Supreme Commander 2 $10.99 on Steam

Got the first and hardly played it, but the changes on the second one have perked my interest for this. Thanks OP!

I've played a couple skirmish games.

It's pretty fun, though a little bland. The big thing is huge fights, like 500 on 500. I don't really get that feeling in a 1v1 vs the computer match, though online I hear is where the game is at.

The experimental units are awesome though. The enemy pushed me back all the way to my base and started rampaging, then I had one finish, a giant robotic dinosaur. He single handedly tromped all over them and was breathing fire on everything. (To be fair, he by himself probably cost the same amount of resources as their entire army)
meh... with starcraft 2 right around the corner and an ass load of backlog as it is, i'll pass. Great deal tho
With my backlog, I'm saying the same thing to Starcraft 2. If it were $49.99, I might have gotten it at release, but when its $59.99... I think I'll wait for a sale.

I still remember Modern Warfare 2 for PC dropping to $30-ish in December after it released at $59.99. I expect to see the same from SC2. And if I'm wrong in a few months, well... I'll have missed... several patches and unit imbalance issues?

I see no downside to waiting on an expensive PC game. With all that said, I think SC2 is not worth it unless you want to play ever RTS because there are better ones out there. ;)

i think the funny part is even with the technological advances from the original TA through supreme 2, no RTS has as big fanbase as starcraft.

Bought it last night and played a few online games today. It was quite enjoyable and found a lot of complaints to be false about this game. I am also a Supcom1 vet and I already know this game was not gonna be a same game with a 2 slapped at the end of the game title (which apparently a lot of vets were expecting). Anyways they made the game much simplier to control without trying to figure out what needs to be micro-managed all the time. The new engine is awesome....looks just as good as the first game while easily doubling my fps average.

My only real complaint is the lack of online maps. Theres a lot of 1v1 and 2v2 (and some FFA), but there is only 1 4v4 map (excluding preorder maps which will be release to all soon). Hopefully there will be more maps out in the future, but remember this game just came out in March so their is a lot of room for new content to be released. Game support is top notch as there has already been several patches since game release.

well there is alot less pc gamers these days compare to the console folks

i hate this whole move to the Free 2 Play model then having to "rent" items and such

Fan of TA and SC was the (suposed) spiritual succesor so to speak of TA. I liked the orginal (SC) but it was a micro manageing nightmare instead of the tactical battle it was advertised as. Huge amount of units, nice screen scrolling and zooming. Bland units (pretty much perfect mirrors on each side) with the expermental Units being the "cool" factor, but they are not used till later in game.

SC2 is a whole different animal. Maps with many choke points, no open battlefields like original. More "go this way or lose" maps, no where near as much expermenting with victory strategies. Very linear maps and gameplay. far to much "Build this or lose" gameplay. its still fun, but takes the unit decisions out of your hands and makes you build specific stuff no matter what (yes, the option to do waht you want it still there, but winning that way would be LONG and painfull, simply put, building the way they want you to is the only way to defeat the enemy in a normal amount of time). The Experemntal units show up a bit quicker with the ability to research, but (I'm not done yet) they seem alot weaker then the old ones.

Overall I think SC was a better game for the sandboxers, SC2 is more structured and follows the more traditional RTS formula.

$10 was a good deal IMHO still.
