Sorry if this has been posted before, I didn't run a search, anyway...

I bought a ps3 20gb about 2 weeks ago with the hopes of reselling it. As you probably already know, ps3 prices have tanked. I was going to return it but I ran across a nice little promo at Gamecrazy. They're running a promo where if you trade up to a 360, any console you trade in gets an automatic 50% bump in credit. Ps3 20gbs trade in for $400 normally, so with the bonus you get $600 in credit. Also, when you buy a system you get buy 2 get 1 on games. This might be a good idea for those who are "stuck" with a ps3 and want to get a 360 and some games instead.

Carry On.

damn. That's crazy. They're giving more credit than the MSRP. Good deal if you want a 360 and can't unload your PS3.

In theory, but has anybody actually tried to trade it in? They probably have exclusion in small print somewhere stating it's only for PS2/Xbox/etc.
Wouldn't you have to buy a 360 though? If it says towards a 360.
Yeah... I wonder what would happen to the extra credit.:whistle2:k
Yeah... I wonder what would happen to the extra credit.:whistle2:k
expires in 60 or 90 days or so....

there are actually two deals. one is the 50% bump up for any used system towards the wii or the 360. with the 360 the system has to be on the same transaction. but with the wii deal you can put it on a gift card as i did (and they will totally do this as they are pushing gift cards)
I heard somewhere that the wii deal expired on the 15th but as the units have not really come in yet, they were extending the deal.
as always ymmv

I live in Yakima and the local has had 60gb PS3s for about 3 days. Our local Costco has a PS3 bundle going for $700. I talked to employees in both stores and they mentioned that people are only looking for the Wii. Is the controller that much of a gimmick that it has people snatching them up like hotcakes and leaving the PS3s on the shelf?
Yeah... I wonder what would happen to the extra credit.:whistle2:k
Use it to buy games, its store credit. I think what he ment to say is, its not really useful unless you are looking to buy an Xbox 360.

I have a Wii. It is nothing special. I just beat zelda today and I've noticed that there aren't any games I want until mid 2007, which makes me think if I should have kept this Wii or even waited in that line for 1 hour. I was originally going to trade my psp towards a wii but gamecrazy has weak shipments of wiis as well as they oversold the preorders.

The new flyer from gamecrazy states that PS3 and Wii are acceptable for this deal, so it is in print if anyone gives you a hard time. Also, yes you would have to buy a 360 premium using $400 of the credit, but the remaining balance can be applied to a gift card and used for anything in the store.

So yea.. whats the total amount of credit for a Wii with the 50% towards an xbox 360? I'm at that some point where I've beaten Zelda and no other games are looking good for awhile.

Here's my receipt from earlier today:

I think the price is a large part of it, most people here don't have a spare $600 laying around but $250 isn't too much extra debt on a credit card.

I remember the first shipment of xbox360s to the Yakima Costco lasting several days.

You bought a PS3 and now have no reason for it? This folks is the beginning of Sony's loss of the crown.

Brian bought atleast 10-15 PS3s in hope of paying his rent for the next 6 months. He has no job and no aspiration to have one. However this deal is great if you do plan on dumping a PS3 and want a 360 instead.

EDIT: YMMV on this deal. While is does not EXCLUDE PS3 from this program, most stores will not trade it in for more then what they sell it for used. So if they sell a 20 gig for $399.99 used, and the current trade-in value is $350, they will max you out at the $399.99. As always, just because 1 person got in on this deal does not mean everyone else will. We ran a similar deal when I ran a GC and was told the same thing I posted above. The highest trade-in you can give is what we sell it for. Most managers will catch this right away.

People want to play good games. Wii have Zelda. PS3 has a crappy FPS shooter. Wii is $250. PS3 is $500. BIG difference there Sony lover.

Have you played Resistance? Don't think so, if you haven't then shut your mouth and don't call it crappy. For all you know, it's a great game.

I love mine, more now with component cables giving me clear pictures on my tv now, my wife had all her nursing student friends over to study the other week, they all loved it, Nintendo definantly is playing for the casual gamer this time around

... and for games Excitetruck is fun, Super Swing has a different swing mechanic from Wii Sports and is a blast, there are some fun games... its a perfect compliment to my 360... and I dont think price is the main reason the Wii is flying off the shelves, it has recieved alot of glowing press

Unlike some people here, I don't talk shit about something I have never played. Yes, Ive played Resistance, about 6-8 hours worth. Its not that great. Its an above average FPS game, nothing more. Is it worth spending $500/$600 on a PS3 for? No. If it came out for the 360, which I own, I wouldn't even buy it.

Merry christmas to you too Gizmogc.

*shrugs*

My friend bought a PS3 and a whole bunch of games (later returned most of them). His PS3 and Resistance are sitting in a corner somewhere while he plays Gears of War on his 360 (which he got about a week before his PS3 came in).

Methinks $ony's dominance is coming to a close.

Happy Holidays, sir. I don't celebrate the Christmas.

Its all in good fun, Brian. I don't blame you for making money buying/reselling. I do it all the time. You just got a damn good deal at GC. I wonder how much they sell used PS3s for. If its less then $400 I may bite simply for playing Blu Ray movies. This stupid format war won't be ending any time soon and I don't want to miss out.

You're right about it not being the reason to own a PS3, but it isn't that bad considering it's the best game on the PS3 right now. But whatever, your entitled to your opinion and I respect that since you've played it, unlike some people who hasn't and bash it for no apparent reason.

This is neither here nor there but I didn't want to make a thread for it (and it is Gamecrazy related). I went into a Gamecrazy at about 7:30 PM Thursday to trade a few games in. They were selling Wii's first come first served. Said they had them all day. That is amazing to me since this is an area where people lined up well in advance of all the TRU/CC/Best Buy/Target Sunday sales such that showing up 2-3 hours before those stores opened meant you were out of luck. I guess no one looks for systems at Gamecrazy??

I have all three systems:

And I personally think BOTH the PS3 and Wii suck right now. I've had both since day one. Resistance is alright. If you have a 360, and Resistance released on it, it might of been worth picking up. But was it worth a $500 investment? No way in hell. In addition, I have "one of those" 1080i TVs, and so all Blu-Ray movies are downscaled to 480p. Heck, my upscaling DVD player makes traditional DVDs look better than Talladega Nights or X-Men 3 on BR.

As for the Wii; Wii Sports is kinda neat, but only when playing with friends or family. As a single player excursion, it is entirely lackluster. I have Red Steel, and I've played it for about 30 minutes. It blows, plain and simple. Then there is Zelda. I've beat every Zelda console game (minus the CD-i games), and for some reason, I have no desire to finish TP. It's just the same thing I've done a hundred times before. Also, I feel like the controller is gimicky. Plus, I couldn't get my hands on component cables, and so now I've given up. The graphics are really disappointing! For those who respond "gameplay > graphics;" to you I say the Wii doesn't deliver exceptional gameplay either.

On the 360's end, I already have over 13 games that I absolutely love. Oblivion is magnificent, GoW is phenomenal, and there is a plethora of good racing games. Xbox Live is stable, fun, and quick. And the HD video looks breathtaking. I hate Microsoft. Hell, I will only buy Apple computers for the rest of my life. However, there is no denying that MS is doing a lot of things right.

Sorry to jump in but being a CAG, wouldn't it be hard to justify paying $700 (60gig version + tax + game) for 1 game, no matter how good it is? And I can guarentee Resistance isn't the best game ever by checking out how PS3s on Ebay are selling for less than retail sometimes. =X Other than the Sweet brand new console feeling I don't see how it's worth it right off the bat.

I played Resistance.

It was crappy.
I played Resistance.

Woah, woah, woah. I wouldn't say it's crappy. It's actually pretty good. It has an interesting story, with a plenty long campain. There are a wide variety of enemies, and the guns are very neat. I especially like the gun that also allows you to shoot a shield in front of you. The action is tight and well paced. Heck, the graphics are pretty good, but with recent titles like GoW, they just don't stack up. The online is solid. It's not very strategic, and I don't think it'll have much legs. But, I can be in a 40player game with zero lag just a few seconds after turning on my system. There are lots of maps, and plenty of gametypes. Like I said, it's a good game, it just doesn't justify the price of the PS3. I bought the PS3 because I know I'll want one in the next year or so when solid exclusives start being released for it. So I might as well buy it now and enjoy it longer.

Wait, wait wait... I thought the only issue with "one of those" 1080i TVs (which I also have - hmmm, seems to be more widespread than Sony claims) was that 720p-only games will downscale. I assumed Blu-Ray would output 1080i. Is this really not the case? If so, that removes any possibility of me getting a PS3 until they come out with a revision to fix this, or I get a new TV (which is not in the next year, anyway). Can you at least browse the web in 1080i? Can you do anything in 1080i?

I actually saw 3 60GB available in a local store (Fred Meyer) in my rinky-dink town. Despite the store being packed all day, the systems sat there untouched - it was 10pm when I saw them. Amazing, but even so, I was very tempted to buy one. I thought I'd at least be able to enjoy HD movies with it. In fact, I was sitting here on CAG thinking I might haul myself over there in the AM and get one. But no, I guess not for sure...

From what I've been reading it only affects games in 720p, then it will downscale to 480p if your tv does not do 720p. Since Hi-Def dvd's are in 1080p they will downscale to play in 1080i so no worries there. I just got a PS3 but still need cables. I will use it mainly as a BR player and only buy games incoded in 1080i/p. The game maker has to make it playable in 1080i/p for it to work on our "outdated', non-720p displays.

Hmmm, after rethinking it, I think you might be right... Well, that doesn't make any sense... I'm not here trying to spew my own bias, but please listen me out: Even if the BR discs are getting output at 1080p/1080i to my TV, they look entirely lackluster. I have a pretty discerning eye, and I'm not impressed at all by the two movies I own on BR (XMen 3 and Talladega Nights). I have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI to a 46" Toshiba HD RPCRT Widescreen (46H84), and the movies honestly don't look any better than the DVDs I watch on either my upscaling DVD player, or when they're upscaled on my X360 that's connected to the same TV via component cables. I have both the High Def-only X360 and my Dish 811 HD receiver to compare to, and the PS3's BR movies don't impress.

I'm not trying to be an "eliteist" by any means, but I'd say that I'm giving pretty fair impressions here, as I've been on HD since 2000.

Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is a GREAT system. I personally can't wait for titles like MGS4, DMC4, GT5, KH3, and FFXIII. That's not even the tip of the iceberg, either. Plus the system is sexay looking, has free online, a user-replacable HDD, and four USB ports for future expansion. In addition, I suppose that it also has that BR player built in, but I'm not super impressed by it. Maybe I'll buy a few more (like Mission Impossible III, as that supposedly has the best picture quality out of most BR titles), to give a better gauge to myself.

Hope that helps!

As for that shelf, my mom bought it at Target for me several years ago. It's just a simple metal wire "cubicle stack", and I'm sure it cost no more than $10 or so. I'd just give your Target a look, as I've seen other things like it in the past.

It appears to be one of those black wire mesh CD towers. You can probably pick one up at Wal-Mart for $20, give or take. They're designed for CD's but they're pretty much universal in their uses.

I could be wrong, but it looks about right.
