Survivor 20: Heroes vs. Villains - February 11, 2010 - Official Discussion Thread

I love this show, but the way the winner is chosen is so flawed it's ridiculous.

In my mind, Russel is a two time, back-to-back winner.

I think giving America a vote would fuck shit up. Big Brother did it quite well in season 1 but the show turned into shit in the past 3-4 years they've had America vote on stuff.

I think the show should have three tribes until a merge. Having two creates too strong a bond in one tribe. Whereas if there are three tribes, when they merge things get shaken up more. It's not just a majority picking off the smaller tribe. That creates too much of a disadvantage. People should have an equal opportunity to "survive", not to be shit outta luck because your tribe can't win challenges.

I thought Russell made the stupidest decision ever in taking Parvati to the finals as opposed to Jerri. Apparently it wouldn't have made a difference.

Sandra sort of stepped up towards the end of the season but once again, the show boiled down to people being butt-hurt about getting outplayed, outwitted, etc. by Russell and not being able to put aside their feelings for the final vote.

If they ever put Coach on Survivor again, I'll skip the whole season. That little douche makes me want to stab my eardrums every time he opens his stupid mouth.

Coach needs his own sitcom. That dude is living in a dream world and it is hilarious.

I knew Russell had no chance of winning. I am surprised that Sandra won though and not Parvati. Parvati was the best player this season by a mile. Her social game was way better than Russell's and she dominated the challenges. She was also right that from Day 1 pretty much everyone was trying to get rid of her and they could never do it. She is the one who deserved to win. Russell is fun to watch but his flaws as a player really came through this season. Last season I thought he played a perfect game and the jury was being petty but this season I totally get why no one voted for him. Sandra also played a good game - it was clearly a mistake to get rid of Courtney when they had the choice. The thing I love about Sandra is that she plays as an independent and she has a mouth with no brain filter. It is amazing that she has won this game twice.

I also never quite understood why Sandra wasn't ditched quite some time ago. Russell didn't need her, they didn't get along, and she was gunning for him the whole time. Wasn't his Russell-sense tingling about that? Also, when she had that immunity idol, why didn't he know? Russell is so freakin' smart about positioning people and blind-siding, but little things like this have cost him both games.

You're right, Halo, about peoples feelings being hurt. Rupert admitted openly about lying and conniving to get through the game, yet somehow HE is on a higher moral ground than Russell? Please. I liked ol' Rupe on the past shows, but this season made me realize he's a grandstanding douche who's gotten a little too big for his britches. It's a game that requires lies and deceit. Everyone does it. Apparently Russell does it the wrong way according to two different juries.

No way. Russell was the best player easily on this season as well as last season. He took an alliance of 3 and turned the tide on an alliance of 6 by convincing Tyson to switch his vote and using the idol (without this move, Boston Rob alliance easily goes into merge). In addition upon merge, he made it seemed like a Black Widow alliance and got an idol from it to vote out the strongest Hero in JT (without this, Jerri would have been voted out). He had more social play in that he was able to convince a bunch of people (that hated him) to blindside his own alliance in Danielle (granted this ended up being one of his worst moves in the game besides personally attacking Rupert).

The flaw in Survivor is that about every season the best player gets screwed out of the million for the person who coasted i.e. never made a move (for example, Natalie, Colby, Sandra, etc). Let's be for real... Sandra did nothing but outlast her alliance. The only smart move she made was not banding together with the Heroes to vote out Parvati at the merge. To me, that is not a million dollar thing. Even with a throw away vote, at least Parvati played by banding with the Russell, winning challenges, and using the 2 idols at merge.

After watching the reunion, I also agree he just needed to just shut up and be apologetic/blame the game on his actions for personal attacks. He is just way overbearing.

I just watched it. I knew Russell was going to boned again. The jury cannot put aside their pettiness to vote for the person that outlasted/outwitted/outplayed them. The reason the first bunch of Survivors were so good is because they gave the million to the players that deserved it. Now it comes down to who didn't piss me off. How does everyone on Survivor hate Russell but America loves him? What does that tell you? These people are morons.

The only thing I agree with the jury is the way Russell conducted himself somewhat. He didn't have to be a humongous asshole and maybe he should have stated some sort of lamentation for his actions. I think that would have garnered him a vote or two. At some point you need to stop speaking with your heart and say what people want to hear. He had no problem lying during the game, but he was straight up honest during the jury vote. You think after last season he would have realized that.

In the end, Russell won twice in a row in my eyes and both juries were fucking retards minus John and Shambo.

I was on Team Russell the first time he played. But this second time the entire season revolved around him. About halfway through I stopped supporting the guy. And lo and behold, he acts like a sniveling little shit at the aftershow...again. He pulled the same shit on the early show but Julie Chen wasn't having it anymore than Jeff did.

So glad the next season will be fresh players again. I just hope some fucktard doesn't copy Russell and take away the fun again. It's just not fun to watch when they edit episodes to just focus on one player or the chaos he creates.
CBS just released the fall schedule, and they've moved Survivor to Wednesdays at 8.
Wow - really? I think that's good since Thursdays are so crowded. I had to pass on Bones this season because of FlashForward and Survivor. FF got canceled though. I've got to start getting the Bones episodes to watch this summer.

I am glad. Now I might be able to watch Community.
