Super Smash Bros. Brawl Revealed! (PICTURES!)(VIDEO!)(56k!)

If they wrangle in any more 3-rd party characters, they might as well rename this as Super Smash Bros. Captain N Edition.

I signed the petition, and as I noted in the comment box, I think it'd be great to have Reggie be a US-exclusive bonus character via WiiConnect24.

After watching the trailer I don't think the Nintendogs are playable characters. Rather they're an item that blocks the screen.

OH MY GOD YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

fuck the rest of e3, this is all I wanted to hear about! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!
(kidding of course, but still excited as HELL!)

I hope to god that Sonic and at least one other SEGA character make it in!

Hell, toss some Capcom guys in too! Mega Man! STRIDER!

The BELMONTS!

*dies*

I was thinking that too, and it would be cool to use on other players over WFC if it didn't effect you...but why would you ever use that item if you found it when playing with 4 people on one tv? It would hinder you, too...so unless its like a Pokeball, and and the effects are random, there's gotta be more to it.

Not if your that blind guy who plays Mortal Kombat. :)
But seriously, I think it will become a great item for veteran players who know the game.

SNAKKKKKKKKE!!!
woah...then Sonic and the gang isn't tooo far off :D
this is just....no words to describes how happy I am..I've been dreaming for a new SSB!
I am so getting a Wii now.

I dont wish to put a damper on the SSBB love, but one should note that these graphics are just the prerenders that will probably be used to open the game like the intro to SSBM.

I wonder how nice and fluid actual gameplay will look. Those rings on Pit's arm and the bandana on Snake look like they would be rather hard to render on the fly.

Nevertheless, PIT!
Ha, Captain N as a playable character would be funny. He should at least get a background cameo :D
I say they dress up Regie as Captain N so you can play as him!

Um, most of the stuff in this trailer is clearly in-game stuff, dude.

The intro to Melee was mostly pre-rendered, with few seconds of actual in-game graphics used during part of the montage, but this looks to be the opposite: mostly in-game visuals, with a little pre-rendered.

What leads you to that conclsuion of yours?

Edit:
Looking at the whole trailer again, I really believe it's possible that the entire thing is real-time, save for perhaps the fart at the end. Otherwise, it all looks totally possible, given the quality of graphics seen in Super Mario Galaxy, Red Steel, and others.

I doubt any of this trailer was real-time. I dont expect that the game features newcomers randomly dropping into the game. Now its possible the entire trailer was built using the game engine soley, but I doubt it considering the characters make facial expressions and other reactions to other characters showing up.

Note, I never said I was disapointed with what I was seeing, but rather than one should keep in mind this is a trailer, dont be disapointed if in game visuals are a little simpler. In fact, I dont think I would want the action to freeze everytime someone grabbed a SSB emblem to do a super attack.

Actually, I think it is real time (game assets, environments, effects, etc.)

This is what it says on the official site:

We made a movie!
No explanation necessary. Just take a look at it!

...I don't suppose I've gone too far, have I?
Well, this is the kind of game it is. Sorry.

Please note that these game screens are still in development.
I want to polish them up more before it is complete.

If you have trouble viewing it, it's possible our lines are busy.
You may want to try viewing it during a different time of day.

Sounds like he doesn't think they are as polished as they can be, so he is promising an improvement before its complete.

:)

As much as I would love to have these be real time graphics, I'm leaning towards them being a prerendered intro. That said, however, I wouldn't be suprised if the actual in game graphics are on par with these.

I'm thinking they are real-time. Why? Because at the beginning where Mario, Link, Pikachu, and Kirby are standing, they 'upgrade' to their latest iteration. I think Ninty put that in there to show the advanced graphics. Those old models they upgraded from were from SSBM, so I think these are the real deal.

Plus, the face Kirby makes when both he and Pikachu have almost no change to themselves? Priceless.

They have plenty of fight scenes that are likely realtime. All the intros and close-up battles are equally likely prerendered.

Some of the effects like the smoke may not be real-time but it seemed like the stages (when they were fighting anyway) were real-time and the characters definitely were real-time rendered.

....

Does it fucking matter?

It's a trailer. Almost every trailer is pre-rendered in the history of gaming. I didn't see people complaining over at Sony's conference. Or about Halo 3.

Beyond that, this is Smash Bros. The character models will rock, the backgrounds will be marginally cool, and the gameplay will make your brain melt with goodness.

We know maybe 2% about this game and it already has decimated my balls.

The Cube->Wii intro, Atomic fart and MGS Codec are most likely renders, but the gameplay footage looks completely in-game. Its not going to look that good, it will look BETTER.

I agree that the Nintendog is only an item. It just wouldn't work out as a character.

Also, Captain N NEEDS to be the final boss....or NESter.

I could see there being 2 or 3 Nintendogs as one character, similar to Ice Climbers, working really well. But yeah, they're probably an item right now.

This is my point in a much more brash fashion.

I'm happily waiting on the game, and my girlfriend isn't. This means all of the minor fanboyism I exhibit at the moment is falling on deaf ears with her, as she hasnt even heard of Kid Icarus and dislikes SSB. Good thing she loves Zelda and Donkey Konga... I would have to dump her otherwise.

Hah, MY girlfriend is more excited about this than I am. :)

Right, because the Wii won't be able to do Snake's bandana the same way PS2 has since 2001.

Kid Icarus? Snake? Wario? Half-Naked Samus?

Yup, it's official, I'm going to spend $250 on a Wii now. Now if only they'd do the damn Kid Icarus sequel game I've been waiting for for so long...
Well of course it can't. The PS2 rendered Toy Story in real time. AND made waffles.
And the PS3 will make Hamburgers with less grease. I hope I can make a Pizza with the nextone!

Don't forget the Emotion Engine! Did you see the emotion on that old man's face?

I was talking about the one where he just stood outside of ...whatever the fuck he was standing outside of.

Unless there's an in-game trailer I don't know of. Which there could very well be, since I don't give a shit about Halo.

Well from what I've heard, it was real time which is what has Halo fans excited and it actually does look pretty good...

though really, I agree. Unless they completely throw out the gameplay in Halo 1 and 2, there's no way the game can be good.

am i the only one who things...omg wtf nintendogs?? i really hope they put little mac from punch out in this one :(..one can hope right :)?

Well even if that one is being rendered in real time, it doesn't show me shit about the gameplay. Just like Sony's GTHD movies. Yea, it looked good, and it was probably in real time, but it didn't show off how to actually play the game, unless their executives are such huge gaming gods that they DO NOT have to actually see where the fuck they are going.

Until then, it might as well be Killzone 360 for all I care.

SSBB and Halo are #1 made-for-fanboy games out there...

They're both good games, but due to the fanboyish nature/treatment, it really turns me off from playing them, thus ruining the enjoyment.

Either that, or I just downright have no respect for halo

Well I dunno... I mean, I'm not a Nintendo whore... hell, I hated them a few years back (during the N64 years), but Smash is an addictive combat game regardless of the fan service that gets thrown in. Yeah, it's definitely not a serious hardcore fighting game, but it's just damn fun due to the addictive, somewhat simplistic nature of the game -- not just because it has Nintendo's characters in there.

That's exactly what I was saying. It's a great and very well made game, but the fanboyism ruins half of it for me (even though it relies on it in order to be a game in itself).

It's just harder to enjoy. It's like if MGS3 was all the same except through the whole game Furbys would be everywhere. I'm sure I would love the game, but the furbys just damn ruin it for me.

Fair enough. Furby's ruin everything. Which is why I removed the pic in this quote.
