Super Princess Peach

I'd buy this if my girlfriend wasn't going to be getting it. That's the best part about my girlfriend having a DS - now I don't have to buy all the good games myself.

At least until she dumps you and takes half of your games. ;)

I can't find the main website for the game, but lasty time i checked on it it let design your own princess peach super pink magazine with frills and all... looks like a fun game, but nothing too deep.

It's Princess Peach of the Toadstools. Her name was always Peach in Japan, but they changed her name here to Toadstool. Mario64 was the first time she called herself Peach in the US, on the note sent to Mario. She is indeed the same person. It's like Bowser and Koopa, same person. Bowser, King of the Koopas.

Daisy is not the female in distress in Donkey Kong. That is Pauline.

Daisy was the princess from Super Mario Land for the original Gameboy. They decided to bring her back, so Luigi would have his princess like Mario has Peach.

Eggman and Robotnik are the same person in the videogame world, but I think I read somewhere that in the comic books Eggman is a different persona or character, who is much more evil than Robotnik. I'm not sure about this one, but who knows perhaps it's another persona of Robotnik influxed with true desire to kill and destroy and not the Robotnik/Eggman we normally see in the game and show who is clumsy.

But does it provide any sort of challenge, or is it a cake walk the whole time?

yeah I never had N64 so I donno about it like that...

but like how do they do it??

like one day she is called Toadstool and then do they explain that now she's called Peach??

or do they straight up change the name without any warning??

coz I mean, a lot of ppl should have been confused tho.
But does it provide any sort of challenge, or is it a cake walk the whole time?
It's really easy. You never really die in the game because peach has the ability to heal herself. You could plow right through the game in about 4 or so hours. Although short the game is really fun a la super mario world 2. I wish they'd made the boss fights harder though especially bowzer:bomb:

I thought SMW2 was one of the longer Mario games...

The game is fantastic!

I bought it at launch here in Japan and loved every minute of it!

It felt like a sequel to Yoshi's Island to me. The game is quite easy in the beginning, but getting some of the secret items in the later stages got to be quite hard.

Peach's different powers are all pretty cool (except the "calm" one, I don't think I ever used that one...) and keep the game fresh IMO.

Unfortunately, I gave my copy of the game to my (now ex) girlfriend last fall....D'OH!

But now I have an excuse to get the US version (besides being able to understand ALL of the story, haha!)! :D

So I was just wondering...where does Pauline come from all of this.

On another note IGN seems to be giving out pretty high scores to lots of games in the past years as of late. Seems they grade too easy, or don't really give credit where it's due. I myself don't listen to IGN. I'm not sure, but I think Gamespot grades much more tougher than they do. Anyway, I'll plan to pick it up when I get my DS Lite. Hope it's dope.

The name Peach in the US was first used in Yoshi's Safari.
You could make an arguement that Eggman is a self appointed nick name. Gerald Robotnik is the name of his grandfather-- I can't remember if this was in Sonic Adventure 2 or Sonic X... also most of the board machines in Sonic Riders are made by "Robotnik, inc." Eggman was also called Robotnik in the comic until the Doomsday series of comics. Robotnik got trapped in the nexus, and only was able to briefly to return. Just before the Doomsday series, there was a Robotnik from an alternative universe named Robo-Robotnik who had robotized himself and appeared in the comic's universe, looking to impose all of the destruction he had acheived in his own universe. He tried to fuck shit up, but was defeated, his powerful weapon he had tried to use destorying him. But he had uploaded his spirit to a computer in a space station and lived on, soon giving birth again to Eggman. And that's all I remember. XD An interesting, and more deeper story than Sonic Team's.

I've found that averaging Gamespot's scores and IGN's scores provide a good score to go by...or you can always just look at gamerankings.com and see what everyone esays.

Or even better you could read impressions, then decide yourself about the game. Amazing how many great games I've found by following what I think is good rather than some stranger's opinion.

Forgive this old man for changing the subject yet again, but what is this "XD" mean? People keep using it in AC:WW Wi-Fi discussions (where space is limited) and now I just saw it here and cannot for the life of me figure it out from context :D. Like I'll make some snarky comment, and I'll get back "XD : )" as a response. I just don't know what to say after that.

I've been on the Internets for 20 years but have never been a chat room person, so I've missed all the etiquette. #-o

Oh, and back on topic, I preordered this game at GR as soon as they added it to the preorder list. I thought the IGN article was a little insulting to girl gamers, actually, though it was overall a fairly positive review.
Games that are made specifically for girls probably often fail. Now games that are made for EVERYONE that includes girls, thats ok.

oh my god, he used the word 'kiddie'

Is it really in a pink box? I heard that Walmart or one of the major retailers wont carry things in pink boxes
 you said pink box

Never used it myself, but it's some sort of smiley.

I think I'll be preordering this tonight if my Chibi Robo is in.

I watched videos of this game on IGN snd it seemed like the game was graphically on par with the GBA Mario games. It also looked like it played slow and floaty. Not that graphics mean everything, but I don't see myself putting down 35 bones on this.

But the graphics on the GBA Mario games rule!

I could have sword Princess Toadstool signed all her letters to mario as Peach in Super Mario Brothers 3...didnt she?

oh and about XD

X = >< (eyes)
D = mouth

it means something is funny

Well, I figured it was something else given that I often see it followed by the regular smiley : ) (put the space in so CAG doesn't convert it to :)). I thought it might be an acronym for something! If all it is is another smiley that's kind of disappointing :bouncy:.

I just d/led a few of the videos to comment...

What the hell is the bottom screen used for? 90% of the time, the Princess just stares at you, and she might sway robot-like.

C'mon Nintendo, Sonic Rush used both screens, would that be too complex for 'girls'? I don't think so...

You touch the 4 areas AROUND Peach to change her emotion.
Each one gives you different abilities:

Sad: Run REALLY fast and cry (comes into play in a REALLY cool boss fight)
Anger: Peach is on fire. Burn stuff and kill enemies by touching 'em.
Bliss (?): Peach can fly to reach high areas
Calm (?): I never used this one b/c I wasn't sure what it did, but I guess it lets you regain health? Or maybe its a shield or something?

Peach's emotion is also reflected in the animation on the touch screen. Its pretty cool IMO....

7.8

Presentation
It's a good and fun game design that downplays a lot of the DS creativity. It's biggest problem is that the meat of the game could have been done on GBA.

Graphics
The developers purposely held Princess Peach back into the old-school. Bright and colorful, but very conservative in processing.

Sound
The game definitely sounds like a Mario-style game with its soundtrack accomodating the action. The highpitched, gleeful princess voice may seem grating at first, but eventually it fits.

Gameplay
Nintendo's platformer experience shows through in this original design. The levels are fun but lack some of the more creative layouts of past Mario games. And this game is what we'd call "easy."

Lasting Appeal
Its difficulty level doesn't give this platformer a whole lot of lengthy challenge, but the purchasable mini-games extend the play a bit further.

Overall Score: 7.8

===============================================

Sounds like another Yoshi Touch & Go. I might still pick it up. :)

Am I the only one that thinks that if all the Peach stuff was swapped out for Mario stuff but was otherwise the same, it would've scored 9+?

I'm sure I'll be picking this up anyway. I might wait for a price drop or to buy it used, though.

I was just wondering if anyone else got there's today and what their impressions are. I played a little bit and, yes it's kind of easy. However, it's a hell of a lot of fun and her emotional states are quite humorous. For $12, I can't be happier. I would've paid the $34 for it, but for those who don't have it, I'd bet that somewhere will have it for $30 before too long.

$12?

I didn't even know it was out today, I thought it came out tomorrow (I'm going to try and get it at Target tomorrow).

How'd ya get it for 12 bucks?

I picked it up today as well. It is pretty fun, and doesn't bother me if it's on the easy side. When it comes to portable gaming I'm not really looking for a challenge anyway. The game is amusing, and enjoyable. All that matters to me.

Credits :D ! I played through the end of the first world and I have to say I still think it's easy, especially when you read the hint blocks. It is a fun platformer, and it has some interesting touch screen sequences (that you encounter during the first boss level). I also must address this whole "The game is sexist" stigma. Yes, Peach has some wild emotions, but it's part of the story. In fact, she's the only one who has control of her emotions. PCness be damned!

I picked it up just an hour ago, might try it out later tonight. If I decide not to get pissed off at the last mission of Advance Wars again.

I want to pick this up. Does anyone know how long the game is? I don't care if it's easy, but I want to play it for longer than a night.
