Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck

Rachel Getting Married (2008)

This was fucking terrible. Awful, boring, and completely pointless. Horrible, uninteresting, fake characters. It's suppose to feel "real", but I've never seen people act like this. All the actors just come off as doing the worst parody of snooty, rich, Connecticut people. Beforehand, I was unsure if I was going to check it out, but decided to because of the Oscar nomination for Anne Hathaway. Well, with competition like this, Angelina Jolie should have no problem taking the Oscar for Changeling.

Before I turn this question into its own thread, does anyone else remember reading somewhere that when Watchmen was first initially conceived and/or drawn, that it was drawn in a "widescreen style" and meant to be easily transposed to the big screen. I remember reading/hearing this somewhere, but haven't been able to find any articles or links.

Blood: The Last Vampire - Far too much meh and bleh combined. Didn't really care for it. Not particularly good in any facet, though some of the plotline is good. The voice acting sucks.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack:

They fucking cheated! Godzilla so won and then they fucking cheated! All the racism against Godzilla in this movie makes me sick!

Good movie though :p

The Visitor (on DVD): GREAT understated performance by Richard Jenkins. I can see why he was nominated for an Oscar. Goes in a direction you don’t really expect, and really makes you think about our country’s current immigration policies.

The Wrestler: I went into this completely hyped for Mickey Rourke’s performance and was not disappointed. You root so hard for his character to get his shit together, I think in part because you’re rooting for Rourke himself to do the same. Marisa Tomei is also great, and damn hot. Loved the original song by Springsteen, and don’t really understand why it didn’t get nominated for an Oscar while two indistinct pieces of crap from Slumdog Millionaire were.

Waltz With Bashir: Harrowing animated documentary about the Israeli filmmaker’s attempt to fully recollect a disturbing incident he witnessed during the Lebanon War, which he has almost completely blocked out. By turns beautiful, intriguing, and tragic.

Donnie Darko

Amazing. Unfortunately my DVD was scratched, and I couldn't watch the end where the movie is finally wrapped up. Good thing I had seen the movie, I would have been really angry if I didn't know what the ending was.

Mission Impossible III

Fun action movie.
Crime Story and Police Story 2.

Jackie Chan is the most badass person of all time.
QFT! I just watched Police Story 1 the other day, I was thinking he is one crazy mofo.. But the stunts are flatout entertaining.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop - I had sorta high hopes for this since the wife and I both enjoyed King of Queens back when it was on but this movie was pure crap. It had a couple very funny parts but the rest was the same very tired slapstick that we all have seen done beter.

Hounddog (2007)

You might have heard about this film because of the controversy surrounding Dakota Fanning playing a 12 year old who gets raped. I don't see what the problem was, the scene last less than 30 seconds, and just focuses on her face. Anyways, the movie is mostly boring. It builds up well enough to the rape scene, but then kind of falls apart afterwards. Best thing was Dakota Fanning's performance.

Outlander (2008)

Okay, this film was weird. It's set in the year 709, in Norway, during the reign of the Vikings. A man from a far-off world, (another planet, the future???), named Kainan (James Caviezel), crash lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator known as the "Moorwen". Kainan and the Vikings join forces to battle the beast. Ron Perlman shows up halfway through the film, as the leader of another nearby tribe. The battle scenes are fun and bloody, but overall it's a pretty cheesy Sci-Fi/Adventure movie.

Thick as Thieves (2009)

Director, Mimi Leder's first film since the underrated Pay It Forward (2000). Thick as Thieves is a very different film. It's a crime/heist film, starring Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas as crime partners. Freeman plays a veteran thief who recruits a younger crook (Banderas), to help him pull off one final job in order to repay his debt to the Russian mob. It was a pretty average crime movie, until the ending, which was surprisingly original, and I didn't see coming.

Saw 5 - Wow, that totally sucked. Not even a scrap of quality to it. The traps were insipid, uninspired, bland, redundant, etc. I know this is Saw and everyone knows what they're getting into, but this was pure shit that should have just been released straight to dvd, if that. The movie doesn't even play as a total Saw, but more as a highlight reel. Total shit with no, zero redeeming qualities, unlike 1-4 where at least the plots were ok-to really good or had great traps. This had none of that. They should have killed this series long ago and let it to rest. This is just an absolute recycling of the plot, without even the hint of trying to add something new.
Yep. I think I heard about more after that too.
I believe they have contracts in place up to 7 or 8 now. fuck Saw tbh, Repo! ftw. Support a real series.

Traitor, pretty good thriller/action movie. I'm curious where Cheadle's carrier is headed. After films like Hotel Rawanda, Talk to Me, Reign over me, and crash I thought he was going for serious rolls. Now I see his in Hotel for Dogs.. WTF!?
Coraline in 3D.

fucking amazing.
Agreed. Saw it last night and it blew my mind. Definitely on par with The Nightmare Before Christmas in terms of sheer wonder, though it lacks that film's amazing songs. And the 3D is amazing. Make sure you stay for the end of the credits!!!

i think he probably did something like HfD because he's one of about 8 actors in hollywood who is untouchable credibility-wise. not box office numbers, but just plain damned skill. i won't see HfD, but it's not like cheadle is gonna be a shittier actor for being in it.

The Bourne Supremacy.

I probably would've liked it more had I remembered something from the first one, which I haven't seen in years. The really loud distraction for the first half hour and the fact that it was one in the morning didn't help either.

It seemed like a good movie though. I just wish I had seen it under different circumstances.

Gomorra

Excellent film. It could be a bit hard to watch, because there really isn't much style to this movie, but it ends up almost forming a style of it's own, one that is very gritty and realistic. The only problem with the film, in my opinion, was that it was focusing on too many different characters. It felt very fragmented, and some of the characters I just didn't care for.

Overall though, it was a great film.
I'm afraid to ask...is there going to be a Saw VI?

Yep. I think I heard about more after that too.
Yeah, I know there's a 6 listed on the IMDB that is slated to come later this year at, guess what, Halloween. Shocking. As someone else mentioned, let this thing die (or stop re-animating it) already and stop beating a dead horse.

I'm pretty sure they're contracted through 9 actually. And don't even support Repo! That thing isn't any good either.

Ya I had the same feeling, Its based on a book (apparently it was written by a guy who was involved with the mob but now is in hiding and they want him dead) and maybe they just stayed very close to how the book was written. The Naples dialect is so damn dirty, my wife's friend is italian, lives in Florence and needed subtitles because he couldn't understand a damn thing.

If you like Italian films you need to see Cinema Paridiso, that film is a classic. fucking Alfredo.

JCVD - it jumps around a bit at the beginning but overall it wasn't too bad.

Taken - pretty good who knew liam neeson was a badass

Taken- no twists/suspense whatsoever, but watching Liam Neeson own everybody was amusing.

North By Northwest- fucking terrific. I can't believe this is my first Hitchcock movie. I need MOAR!

Pfft, Repo! is damn good entertainment, so long as you don't expect some sort of cinematic expertise or some story to fill you with a false sense of meaning. I don't seek life messages in my movies.

The Pink Panther 2 (2009)

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I thought this was hilarious, just like the first Steve Martin Panther movie. I never get tired of the way Martin does the accent, or his slapstick style at all. I never get tired of Steve Martin, period. I hope there's more sequels, but this one didn't do as well at the box office as the first film in 2006, so that that seems unlikely.

Friday the 13th (2009)

I mainly wanted to see this in the theater, because I've seen any of the series in the theater. I won't be doing that again, for any future sequels/remakes. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything special either. There was nothing original that hasn't been done in the series before. I know the teenager characters don't matter, but fuck, they were more annoying than ever. And there was hardly any gore, there was plenty of blood, but don't expect any truly sick shit, like the Saw or Hostel movies. If you really want to see a horror movie at this time of year, check out My Bloody Valentine 3D, it's about a million times better.
Anybody seen the troma movie Poultrygeist???
yeah its by far tromas best film. only disappointment is the missing song from the trailer. its played in the bg like once for 5-10seconds. I honestly thought it was the best thing in the trailer, beside the typical gore. Its a troma film that i actually enjoyed.

Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon - Best Sci-Fi channel Movie Ever. + Carly Pope is in it who is awesome.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane - Average Slasher w/ a nice twist.

Gutterballs - if there was a horror porn genre this is in it. Way over the top in everyway. Creative kills and awesome sci-fi soundtrack make up for the nudity.

How could you not enjoy Cannibal the musical. Good to know about poultrygeist, Im gonna buy the DVD at best buy. Its only $19.99 which is $10 less than everywhere else
