Since there's quite a bit of buzz on this in the Survivor 19 thread I figured I'd go ahead and start this one now.

Thanks for the link, pitfallharry219!

I was just reading the Wikipedia entry for it and apparently it was shot in
Samoa just 20 days after Survivor 19 wrapped up since the infrastructure for the show was already in place. The 2009 Samoan earthquake and tsunami occurred right after filming finished for Survivor 20.

Did anyone see the special they aired last week? Seeing Richard Hatch made me sad that he won't be playing. :[

I'm not sure what it is, but I've been more excited for this season that for any season in a long time. There are a few people I wish were on it (Hatch, Yau Man) and a few people I wish weren't (Sandra, Danielle, Sugar), but overall, it's a great cast.

Tyson's hilarious. I wish he would get more camera/interview time.
LOL at Sugar's "victory pose" to Sandra.
This. Great opener. Kind of surprised to see all the butt-kissing and how well everyone got along that first night, but it quickly devolved into the usual "who's threatened by whom" shenanigans. :)
Sandra unsnapping Sugar's top was classic. I LOL'd.
I was almost on the floor when Sugar wiggled out of her top after that and just sprinted to the finish without it. Floor was attained when she spun around topless and gave Sandra a double-shot of middle finger.

i watched the first 30 minutes too, that was my first time ever seeing survivor (i saw the ad during super bowl & decided to give it a shot)... i was pretty disappointed, seemed like kind of a terrible show, but damn those bitches are hot. looking at previous seasons it seems like the greatest thing this show has going is a constant flow of scantly clad hot bitches on the beach.

i'm extremely anti-makeup. i mean, there are exceptions, but i usually dont consider actresses all the hot because they always wear so much makeup. but survivor has celebrity-level attractive girls not wearing too much (any?) makeup and the result is almost worth watching the show for. i can see the appeal.

I want to a competition where Stephanie, Amanda, Parvati, and Candice have to wrestle for puzzle pieces hidden in a giant kiddie pool filled with jello.

What makes it better is that they used to censor out the chicks butts if you could see too much. But, I'm glad they have thrown that logic out this season... and glad they don't censor Amanda anymore. Wonder why they stopped.

Such a bullshit choice of who they voted off tonight. Morons.

A lady at work semi-spoiled the season saying she found a list of who was voted off and in what order. So far it's correct. She said
Randy
gets voted off next week and
Russell
makes final four. Then I changed the subject so she'd stop talking. When I see her tomorrow I have to be ready to stop her if she starts spoiling more shit for me.

I missed a few of the middle seasons, including Tom's, but everything I've ever seen about him made him sound like a good guy. After watching him so far this season, he comes off like kind of a douchebag, to me at least.

Actually after looking at a list of seasons, I missed five of them. I started watching from the very beginning, and I stopped watching after Jenna won Amazon(6). Then I started watching again when Panama(12) started. So I missed Pearl Islands, All Stars, Vanuatu, Palau, and Guatemala.

Tom is just arrogant. Basically an uber-alpha male. Rupert is kind of an asshole now.

The only genuinely good guy there is JT. He even seems like a nice guy when he's trying to play dirty, lol.

You can get a couple of those seasons on DVD now (or iTunes). I really loved Pearl Islands. That's the season that got me back into watching Survivor (I stopped after the 3rd season). Palau was also awesome just for the fact of watching what it really means to see a tribe self-destruct.

I'm not sure if it's just editing, but one of the things that has always interested me when they bring previous players back is seeing how much different they can look from one season to the next. Rupert, for example, was just plain awesome in Pearl Islands. There was no question as to why he was a fan favorite. This season, he's really not impressing me the same way. Maybe it's too early to make that sort of a judgment though.

I still like Tom though. He was pretty kickass on his season (dude killed a shark!), and it's good to see him not resting on his laurels. I was really hoping his alliance with JT and Tom to work out, just so we could see if two previous winners could make it to the end together, which would mean we'd see someone win a second time. Maybe he'll make it to the merge and team up with Parvati or Sandra.

Ugh, I hate this season. More Russell and an entire team of Douchebags, and a team of mostly-boring Heroes. Why is Amanda here for a third time exactly?

I question why both Amanda and James are back for the third time. I found the whole season of China to be fairly lackluster. I can see bringing James back once as a novelty due to him bungling up having two immunity idols, but I sort of question why he or Amanda are worth bringing back for a third time. What makes them "heroes"?

I am glad they brought Courtney back, however. Her snark during the interviews pointing out how useless most of the people were was probably one of the few highlights of that season.

I'd also like to know why Courtney decided to wear men's underwear to the show and why the one girl has frilly lace around her bikini bottoms.

Yeah, Tom's fairly arrogant. He's pretty honest and trustworthy too, though. His season was pretty unique in that (spoiler from his season, Palau)
the physically dominant person (Tom) actually made it to the end and won. Usually, after the merge, the physical threats are voted off fairly early.

Please reconsider your sexuality... damn man.

Really why is James a hero? Because he is awesome.

James is great. I keep hoping he'll go berserk and break someone over one of his knees like a stick.

EDIT - And then dig a grave for them.

I've never missed an episode in all the seasons it's been on TV. I don't know why - I just find the show endlessly and throughly entertaining. Maybe it has something to do with my interest in sociology.

Sugar was right to get booted first; I'm not so sure about Steph. I thought that was pretty dirty that they brought up her history in challenges and in the game.

Looking forward to this week's episode.

You know, I generally hate reality shows, but when I tried to explain to someone why I enjoy Survivor so much, it pretty much boiled down to the sociological and psychological aspects. There's just something about the social part of the game I just find so enthralling, and no other reality show seems to be able to emulate it.

It's hard to explain to someone why you like Survivor. They never give you the benefit of the doubt. They figure it's just like any other shitty reality show they avoid like the plague. The Darwinism of the game is the star. And, honestly, it's the only gameshow that isn't a candyass show. These people really do starve and sleep in the freezing cold during typhoons. They earn that million dollar prize.

What amazes me is it never feel "stale", not like other shows where by season 3 or 4 the gimmick ran out and you wonder why it's still on the air.

I'm surprised the Heroes are losing every immunity challenge. They're the beefy ones while the Villians are the brains. Most of the early immunity challenges are physical, but not this time.

I'd like to see the Villians lose an immunity. It would be much more interesting to see them scramble.

Too bad Poverty didn't get voted out. If they don't get her off before the merge, they'll be in big trouble.

No surprise
Randy
got voted out. Also glad to see the Heroes finally win an immunity challenge.

That immunity challenge was better than WWE. Randy always looks like he just got out of bed. I really liked Russel last season, but this season he seems like the little dog.

"lol @ Coach" pretty much sums up the entirety of the guy's screen time. He's such a joke. I can't believe he's even a real person.

Gotta love his MLK speech about doing whatever he could to keep Randy in the game right before Randy gets voted out. Coach is someone I would never want to win the game, but damn, it is entertaining to watch someone so delusional.

Agreed, but damn, it got him on TV. The immunity challenge was wonderful, and I would have loved to see Courtney get her skinny ass demolished by Cirie...

That's too bad that Randy got voted out. He cracks me up; I love all the sarcastic comments he makes. The funniest part of it is that he's a wedding videographer, making a living filming the happiest day of people's lives while he's so bitter.
I'd love to see Parvati die in a fire.
Before you burn her... may I haz pleez?

She reminds me of Miranda from ME2
