Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck
no shit! my bad. Didn't remember seeing any trailers for this on tv, so just assumed it never came out. Maybe just a limited release?

Anyhow, I still haven't been to the movies since I moved down here, the Grande a nice place?
The Grande, Crossroads, and Southpoint are all pretty much identical, with The Grande being the least crowded of the three. They all have steep stadium seating that gives you a decent view as long as you're not on the floor. Brier Creek is newer, but its seating is shallow, and I don't care for it. They have the best sound, though. As for nice, I think The Grande was the first of its kind in the area, and it's starting to show its age just a bit.

We have an awesome indie theater in Cary called The Galaxy. I highly recommend supporting them whenever possible.

And to say something on topic, I watched There Will Be Blood on Blu-ray. I saw it in theaters, but now I can confirm: I love this movie.
Special looks great, just added to my Netflix queue.
If you dig it, make sure you check out The Naked Man if you haven't seen it already

I watched Twilight at the request of the girlfriend, and I officially hate myself a little more. Whoever was the director of cinematography should be beaten repeatedly for using such awkward, unnecessary camera angles. It's so ridiculously overacted it makes Nic Cage seem tolerable, and I'm pretty sure that it was designed for kids with ADD since it shows you the same thing over and over again until you realize what's going on.

Apparently the thousands of vampire movies and stories before this had it wrong - in direct sunlight, vampires do not burst into flames. They do, however, twinkle like a fucking fairy princess.

The Last Temptation of Christ

holy whoa. i'm still not sure what i think of this movie, but i got a LOT more from it than i did from Passion of the Christ (as far as movies about Jesus go).

The Spirit (2008)

This was nowhere near as bad as some people made it out to be. Sure, it was a box office bomb, but I think that had a lot to do with its release date, come on, Christmas Day, with other family movies like Bedtime Stories and Marley & Me getting released the same day? Samuel L. Jackson was hugely entertaining as The Octopus. While this film was not at all at the level of greatness of Sin City, it did have a very Sin City-like style, but with a much more comedic tone. Speaking Sin City, Miller needs to stop dicking around with movies like this, and that sure to suck 300 sequel/prequel, and get to the two Sin City sequels.

Gran Torino

What can i say! It was absolutely amazing! It blew me away!
Clintwood is the man...be we all know that right. Yeh, some of the "angry" acting was abit laughable. But apart from that its the the best film ive seen so far this year!

Now, all be good and go and watch it :)
Just watched Bangkok Dangerous. It sucked. Sucked kok. Get it?
But it love you long time.

Punisher: War Zone.... over the top violence, which is very key to the Punisher, but everything else about it SUCKED. Acting, camera work... and WTF was up with
the henchmen at the beginning of the movie. The lights went out and they sat there and got butchered, but when the lights came on, the remaining few jumped into action. You would figure they would do something besides just sit there for the 30+ seconds the other people were getting offed. It was like they were docile cattle only there to up the body count. Were they solar-powered or something?

Adventureland - I really enjoyed it. It is a sweet funny love story that didn't rely on too much shock humor like most rated R romantic comedies.

Fight Club.
It was an awesome mindfuck.

Kingdom Of Heaven.
It's my friends favourite movie, but I don't get it. It was so uninspired....

Troy
OK. Awesome fighting, and Eric Bana is amazing.

Role Models.
Meh.

I Love You, Man
Hillarious. One of the funnier films I've ever seen.

I've seen a ton of movies in the last while...
Best Movie I've seen in years:

2001: A Space Odyssey
Oh.Shit.
"Open the pod bay doors, HAL"
Fight Club.

Watch it again, it's like a totally different movie.

Saw Australia. It was pretty good, but the little kid in that was fucking amazing.

Kinda had the Taxi Driver effect on me. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to like or hate Clint's character. That's part of what makes the movie stick with you afterwards, just like Taxi Driver. Only Gran Torino can't hold a candle to Taxi Driver. I love the shit out of that movie.

From Within was really good. I thought the acting could have been better at times but other then that I really liked it. It is one of 2009, should have been 2008 but it got pushed back, eight films to die for.

Role Models - I expected total crap and I was pleasantly surprised by this. Role Models is now on my list of one of the best comedies in recent years.

Briar Creek sucked dick last time I went there. I went and saw Adventureland and the lighting kept fucking up during the movie. North Hills is the best theater. If they showed more indie movies there wouldn't be a need to go anywhere else.

Doomsday - 3/10

Where to begin...

1. Rip off of mad max
2. Zombies or cannibals again? really?
3. Wait wait... a $100+ car can't outrun tin cans?
4. Speakin of that people can outrun cars?
5. Has Rhona Mitra always done shitty movies?
6. I'll probably think of more later.

I thought that movie had potential. Some really stupid scenes though, namely
When they're throwing out paper plates and stuff to eat that one guy they're bbq'ing. Yeah...I almost turned off the movie there.

Decent idea though.

I actually thought it was a blast. It felt more like a derivative of Escape from New York than of Mad Max.

i agree with you on this one. i really enjoyed it. although i was eating pizza during THAT scene.....that was unfortunate. still, i thought it was a fun movie.

Yes Man - Same ole, same ole Jim Carrey, tape on the face again...really? It did have a sweet story but Yes Man is about as generic as they come.

Running Scared

This is one of those movies that you watch not expecting much, but end up being very surprised at how much better it is than you originally thought it would be.

Frozen River

Surprised me in parts. Nice little movie (albeit grim), and I can see why Melissa Leo was nominated for best actress.

it was good until
that last twist

Dragonball Evolution- Yes I seen it, with 9 other people and all of us thought it was awesome (and all of us are big otaku). Actually if you can accept the fact that this just butchers the Dragonball story and Americanizes it, you will have fun. Although the all niter after seeing it is going to suck, lol.

Special - saw it mentioned on the board and thought I'd give it a try. The movie was pretty damn good, thanks CAG! Only drawback is, everytime I see Micheal Rapaport I just see that stupid white guy he played in higher learning.

Quantum of Solace.

I enjoyed it. Not nearly as good as Casino Royale, but still a good action flick and I still like Craig's more gritty/tortured Bond character.

Vinyan - 2/5

Vinyan had the problem of being over hyped. The past year i been hearing about the movie, how it is a different take on horror/thrillers. It is difficult to believe how the husband/wife get from thailand to wasting thousands of pounds in search for their missing son. That alone is so unbelievable it really puts you out of the movie from the get go. The film does a couple things well, it does make you feel uncomfortable. You get the sense when in Bruma that you do not belong there and you are truly lost. Vinyan does have great cinematography. Colors are dull and washed out in Bruma but pop in other areas(jungle/thailand). Vinyan is definitely different. It has a few things going for it but its slow pace, unbelievable story, and genuinely dumb wife makes it hard to recommend.
Adventureland - A more serious teen comedy with great period music, excellent.
Plan on seeing it next week...

the Day The Earth Stood Still remake:

fuck did this remake fucking blow. At least in the original it deals with nuclear weapons which I think we can all agree with that those are bad but using global warming for the cause is retarded as we don't even really know if we are going through global warming or you know, the more plausible Earth's weather cycles. And you would think that Keanu would be perfect for the wooden acting required of Klaatu but he can't even do that right with his dead eyes. As for it looking good, I want to know where the budget went as that CGI was really bad looking. Most of it wouldn't even be passable in a videogame let alone a movie.

This was worse than The Happening and I want my hour and 40 minutes back

Crows: Episode Zero

Really good film. It did feel like someone was trying to emulate Miike's Triad films but ended up making it really glossy instead of it actually being from Miike. And there is a scene in the movie that though was in the manga, it feels really out of the place with the realistic tone of the film. The acting was great, it looked good even with it being a bit too glossy, story was great. Miike does crib quite a few things from greaser films of the 50's and 60's which is a nice touch. Definitly worth watching

Totally agree with this. For a movie that exists only to show off special effects, the CGI was terrible. I do give them credit for most scenes with Gort, and the nano-bots making cracks in the glass was nice, but the disaster scenes (basically everything in the trailer) were useless. Who cares if a fake looking truck or stadium gets dissolved?
The Visitor.

It was very good, and quite sad.
YES! I actually did my first blog about this movie.
It's brilliant.
