Ok, I recently bought MGS3 Snake Eater from a fellow CAG and the disc was in mint condition. I just started playing it today, and while Snake is talking on the transmission thing, the girl, when talking, it like kinda stops and pauses for a second. Is this normal? Or is my disc scratched?

Also, could this happen. The disc was scratched to begin with, the guy had it resurfaced (so it looks mint) and it acts as if its scrathed? Because if so, I'll be leaving a big fat negative on his feedback ;)

If he told you the disc was scratched and that he resurfaced it, it's a risk you take in buying it. In my opinion, the seller did nothing wrong. Does the game play fine otherwise?

On a happier note. I got MSG 3 Subsistence. I have never played MSG 3 before at all Iam pretty excited.

Congratulations. I held off playing MGS3 until Subsistence came out, as well. It was definitely worth the wait! And I'm glad I pre-ordered the Limited Edition copy. :D

Wow, i cant believe you dont know that this is a real common issue with the original version of MGS 3.

Seriously, it happens to every copy.

i beleive the reasoning has to go hand in hand with the fact the ps2 doesnt have enough ram to handle the streaming audio and the more advanced codec conversations going on. So the pauses are the ram being dumped and reloaded to make it doable.

I agree.

To all of you who have just started playing. First playthrough, tranq all the bosses for the secret camos (Volgin's is the best). Second playthrough get Stealth and Infinity Facepaint.

Stealth will blow your mind. I got it through frogs, No alerts was too hard, and no kills would've been easy if I tried.

Damn, you figured it out! Right before I shipped it to you, I decided to pass some sand paper over the disc, use it as a coaster, and practice my discus throwing.......then had it professionally resurfaced.

Didn't happen to mine.

What is so advanced about the codec conversations compared to MGS2? MGS2 not only used 3D models in its conversations but it didn't skip in any way I could recall. Or even compared to MGS1, on PS1 which hass less RAM, and also 2D imaging in its codec conversations, which also didn't skip.

Actually you have to hold up The End to get his camo. If you just tranq him you get his gun, the tranq sniper rifle.

You have to get no alerts AND no kills. It's not one or the other. How does stealth "blow your mind?"

It was just a pause for dramatic effect. MGS3 is a very cinematic game like that. Also when the framerate drops it symbolizes snakes concentration and angst.

I dont know what to believe now, one says it happens to every copy, another says it never happened to his.

I just finished doing a fully ps2 system clean and well it hasnt skipped or paused or anything like that.

Heeheeheehee!

It happens in some copies of the game. It happened in mine, but doesn't happen in my copy of Subsistance. I've also had other people who owned the original MGS3 tell me it happens to them.

Well yeah, I meant both, came out wrong. And by blow your mind, I mean it's awesome, a combo of Stealth and Spirit equals basically a ghost.

Yeah, The End's camo wasn't ever really useful for me.........his sniper rifle was good for tranqing The Fury though.

Ok, I have a problem with subsistence too. When I go into first person and look around really fast I get little lines of screen tears across the middle of the screen. Anyone else?

Well I restarted the game, and it happened but not in the same place, it was when "Tom" is talking to Snake to get his backpack. He goes "Huh" and it kinds glitch/pauses there. I'm gonna go re-buy it :(

Think you could restart and see if it pauses where mine does? I dont want to go out and buy it again only to find out it still pauses.

I've had that happen to a disc fresh out of the package when I played it. Some of the codec screens took forever to load up and sometimes long pauses would come out of nowhere. I think it's normal. I wouldn't worry about leaving anyone negative feedback.
Just go buy Subsistence for $30. Well worth every penny.

I think it happened once or twice when I played it. Dont worry about it, I'm pretty sure you arent the only one to have that problem.

It sounds like a very minor quibble. The game plays right and it never gets stuck, right? Sony PS2 DVD drives aren't all made equal and many have failed completely. I honestly don't think the disc is at fault. Because the problem seems to be random, I think it's more PS2-related than disc. Try the disc in another PS2 and see if it recurs.

Yeah, The End's camo wasn't ever really useful for me

There are a few places where his camo gives you 100% index which no other camou in the game can boast.

Try duplicating the problem in another PS2. If it recurs you know it's the disc. Although, this type of problem tends to be a hardware malfunction.
