I hope someone can take advantage of this and it is in fact in stock. I was just plugging in ZIP's at random looking for copies at retail and each of the previous locations claimed 1-3 in stock.

You want to find any more, look em up! Just thought I'd throw this out there. Given how rare this game is supposed to be seems like there's a fair amount of them out there. Unfortunately none within 50 miles of me today which is okay, I have a mint gem one and I was just looking to eBay it anyways.

The trouble is that sometimes the online search isn't so reliable. I've look at a few stores where it was supposedly in stock and came up with nothing. Best to call before taking a little road trip.

Won't disagree with the make a phone call. Their online inventory may take a week to update if it's been sold. They will hold it for you if you call though.

This has been discussed in other threads but they often will hoard a game like this in the "employee drawer". The inventory may show it, but they'll say it's not there.

I actually went to this one a couple of weekends ago when I was doing a local search on GS's site. Sadly, they didn't actually have one which I think will be the case w/ most of those stores listed:( Definitely worth a shot though if you live relatively close to one.

Actually, the online update takes longer than a week -- I called a Gamestop a while back about the game, and the clerk told me he'd sold the game nearly two months before and he was getting calls every few days about it.

It's not very reliable at all ... which means it's possible some of the stores that aren't listed might have gotten a copy since the last update.
yikes!!
If you have the discount card, $54 for a game that costs $100+ on eBay is a fine deal IMHO. Certainly isn't cheap ass, though. ;)

Actually, it updates every week... if you look up new release games the day after they come out, the stock is updated.

I know someone who works in GS, he says sometimes it gets scanned out wrong, or shipped back because of defects and dosen't leave the system properly.

I'd say on the whole that the system is 80% reliable.

Believe it or not I was just searching for other games on Gamestop.com and found what a the store manager described as a "Just about new, with perfect discs, perfect instruction book with warranty card and complete case....."

What game? Valkyrie Profile. It's 160 miles away from me and they're shipping it to the nearest Gamestop for nothing and selling it for $37.99 which is the website price. I just checked the going rate on eBay and complete ones are on Buy It Now's for like $110-120.

Say what you want about Gamestop but their website and customer service on getting impossible to find games is incredible. I've called a store in Colorado (In that case Rhapsody.) and they've shipped stuff to me. Being able to search within 200 miles of a major city is awesome. If you center in on midtown Manhattan's ZIP code you get search results for every Gamestop between Boston and Baltimore and that's a boatload of stores.

Re: calling, it depends how much of a trek it is to the store, but generally, I wouldn't do it. I've never found GS employees to be particularly helpful when it comes to PSX games, but that has a lot to do with their system of organizing the PSX games (which is, just dump them in a bin), and the fact that so many of them are disc only that one has to examine each disc to find out what it is. During the B2G1, I went to a GS that was supposed to have DDR Disney Mix according to their website. I started digging through the PSX bin, and an employee eagerly asked "Can I help you?" I told him I was looking for DDR Disney Mix, because the website listed it at their store, and he replied "Oh, well, if we have it, it's in there (pointing to the bin through which I was already searching)". "Gosh, thanks" (no, I didn't actually say it).

If you call, they will probably either tell you they don't know, or will think "Wow, do we have that, I can't believe I missed it", will tell you they don't know, and then will dig for it for themselves. I don't expect any of them to dig for it for a customer on the phone, so unless they already know they have it, and don't want it for themselves, calling won't help.

And I did find Disney Mix, disc only, but I bought it anyway.

Edit: Of course, YMMV if you live in Pittsburgh and post a few seconds before I do.

You know it's funny that you mention the Disney DDR I also got that through Gamestop.com's ZIP locator too. That has been my most prized find this year, well one of them with the VP I just ordered. I got a complete one perfect everything for what, $30? They're also going on eBay for $100+. It's by far the worst DDR game out in this country just based on the fact that it only has 20 tracks but you know.... collection nerds like me only care about the rarity and having every DDR version.

I know many here are saying they've had bad or spotty luck with this service but I've picked up the Disney DDR, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden I & II (2 copies of each at the same store on the B2G1 sale too!), Final Fantasy Anthology and Chronicles both non-GH versions. I think it's the best thing going for collection purposes.

This has to be the case with the Federal Way, WA one because that store has had it "in-stock" for a few months now and if you call, the employees just laugh at you and say, "of course it's we don't have that douche." Well, they don't exactly say that, but they are jerks about it and won't look it up on the computer, so. Save your breath on that one.

They pop up at Gamestops more often than I ever thought imaginable, so if you are looking for one, use the Gamestop search! It has worked for me many times and $50-$60 is much better than $100+ on eBay! ^_^

Yeah, I would assume that if you called every one of those stores you MIGHT get one or two that say they have it.

This is not true. When I had my copy of Gitaroo Man transferred to a local store it was not listed online the day before they received it, then showed up the day they got it. The day after I bought it from them it did not show up online.

I was under the impression that Gamestop didn't ship games from stores to other stores.

Explain how you did it please. :)

I asked my local GS about this, and either the guy had no idea what "shipping a game up from Tacoma" means or he meant it when he told me they do not do that. Please tell me it's the first one, that would kick so much ass!!! ^__^

That's how I got a mint copy of Valkyrie Profile (I befreinded the employees, someone traded in VP MINT!!! and the guy behind him was like. I'll buy it! and they said they had to send it out. Then they put it behind the counter in the drawer for me.)

Praytell what computer you'd like them to look up on? The one that tells you the price? There's no way to know if a store has a game other than physically locating it. And, as mentioned before, the PSX games are thrown together in a big bin without any order.

Thanks PAD (all political leanings aside :))! I drove about 30 mins, and scored Suikoden 1 & 2 (both in great shape and complete!) for under a hundred bucks. Thank you kindly, sir.

In the past I've had copies of Rhapsody, Gitaroo Man, RE2/3 and Cubivore shipped from other stores. You have to ok it with both the store who will be sending and the store that is receiving. They will also have to contact their district managers and make sure they can do it.

The Gamestop online inventory is sometimes useful, but don't count on it. If the game is mistakenly listed in inventory it will show up as being in stock until the manager does the full store inventory (happened like twice a year back when I worked there several years ago). A game could get swiped by thieves, accidentally put into the system twice, accidentally put in period...

As for my local stores, there's one which has claimed to have a copy of both Valkyrie Profile and Persona 2 for months... I've scoured the store and asked the employees, and those two simply aren't there. Whether you choose to call (and possibly alert a selfish employee to a rare find) or not, the online inventory is far from 100% accurate...

you know, if some of you are really considering driving 100 miles round trip for this game, jsut to buy it for $60 + tax, you might be better offf just buying it off of ebay(disc only can be about 60 to 80 on ebay anyways) ironically i am selling my suiky 2 on ebay right now. auction ends on sunday(freeship for cagers)

A gamestop about 30 mins from me has Persona 2 but disc only for $19.99 =(

If I wasnt so picky about having games complete I'd buy it.

Great thread idea PittsburghAfterDark. I'm gonna call the one in Lilburn tomorrow. Maybe they can ship it up to here or I can drive down there.

The SII at Target Center El Cajon, CA was gone weeks ago. They haven't updated it. I went there the first day U saw it on gamestop's game locator (I check SII at gamestop.com every few days) and an employee already had it on reserve.

However, I did pick up SII just yesterday. Called them up, they said they had it, I put it on hold. Funny, the guy was like "So what's so special about this game?" I said that it goes for up to $200 on ebay, and the guys face just lit up, plus another employee and a customer were like wtf?

Great find for me.. anyway, if you want to find SII, use your game locator at gamestop.com every day or few and see if it comes up. If you see it.. you best jump on it. It's $59.99 now, not $49.99.

The Towne Crossing Gamestop in Midlothian, VA always has some decent stuff. I picked up Klonoa there for 15 bucks.

That store was awesome back when you could still get Saturn games and it was FuncoLand.

The copy I picked up was in good condition by the way.. the game had some light scratches, cd case is worn out, but that can be replaced. The instructions were in excellent condition, though.

And like someone said, the game locator on gamestop.com isn't reliable. You should check every day or few to see if it pops up. If it shows 1 - 3 at a gamestop were it was previously 0, then they have it (or had it, if someone grabbed or reserved it right away)

I have found that if they have to send a game back to main distribution because it is defective, it stays on the computer and doesn't go away. This happened with a Suikoden II I was looking for (guy said they got it, but it didn't work so they shipped it back) and a Skull Monkeys.

Same story from both stores (different ones) and both still show up as having the respective games.
Actually, it updates every week... if you look up new release games the day after they come out, the stock is updated.

Is it weekly? I always thought it was much quicker and that the employees were feeding me a line of BS. I know a couple of times I have found a game where the online system listed a single copy, I went to the store, bought it, came home and checked the next day, and it was no longer listed. Might depend on the stores, but it seems to be pretty much consistantly right.

I do think, especially in the case of VP or Suikoden II, that employees are having them held. I went to one of the GS that has it a few weeks ago (Saratoga Springs NY) and was told it had been sold that morning, without the guy even checking for it...fishy.

I used to check GS's website daily for Suiko 2. Every time something shows up within 50 miles I'd call and they'll either tell me the game's in real bad shape or that they don't have it. It's major YMMV. Took me nearly a year before I found a store that admitted to having a copy in stock, but it was lightly scratched and disc only. I got so fed up of looking for it I just bought the damn disc anyway. Luckily it seems to play OK.

Hate to ruin your day pal, but I bought Suikoden 1 & 2 at the Lilburn store yesterday...
Sorry!

They acted like it was normal procedure, sorry for the delay BTW, you call the store where the item is and tell them you'd like it transferred to your location. Obviously you should have the store address and phone number. When I started telling the manager the phone number she identified it as "Store ###" and I said yeah, that's it. They won't ship it to you personally and won't take a credit card number over the phone, I've tried.

So they ship a UPS ground package to whatever location closest to you. I've never had problems with it though I've only done it three times.

the inventory search is sketchy, but ya never know...found Gitaroo Man this way.
