Slumdog millionaire
Gonna see that next. Trailers looked quite good. Glad you liked Boy In the Striped Pajamas, btw.

Yeah its great, definitely one of the better movies this year!:bouncy:
Valkyrie... awesome intense as hell movie... Even Cruise did a great job.
Tom Cruise is retarded but I don't recall him ever doing a bad job acting

Ringers: Lord of the Fans

Really been going through Middle Earth withdrawal lately, and I had somehow managed not to see this, even though I visit TORN all the time. Not the best "obsessed fan documentary" I've seen, nor the best Tolkien doc, but enjoyable nonetheless. I liked that it didn't make fun of its subjects ala Trekkies, but instead respected them and gave them a chance to explain their affection for and connection to Tolkien's work.

I'm really not a Tom Cruise buff, so anyone can feel free to prove me wrong, but has he every really stretched as an actor? It seems like every movie he's just Tom Cruise playing a guy.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm not saying he's a bad actor.

EDIT: Oh wait, he played that big-hands guy in Tropic Thunder...

I think Cruises roles have been reasonably diverse. Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, Interview with the Vampire, Vanilla Sky, Rain Man.

I wouldn't call it a huge range, but I wouldn't say he always plays the same character either.

Yeah, The Dark Knight is great, best movie I've seen so far this year for sure. I watched a few scenes to check out the Blu Ray last night, waiting until Saturday to watch it with some friends.
I wanna check this out too. He's a great actor
I want to see JCVD... because it is the only movie I know of where Jean Claude has been praised for his acting...

The Dark Knight - Great movie but it doesn't live up to the hype. Batman 1989 is still my favorite Batman film.

Slap Shot
- I have seen this multiple times through the years and it is still as good as the first time. On top of that it is one of my top 4 favorite sport and comedy movies of all time.

Opportunity Knocks
- My favorite Dana Carvey flick besides Wayne's World 1 & 2, but that isn't saying much besides it is a decent way to waste 90 minutes on a mindless comedy. I watched it on Hulu.

Magnolia was his best. If anyone hasn't seen that, do so now. Most random movie ending EVER.

Really? Maybe TDK is the non Batman fan's film. I can't stand any of the other Batman films, but this one is seriously one of my favorite movies of all time. I guess I really dug how they they were able to give it a realistic feel, while maintaining the super hero charm.

Other super hero movies either go too realistic or awkwardly comic booky in my eyes.

Gran Torino + Slumdog millionare = great movie year despite quantum of solace being balls.

Much better than last year's pretentious boring movies like there will be blood and no country for old men.

Now just gotta check out Frost Nixon + Doubt

It's been some time since I've posted in this thread on my goings about with film, so here it goes:

Repo! The Genetic Opera - I loved every moment of it. It's a bit pretentious, and goes on for a bit, but it's a wild ride. Just go in and shut off the logical parts of your brain (brain in general), since there are some definite plot holes/plot inconsistancies/shit that doesn't make sense when you think about it. Sarah Brightman was fantastic as Blind Mags, and even Paris Hilton was great. This is basically a modern day Rocky Horror and everyone should go and see it if they get the chance. Everyone came dressed as characters from the movie (except for me and a lady friend) and there was singing in the aisles. It was pretty crazy. I think Sneaky would definitely dig the movie.

Milk - I was hoping to like this one more than I actually did. It actually kind of sucks. The acting from Sean Penn was phenomenal, as is generally expected, but the direction wasn't all there. Penn definitely pulls off an amazing gay man, and especially the character of Harvey Milk. I liked certain aspects of the film, such as the interspersing actual documentary film footage in (reminded me of French New Wave ala Truffuat (sp), but for much of the first quarter/half the film seems to linger as a softcore gay porn film. I understand why Gus Van Sant put in so much gay imagery into the film, but the actual sex scenes were hardly necessary and definitely seemed gratuitous. One scene you'll notice is the one where they are rejoicing after Milk wins the supervisor position and they are celebrating, only for the director to cut away to two gay men giving each other a blow job. Absolutely unnecessary in the context of the film and what it was trying portray. In general, it seemed that the director seemed to be bringing to light every gay stereotype that there is, rather than trying break those common misconceptions. I did enjoy the director's attempt to try to show the parallels between Harvey Milk and Barack Obama. The fact that it was a period piece of recent era was also quite fascinating and illuminating.

Milk is definitely one of those films that seems to definitely know its audience. I was on a date, but be prepared to be sitting in a movie theatre with tons of gay guys who know the plot like the back of their hand. Kind of weird, and I guess it doesn't make for a date movie really, but eh, it wasn't exactly my choice.

Milk is good. Sean Penn never ceases to amaze. This is James Franco's best work since Freaks and Geeks.

Edit: I composed my post before seeing Hiccup's post. I agree that the sex scenes were gratuitous.
I guess it doesn't make for a date movie really
Maybe that depends on the gender of your date ;)

The Day The Earth Stood Still. More like The Movie That Makes Time Stand Still. Just awful. At least I used a pass for it so no money out of my pocket. Let my waste of time prevent you from making the same mistake.

It's Gus Van Sant. This is the same director who remade Psycho :puke: and added a masturbation scene.

Whats the movie that takes place inside a Target or similar store when a guy and this hot chick get stuck inside after closing hours?
Whats the movie that takes place inside a Target or similar store when a guy and this hot chick get stuck inside after closing hours?
Career Opportunities?
Mannequin?
Gremlins 2?

Career Opportunities- Jennifer Connolly played the "hot chick." That's kind of redundant, isn't it?

But of course:D;)
Repo! The Genetic Opera

Really bad, but I kind of enjoyed it.
Yeah, it's a fun movie. Did you see it as apart of the Repo! Road Tour with Director/writer(star) Q & A afterward? I did. It made the film all the more fun.

This is from my friend's camera since I forgot mine :bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb:

JCVD... great movie. Wife had to fill me in on some of the subtle jokes. Apparently Van Damme has been saying some wacky stupid shit in french interviews, over the past few years.

I just watched Bullworth in its entirety on Hulu. I must say that I'm impressed with the service, and hopefully they add more content to it, but I will definitely be using it in the future. Too bad that as of this moment, I have seen nearly everything they have up (filmwise). Anyway, back to my review of the film. I really quite enjoyed the film. It brought back memories of the 90s. I was particularly surprised by its foresight (well, maybe it was always this way but not nearly as bad) into our political system and its unravelings. Interesting imagery all around, especially the ending, which I will try not to give away, but is clearly influenced by a famous photo/event in history...... Bullworth is a fine example of a satirical film that was well ahead of its time.

Let the Right One In

I think this is my MOTY. I've seen it twice and I'm just blown away by it.

That's pretty cool! No, we just saw it at a movie theater in NYC...no Q&A afterwards, unfortunately. I did go see OhGr perform a few weeks back and they were giving out big Repo! one-sheets at the merch booth, though.
