Nintendo probably made just about the right number. They didn't want any sitting on store shelves so that people will believe them next time they say "limited."
On the other hand Nintendo is leaving a ton of money on the table by making this "limited." I can't tell you how many people I've had ask for this since release at where I work and all I can tell them is Nintendo made the decision to make this "limited." Horrible decision by Nintendo to make a title that was obviously going to be a big seller "limited" like this.

Welcome to business in this day and age. It's positively disgusting.

On the other hand, it probably only sold like it did because it was limited. I know that if it hadn't been limited, it wouldn't have been a day-one buy for me. I'd have picked it up eventually, probably, when I found a good price on it, but then again, maybe I'd have never gotten around to it. The "limited" status was a definite push for me and I'm sure many others during a time when a lot of hot new titles were being released.

Also, from the way I'm sure Nintendo looks at it, all of these titles are available on the Wii Shop Channel for download as well -- and they'd rather sell it to you that way, as it cuts out the middle-men and keeps the price static at MSRP (unless you find a deal on points). Offering it on disc with the extra book and soundtrack was a way to (halfheartedly, in my opinion) celebrate the anniversary of the games, but it's not the long-term sales strategy for them.
That's a really good point. I have almost NO faith in any claim of short print runs, etc because nearly every high-dollar game these days gets a reprint (and either I'm completely out of the loop - fairly likely - or they do it quietly and don't announce it).

However, Nintendo HAS done short runs of Zelda DS Lite, etc and apparently been faithful not to reprint those. The notion that they would not reprint this game to maintain their credibility for future "Limited Editions" is also a really good point. I had planned to monitor this release closely for that reason. Also wondering if the "Limited Edition Red Mario Wii" is actually limited or not...

I also have to applaud Confoosious for his astute observation. :applause: One of the biggest reasons I came back to this thread today was to see what all the haters had to say for themselves about the scarcity of this game. I checked out this thread about 5 days before the game released and there were quite a few people on here that were all-too-happy to mock anybody who wanted to buy the game and ESPECIALLY anybody who thought the game was going to be difficult to find and/or rise in value.
yeah i was saying the same thing in a post in this thread like a day ago.

but my post got deleted because the people who didnt buy one would have been butt hurt.
so where are all the people that said this game would be easy to find?

cause it's not.
Yep, I follow these trends, I can see this shit coming a mile away and have time and time again...yet I told everyone it would be hard to find and and everyone said "noooo it wont and it will be worth barely more than you paid for it."

fuck you all, I told you so.

Looking at completed auctions on eBay, there are still a ton ending at 30-40.00 and some not even selling.

I do think it's funny how Gamestop wont even let you search for it

P.S. I sent my youngest to college with my profit from hoarding this game.

lol.

nice job counting the ones that sold like the first two weeks.

a copy hasnt sold for under $60 today, probably hasnt sold for under $60 in over a week.

No, it hasn't, some people are still grasping at straws to prove their point.

Also, no one's "sending their kids to college" or "buying a beach house" flipping games, and it's a stupid comment to make, but some people are doubling their weekly salary by doing relatively little work.

If you sell it for 60.00, and take into account PayPal fees, eBay fees, gas, time...you're making what, 20.00?

I make more than that per hour at work. I had 5-6 opportunities to buy a bunch of these and it's not worth the time.

Now I get to wait for people to say Im sour because I didn't buy them up

What you're trying to do is equate 1 hour of work to flipping one SMAS. It doesn't really work that way, unless it took you one full hour of work to flip one SMAS.

I found a Gamestop with 4 of these in stock today. Apparently, they are holding the games for the people that fully preordered them. Stupid business decision imo, but whatever. Those people have had long enough to pick up their games. No need to hold onto them any longer.

Apparently your hourly wage has no intelligence prerequisites since your logic was nothing short of retarded. You might be surprised to realize that people can work regular jobs and sell things on ebay at the same time. This is mind blowing for you I know, have a seat and think it through, then facepalm yourself for realizing you said something so damn stupid.

Seriously though, if you have 10 copies, it takes 5 minutes to list a "quantity of 10" listing. Then you just box em up and send em out as they sell, barely any work, loads of profit. Some people are just idiots when it comes to this stuff I guess.

100.00 (which is being generous) is "loads" of profit after you take the time to sell 5?

I guess to some people.

Didn't think so many would get offended that this isn't selling for crazy prices.

Also, something doesn't become rare when there are a lot out there, but everyone buys them up to sell. Although, I do find it funny GS won't let me search their stock. As of a week before Christmas, 6 Gamestops within a few miles had it in stock.

Something funny/of note: There may be a hint on the game itself that this will be reissued as a standard edition at some point. Look at the barcode on the outer box and the one on the actual game case. They are not the same number.

Yeah, to people who don't have an awesome job like you. (That's what you've been wanting to hear since you posted how much you make, right?)

Not really, no. And I didn't post how much I make either. I was simply saying I could make more just working than buying up copies of Mario Allstars and making a 20.00 profit on each sold.
Not really, no. And I didn't post how much I make either. I was simply saying I could make more just working than buying up copies of Mario Allstars and making a 20.00 profit on each sold.
Again you fail to realize that you could do both. Are you saying you wouldn't like an EXTRA $100 in your pocket in addition to your salary? It's not like it's much work to sell 5 copies on ebay dude, it's pretty much all automated

1.) Buy 5 copies online with 3 or 4 clicks (20 seconds or less)
2.) Post on ebay in 2 minutes or less
3.) print off a shipping label for each (5 minutes at most)
4.) Drop them in the post office or in a mail box

So that's less than 10 minutes total that can be done in your SPARE TIME that will net you $100. If you bought more copies, even better. Can you grasp that it's not either or?
Nah, in my free time I like to relax. Sorry.
Yet you've spent well over 10 minutes trolling this thread. Maybe your idea of relaxing includes posting links of completed ebay auctions? Hilarious. I won't feed you any more after this post.

How is it trolling to correct someone when they say it probably hasn't sold under 60.00 in a week, and stating I don't find the profits to be that great?

And I had to post the links, I hate when people make statements they can't back up.

You calling me mentally retarded because I don't see the point in flipping these, that's not trolling at all :)

People need to not bicker so much when a viewpoint is different from theirs. It's almost like some of you find it offensive I don't think it's worth flipping.

I said your logic was retarded, which it is. Do you still think it's either working a job or selling things on ebay? If so, then you are retarded.

No, not trolling. Good thing I don't get offended by message board people, but it's kind of sad you have to result to verbal insults instead of just having a conversation.

Some "lady" scooped up a copy of SMAS that another GS store had called to reserve for me during my lunch.
The clerks asked her if she was coming from "x" location. She said she yes.
When I showed up (minutes later), I mentioned that I was coming from "x" store and they were like "She lied!"...
Craziness.
Luckily for me, they had an extra copy though.
Now to decide whether or not to break the seal...
first people are arguing about how this game will/wont be sold out now you guys are arguing about profiting?

wow lol
A good portion of this thread was dedicated to speculating on whether these will fetch a higher value after they're sold out so it's an inevitable transition now that they are. I only bought one extra copy which I was going to return, but gladly sold on ebay for $70 instead. I think it's just idiotic logic to try and brag about how you're making more than $20 an hour like that has jack shit to do with selling something on ebay. It's not one or the other.
So you refuse to answer the question?

I'll repeat it;

Do you still think it's either working a job or selling things on ebay?
For me? Yes.

That's pretty sad actually. I'll just leave it at that.
I could resort to calling you a retard for not understanding human behavior, but I'll let that slide because there are a lot of people who don't :0)

Calm down though, it's really not a big deal, it's relevant, remember?

once again, im paying for my life through flipping games.

if you dont think doubling your profit off a game(i paid 25 per copy and im netting about 30-40 profit off these after fees/shipping) is pointless, then im sorry, youre more retarded than me making a stupid statement about these probably not selling for less than XX.xx.

either way, this set is worth at least $60. if you pay lower youre getting a good deal.

if you think otherwise, then LOL.

all these posts are going to be deleted anyways.

So you make 2,000.00 + a month, flipping games. Please, I'd love to see the breakdown of that.

I'm not mocking you at all, I'm being sincere.

Just to put it in perspective, you'd have to sell 50 copies of Mario, netting you 40.00 in profit for each, which is being REALLY generous.

Just take December, post up what you've flipped and how you made 2,000.00+

battle.jpg

lol.

not sure i really wanna take the time to do that.

come out here thursday, saturday, and friday and see some of the stuff i get from the flea market.

also, go on the florida craigslist and see some of the stuff they put up.

you can also look at some of my ebay/amazon/cag items.

i sit in front of ebay and craiglist all day refreshing.

every now and then i flip the shitty things i get throughout the month(mediocre cart based games, manuals, cases, cheap stuff ebay will rape me in fees for) to this old guy Sam at the Swap Shop(i did it about a month ago and walked away with a little over $75). He has a shop that only sells video games, and surprisingly he does really well. the illegals have no idea that they could be paying $5 for that copy of super mario world, as opposed to the $25 their paying him.

december was a decent month i guess(i was really lazy).

i barely cleared the 2300 mark(ill admit, i had another income source, but it only netted me around 600 for the month of december).

nice...I wish I can do that. I flip games on ebay and anything I can make money on as a hobby(wife hates it). I bought 50 copies of this game just for kicks and it has paid off. I was thinking that the least it would sell for is retail if I was wrong. Just curious though...what do you find at the flea market? I only see overpriced crap.

Nah son, put your money :)lol:) where your mouth is. Give me the December 1,700.00 breakdown.

Plus, I'm guessing you barely eat, pay for gas, phone bills, etc. since 2,300.00 is a little more than what you need for your basic bills, right?

I'd say if you're smart, it's easy to make a few hundred bucks on ebay just by browsing CAG and SD. I'm not much of a flipper, but if I see an opportunity I'll take it.

So for instance, I was lucky to be on SD when they posted the deal for a 360 Tron controller that's limited to 250. I got it for $43 shipped, and sold it for $199 on ebay. About a $130 profit for a few mins of work. They're selling for higher than that too, I just played it safe. Some at SD got at least 4 of them. That's $500+ profit right there for those flippers

The regular Tron controller is available at gamestop for $39.99 with the code ACC20. They sell on ebay for $90 pretty consistently. That's roughly a $30 profit per controller after fees and shipping.

Tron on UMD is available at Amazon for $9.99, you can sell it for $30 on ebay.

The season set "Ancient Aliens" is selling on Amazon for $3.75, it goes on ebay for $15-20

These are just random examples of things I see on SD/CAG from day to day. There are plenty of opportunities to make a few bucks. Obviously not every flip will be highly profitable, but they can add up to a good amount with very minimal work

So 4 Tron controllers would be 520.00
Another regular controller brings you up to 550.00
You can make another 15 or so with the UMD (565.00)
10.00 for something called Ancient Aliens (575.00)

So you still need to hit about 1,500 more dollars for someone like Stripes to even live, and those 4 tron controllers are the exception, not the norm. Imagine if they weren't in the mix? You suddenly drop down to 55.00. That's it.

This is why I want a simple breakdown of what he sold, it shouldn't be that hard, right?

Like I said, those are random examples. I could post many more flips that would add up to $2000, but that wasn't my goal. It's a simple point. Browse SD there's plenty of opportunities.

I don't know why you somehow think the limit is "1" for each of those items. If someone is in the business of flipping they'd obviously buy a bunch of them. I mean I could buy 10-20 of the regular cntrollers right now, that's $300-600 there. 30 of the Tron UMD's, that's another $450 and so forth. Buying 1 of something when you intend to flip is just silly.

Just leave the guy alone WHO CARES, honestly what is it going to prove. Lets us just unzip are pants and see who has the biggest one.

I'm glad you guys aren't in research :0(

See, when you make a claim, you have to back it up, otherwise, you can say whatever you want.

I can control people's minds.

Bold statement, right? But I can't run around saying, you have to prove me wrong! No, I made the claim, I need to provide evidence I can do it.

Skiizim, it's not a contest, but a test of validity.

heres some stuff ive found/sold recently(sorry i dont have receipts, LOL) :

xbox 360 controller $3 sold for $25
earthbound $5 sold for $65(after fees)(was a couple months ago, but man was i happy)
red dead redemption $10 sold for $25
sega nomad $5 sold for $30
super mario allstars $25 sold 2 for $65 about to sell 1 for $75
kirbys superstar paid $2 sold for $30(just now)
mario party 2 $2 sold for $21
zelda wind waker $1 sold for $11
punkmaggit lowball stuff $183 $255(kept most of the stuff)
metro 2033 $20 sold for $35
tatsunoko vs capcom free sold for $22

these are all(save for earthbound) from last month(and thats not even a 20th of what i sold/made).

i really dont feel like humoring some asshole, so thats all im gonna post.

im living the dream guy, dont be mad at me because i get sucked up every night and then get to go treasure hunting when i wake up every day.

its nice, but man, them haters will hate.

That tron controller is pretty cool, I didn't even know they made something like that. Do the blue/orange stripes light up?

Just from experience, people that brag about how much money really don't have that much to begin with. I could go on and brag and say "hey I have a job that pays me over $75,000 over $100,000 if I decide to put the over time in" but I don't I just keep it to myself.
