoy whatever "deeper gameplay" you think you have with SF. MK wins.

I do dig those Capcom-produced vs. games, though. Yeah, pretty much all of them.

Okay so here is basically how it plays out.

Street Fighter has a shit ton of fantastic games featuring its characters. (SSF2T, SFA2, SFA3, SF3:3s, MvC2, CvS2, XvSF, MvC and more)

Mortal Kombat has 1 amazing one (UMK3), 1 solid one (MKII) and a 3rd (Shaolin Monks) that is pretty fun but essentially irrelevent to this argument.

Now, to essentially compare the quality of Ultimate 3 to the best of the best Street Fighter games (for argument's sake, we'll say MvC2 and SF3:3s), it is a hands down, no questions asked win for Capcom. Their games are just straight up better.

Now, this doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the MK series (many here will vouch for the fact that I'm a big fan and can beat you in whatever one you want), but simply that, as a competitive level fighting game player, I can see the quality that the quinessential Capcom fighters possess that just isn't present in any games in the MK series.

As much as I love me some UMK3, the Street Fighter series is just exponentially better.

As for the people arguing about 3D, who really cares? They all basically suck for both series, with the exception of Street Fighter EX+A. MK: Deadly Alliance is mediocre at best.

For the person who argued that MK has more content (ex. Chess and Kart), let me ask you this. Why the hell are you playing Mortal Kombat for any of that stuff? It's been done better (Battle Chess, Mario Kart) many more times then I can count.

To the person who said something about Street Fighter snobs, what does that make you? I'm pretty sure that makes you a Mortal Kombat fanboy, which is basically just as bad. Besides, we're not snobs, we're just correct :).

To anyone else who thinks Mortal Kombat, before you bother to type out your oh so compelling argument, sit down and play Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike all in a row. You'll see what I'm talking about after a few minutes.

there really should be a poll

also Primal Rage is the prehistoric champ of brawlers or that beast wars transformers game that was only available through Blockbuster

but really Ryu kills all of MK
