Tales of Graces - Out in Japan, while everyone else waits for the fans

Well, maybe they will consider a US release now to try and get back some of the costs of this recall, assuming they can make money over here. I will be pretty crushed if the game isn't released here though.
Tales of Graces has been recalled in Japan so Namco Bandai can fix bugs.

I wonder if this means anything for a potential US release?

Also, isn't it technically possible to issue patches for Wii games? I thought that a bug in Wii Sports Resort was patched at some point.
From what I understand, the bug wasn't in the game, but in the Wii firmware, causing the issue with Wii Sports Resort.

I don't know of any Wii game that's been patched.

Looks like there's a fan-translation underway, led by two folks from the Fatal Frame 4 fan-translation team.

Nice, from what I've heard that was an amazingly well done translation. I wonder how long it will take thought, as tales as much more text. Good news regardless though!

Didn't all the other Tales games come over? What's the deal with this one?

And is the Tales game that's out worth playing through if I've never played the GC version?

I think for every Tales game that does come over, there are two that don't. Namco Bandai doesn't seem to have much rhyme or reason behind what they choose to translate, but it does seem like they had much higher hopes for Vesperia than what it achieved in sales, and that can't bode well for future games in the series.

Well they are about 10% done going at about 5% per month.

Here is their site: http://www.talesofgraces.com

They are taking donation.

wow, if they can keep up that progress... very impressive indeed. Maybe once this is done somebody can FINALLY begin work on a Tales of Rebirth translation? Please? What if I beg?

Maybe if they would of put it on the ps3, they would realize there is more a market for games like these with mature gamers then shmup FPS lovers.

I am in the second to last dungeon in rebirth and it is an amazing game. Now if only someone do a Destiny remake...

wow, not to keep things off topic, but that makes me so happy! Probably won't be done for a long time, but it's enough that someone is even working on one. I searched the net about a month or so ago, and totally missed that. Wonder if it's the PS2 or PSP release? Anywho, thanks for the heads up 62t!

And that was on a system that isn't positively anemic when it comes to third party (non dancing apparently) games. I don't know what it costs to translate an RPG + publish it in the US but Namco probably does and they know that they won't make any money on Tales games for Wii.

Every time I see this thread bumped, I check it in hopes of seeing that the game was announced for an NA release, only to be incredibly sad to see that is not the case. Nintendo should just say screw it and translate/publish/whatever it needs to do to get the game over here and then promote the shit out of it.

Tales games still did better than most NISA/Atlus/Xseed RPGs, and NISA/Atlus/Xseed managed to stay in business. Namco could also let other company localize Tales games but chose not to.

This is what I don't understand. Wouldn't everyone benefit from any of those three localizing it? They clearly don't have problems localizing even some of the more random crap out there, so the Tales games that Namco doesn't want to bother with should be no brainers.

It's hard to imagine how NISA can make money selling 14 copies of games like Trinity Universe, but Namco can't figure out any way to release more Tales games and stay in the black.

I brought one of the 14 copies of Trinity Universe :(

Not ragging on the game (necessarily), just saying its appeal couldn't be any more micro-niche. In terms of potential sales, a Tales game is like Halo compared to it. Yet NISA finds a way.

I know what you mean but it is kinda sad that NISA can bring a spinoff and Namco can't even get games from the main series.

I assume they don't let other companies touch the series because a terrible localization from some other company would hurt sales of future games.

The thing is, I don't think NISA is making money.

This is coming to the PS3, though only in Japan.

I would like to give a big fuck you to Namco at this time. While I would assume the chances of them bringing a PS3 version over to NA would be better than the Wii version (using Vesperia is a bad example since it's already out here on 360, though it is incomplete in comparison), this will do me no good since I do not have a PS3. So again, I would like to take this opportunity to say fuck you Namco.

LOL.

I would sill like radiant mythology 2 to come out here as well. I have the first one and it isn't bad. Really what I would expect out of a mobile tales.
A PS3 version really wont be hurting our chance of playing this game in English
I never said it would hurt the chances in general. In fact, I said the PS3 version probably means it is more likely to be released here. However, I do not have a PS3, and with this move, I highly doubt they would bother bringing the Wii version out over a PS3 version, so that makes my chances even worse now.

Scamco's response to Ryukahn:

I think their response would be more along the lines of an Asian break-dancing around a plethora of Tales games that have not and will not be released outside of Japan. After a bit, the Asian would stop dancing, cross his arms, and say "YOU MAD!".

 Unfortunately I couldn't find a pic of that, so I went with the default u mad pic.

PS3 looks like the engine Vesperia ran on (probably is the same engine). I hope that we get the PS3 version as I'd rather grab that one than the Wii version. Granted most people here probably don't have the PS3, but I like being selfish in my wants. At least if it doesn't even get localized, I can always import it without the need of buying a JPN console or modding mine.

I already knew they had said that but it doesn't really mean jack as companies say that all the time. However I also know that Namco-Bandai are assholes when it comes to allowing localization, so yeah. Can only hope that the whiners actually come through for once or Namco-Bandai quit being assholes on the main Tales series for once.
