Stupid 360 n00b question- Live Achievements?

Do you only get these for 360 games? Like say I play Halo 2, theres no achievement points?

Are these just for bragging rights, or do they mean something?
 
completely bragging rights, i guess, not that i can see someone boasting a large gamer score, but more of a way also for you to play the games through and to try to get certain things done, and credited in someway for them. yes only for 360 games.
 
The scores are really a lot more useful on an individual game to game basis. Looking at the overall score really doesn't say much.
