Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror 9.3/10!

Well, I wasn't impressed by the demo and though I've just cracked the game I like it much better than the demo. It plays very well and looks great. Obviously it owes a great debt to Splinter Cell, but that's not a bad game to emulate (and they play this game with more action than that series. Again, it's early for me, but so far I'm digging this game.

IMO, the game is much different than SC. Since SC pushes to keep you hidden and out of the line of fire it's much more stealth focused. So far, I've played through about 10 - 12 "missions" in SF and each one has had some sort of firefight in it. That's not to say it's bad, just a different type of gameplay.

I'm really digging SF, but I keep playing Daxter a bit more. I can't find a control setup that I like a lot for SF.

I just played through the Syphon Filter Demo...I really dug it. Does the game contain the same first few levels or is it totally different? I may have to pick this game up.

I just beat it today, and for my first time ever with a handheld game, I was sad that it was over. I really enjoyed the single player and it was BY FAR the best action experience on a handheld that I've played. The graphics, music, gameplay. Everything was top notch. I didn't really get into the online that much- I just played a few matches, but it was fun.

The game is definitely in the top few of the quickly growing PSP greats, and everyone should buy it.

But Splinter Cell owes nothing to Syphon Filter? I thought Syphon was one of the first 3rd person shooters?

I got this game yesterday, did about 9 missions, and I really dig this game.
I do suggest using a headset for the online play though because there are more and more people talking on it. Sure, I totally get my ass kicked and handed to me in Onlne, but it's still fun as hell.
Single player is un doubtly good.
9/10 from me.

Gameplay-wise, sure. But SF : DM owes A LOT to SC with the same gadgets and high-tech views. I agree it's more action orientated, but it's definitely largely inspired by the SC series. The important thing is that it's a top-notch game that's really fun and well done. I used to like SOCOM, but since this came out, I haven't touched that one, as this one does everything better.

Games like this are what's going to put UMD Videos out of business. When there are enough good GAMES for the system, nobody will be buying movies anymore.

And BTW : has anyone found that headset? I've scoured the Vegas valley and can't find one anywhere.

I never tried the demo, but the full game is decent. I'd like it better if I wasn't hung up on the controls ... which control set do you other peeps use? None of them seem right to me, and Standard just seems too simplified.

Control issues aside, the game is tight. Of all the games on PSP I've played so far, I think this comes closest to Sony's vision of a console-level portable game.

This game, in my opinion, is the best PSP game so far (haven't tried Daxter yet, so I can't say that's the best). So far online I'm a R1. We should all add each other. My name online is G_UNOT. Add me!

The multiplayer kind of sucks.

It would be awesome, if it didn't have an RPG style weapon ststem.

The new players can only have a famas, whereas experienced players can have any weapon they want, including double sawed off shotguns.

Meh, is it really worth playing (and losing) so many hours of multiplayer just to get the weapons that make it fair?

Did anyone see the review in EGM? 7.0/7.0/6.5. Are they playing the same game as me? Because I'm really impressed with the single player game -- it's long and fun. They complain a lot about the control scheme, but I find it perfectly fine.

Both their reviews of Daxter & Syphon Filter make no sense. Even in the Daxter one, they have no explaination for giving it such a poor score. They're like "This is a great game and exactly what the PSP needs - 7.0"

I only played the demo and thought it was sweet. I just got the full game today and I can't wait to play through it. I really don't understand EGM at all lately. It's almost as if the online multiplayer isn't great they don't like it. For a portable game I feel almost as if online is a bonus....it shouldn't make or break a title unless it revolves solely around that. The single player portion of the game was a blast... the little amount of it I played. It seems EGM has become EXTREMELY WHINY lately.

It's ok...all magazine companies are bought off by someone. Maybe EGM is a DS playground. I really don't know.
