Suggestions for a $2000 or less gaming laptop?

CAGiversary!
I'm heading off to university in the fall and I'm looking for a decent 15" gaming laptop for under $2000.
I've never owned a laptop before, so any suggestions for good brands would be appreciated.

Is there a specific reason you want a laptop?
You can build a desktop with the specs of a $2000 computer for a fraction of the cost, probably around half...which means for $2000 you can get a desktop twice as powerful, maybe even more because.

The reason I push desktops is because it's just so expensive to have a gaming laptop, and you're unable to upgrade it in any meaningful way.

I'll be going to Japan for college, and be there most of the year. I really want something portable so I can take it to class, but also game on it.
Thanks GBman, I'll consider that, but I'd rather get a 15" so its a little lighter.
I saw this Asus on Newegg, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220279
Anyone have experience with Asus laptops, or with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 365 card?
Asus have some pretty good notebooks.
The 9500m in that notebook from newegg is the exact same as the 8600m, which is to say its only ok at gaming. It really depends on what you mean by gaming and what kind of performance your used to I guess.
I actually meant to post this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220306
I haven't had an ATI card in a while. I don't need something that will run crysis on high, but I'd like something that could get good FPS on valve games, and mabye age of conan.
ATI has been lagging behind Nvidia so I'd go for an 8800 if possible. I swear I read something about the 8800GT turning mobile too, but I can't confirm it.

That's a pretty badass CPU though, crimony.

Also, try to find a laptop with a 1920 x 1200 screen...it'll be worth it
