Super Puzzle Fighter II TURBO HD Remix 360 *Tournament Died :(

Downloaded it before I went to work. I will be more then up for some matches after 7 tonight. Gamertag = xpag406.

You can also put me down for the tournament...

now now guys, this is the puzzle fighter thread.

but 1200 points in 10 minutes, i was browsing my friends list to see if anyone was playing puzzle fighter, and saw someone playing SoR2 and said "holy shit" and downloaded it right away.

terrible having two great releases in one day. well i got the longest journey achievement... and i dont know what it is about X' Mode but my record is MUCH better in X Mode...

as for the tournament, i put a tentative date in the OP, i think the first one well try the new X' mode, and then sometime after do an X mode. but for now just hold on tight, let people download the game, get familiar with it, and then well set the tourney up soon enough.

one thing i was kinda of sad to see, although kind of suspecting, was the lack of the street puzzle mode and being able to unlock all the extra goodies. i guess the costumes and characters are unlocked already, but im not sure i can live without hearing the words to sakura's hit "i want you to know"

Someone from Japan destroyed me, with his shitty connection power-up.

I have a feeling that might end up being DLC... more like a hope than a feeling, but still.

Bummer, I'll miss those custom victory icons. :whistle2:( Capcom fans can be a pretty vocal lot though... enough complaining and we'll probably get some sort of download update (assuming they haven't already planned this way ahead of time).

That won't be so bad... a few years ago you had to lay out a good $40 or so if you wanted to get your hands on this game for PS1. Heh, I actually got a TON of my friends hooked on Puzzle Fighter back in college. Then they all got pissed when they couldn't find the game in any stores!

Oh shoot, I still gotta try Y and Z mode!

Wow, I completely overlooked the fact that SOR2 dropped as well. What a delightful surprise.

Downloaded the SPF2 demo just moments ago and gave it a couple of play-throughs and while the game is just as awesome as I remembered, one thing stuck out like a sore thumb; the shitty 360 d-pad. Honestly, I'm down dealing with that POS d-pad. time to invest in a hori pad.
everything is hd BUT the characters themselves.... they look like upsampled low res sprites...and are a quite blurry at 1080p. bg's and character art super sharp thanks to udon though!
They're just following tradition. You can't have a Capcom game without a low res. sprite!

Ok I am new to this game.. but like most puzzle games I am loving it. But I read somewhere that there are patterns that you get.. to make your fighter perform a really special move..?

I see the "Gem Pattern" when you select people..but I'm not putting 2 and 2 together.. lol so could someone explain?

Also, I did not know of those 3 "hidden" characters..are there anymore..???

Picked it up, damn I love me some Puzzle Fighter.

Count me in for the tournament, I think I got all of you added. If I didn't, add me and we can play, it'll be easy wins for you.

Edit: The d-pad is terrible, for once I actually prefer analog while playing this. Despite that though, it's still a terrific game. And getting it free made it even sweeter.

I'm not too good, but if anyone wants to play sometime, add me if you want. Enjoyed what I played so far, just need to figure out how to get better.

Yeah. But they're super-low res.

I think they tried blurring them to make them look HD.

Looks like ass.

Also, I did not know of those 3 "hidden" characters..are there anymore..???
The "attack patterns" simply indicate how you drop counter gems onto your opponent's playfield. Like if you drop 5 or 6 gems on your opponent, the color of the gems you drop will correspond to the bottom row of your attack pattern. If you get a really obscene amount of gems in a single attack, you'll probably manage to drop your entire attack pattern on the opponent.

It's hard to explain, but look at Chun Li or Dan's pattern as simple examples. Chun Li's attack pattern is arranged into large square blocks, which is why she can be so hard to use. Even if you pull off a big attack with her, you're basically setting up the opponent for a huge counterattack, since he'll have a bunch of ready-made squares once the counter gems mature into normal gems. And Dan just drops all red no matter how many gems are in the attack, which is why it's such a challenge to win with him. You basically have to build up one HUGE attack that kills your oppponent, otherwise you're just helping him build one huge gem the whole time.

btw if no one knows u can choose 3 extra players, akuma, dan and someone else(forgot her name) in online play and single player, just keep moving down on the character select.

that someone would be Devilot (from cyberbots)

you'd figure i'd be used to upsampled sprites from capcom......but i'm not... now the wait for ssf2thd!

Yeah... Like I do to you all the time!

Anyway, I'll be on about 5:30 today if anyone wants to get in a few games, just send an invite and I'll play...

Oh question: What about Ling-Ling and Anita? Are they still playable?

I think you have to press start on Donovan, Morrigan and Hsien-ko to get anita, bat, and Ling Ling. Isn't there supposed to be a way to get the original graphics? I like the glass cracking instead of the elemental effects.

Gamespot reported their was awhile back, but it looks like they took that feature out of the final version, I wish they hadn't.
Tried playing X' Mode with Dan.

Ho-lee SHIT.
It's good practice!

Any quick tips on how the Y mode works? I assume this one plays more like Puyo Puyo. No crash gems, and it looks like you break blocks by grouping colors together. Although sometimes a group of four gems doesn't seem to break, whereas other times it does... why is that?

Meanwhile, I'm trying Z mode for the first time. Very interesting! Like a variation of Panel De Pon, as Xpag described to me recently.

does anyone know how to play as anita or the bat or the little piece of paper? i know there is a way because i played against the piece of paper and not just hsien ko

Sorry I shot you down earlier Yukine, but I only had the demo.

i'll be pulling an all nighter trying to get the x' achievement with dan, i can feel it.

:edit: finally won match 1 after like 4 tries

btw, count me in for the tourney.

win #2 down

ive got a strategy for getting the wins.. what im thinking is you just build up some gems really high, and don't break them until your opponent is getting up there.. don't do it like right in the begining of the game or your fucked. Wait till you get a handful of bricks together and once your opponent is hurting just bring in the big guns and go in for the kill\

:edit2: i'm at Akuma right now. I'd be better off beating this stage with a fucking blind fold.

:edit3: ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!! thank god.. lol

as for strategy for akuma.. you just gotta throw strategy out the window.. lol.. just keep poundin on him and hope he dosen't use a red orb thing :p

After about 40 minutes of frustration, I got the "The Longest Road" achievement.

I'm going to try for the full 200 tonight (good luck, but still)

I'm at 55 right now. Good stuff.

Did Capcom change everyone's drop patterns for X' mode? I remember Felicia having some 2X2's in her pattern but in X' they are gone.

The Xbox 360 D-Pad is frustrating me greatly with this game. Sometimes it works alright, other times if I move to fast it gets locked in one direction.

yes, X' has different fall patterns, but only for some of the characters. part of the "re-balancing" i suppose, but i dont understand what else is "re-balanced".

the dpad can get annoying, but i think laggy matches are even more annoying.

for those who are interested in the tournament, and there seems to be a good response, check back in about a week (so we can give time for people to download, play etc) and ill post info about signing up, schedule dates, brackets, etc etc.

edit, i havent tested the last 3, but i know the first 3 work...

Akuma - On character select screen press down while on Hsien-Ko
Devilot - On character select screen press right while on Felicia or down while on Morrigan
Dan - On character select screen press down while on Donovan
Morrigan Bat - On character select screen hold LB + RB while on Morrigan
Mei Ling - On character select screen hold LB + RB while on Hsien-Ko
Anita - On character select screen old LB + RB while on Donovan

Had my first lag-happy match a couple hours ago.

My controller almost went through the TV.

I really need to get used to the new graphics (I have trouble distinguishing between crash gems... but anyway

I can confirm the Morrigan Bat, Mei Ling and Anita.

It looks horrible. I loved this game in the arcade and PS1, but between the ultra low-res sprites in the middle, the super sharp sprites elsewhere, and the super distracting explosion animations I just can't bring myself to play this mess. For shame.

I'll be buying the full version tonight (second dip into my bevy of CC xbox points), so if you see me on playing, feel free to invite. This is my first go around with this game, so I'll be a nice easy win for ya.

I was looking forward to trying this game out, but after playing the demo for a good half hour, I just didn't get it. What am I missing?

What's the trick to beating the game with Dan?

Edit: Nevermind. That was easy as Hell. ... but I didn't get an Achievement.

puzzle kombat was flawed for one simple reason: if you had a combo and your opponet had a combo, they both went through. So if your opponet was sending 10 and you sent 7, in puzzle fighter, you would only get 3. But in Kombat both stacks are going through regardles. That's why I found it unplayable on the higher difficulties.
