Target & Best Buy: iPad Mini $199.99 In Store Only, iPad 4th Gen $329 @ BB

As for your question. If you can afford the retina mini it's a pretty big jump from the original iPad. What's she going to use it for? My wife uses her mini for Pinterest and web browsing. She also has a 5S, she never once said anything about the screen and loves her mini.

My point being if money is tight and she's gonna be happy with a mini, then this is a good deal. If she needs a better product, then get her the retina.
She's probably just going to use it for typical internet stuff. She hasn't really used her laptop in probably a year or so but is always on her iPhone browsing the internet, Yelping stuff, checking email, etc.

I do know that she would be bringing this along with her to out-of-town work conventions for business work. In the past, she's taken my tablet but she really doesn't like the Android interface and my little tablet is pretty laggy which drives her crazy. That's why I'm worried about the iOS getting too demanding and slowing down this mini.

Bummer that Target didn't drop the Minis with retina $100 alongside the $100 drop on the normal Minis. Probably wouldn't make sense for them to do so, though.

IMO people on this board are too spoiled by amazing tech and deals to appreciate how good this deal and the iPad really are. I get it guys, I'm a tech guy myself but more than that I'm a sucker for good deals and this is one! The device is good, not top of the line but good. I plan to use this to read manga, check email and forums like this. For that 200 isn't bad for a NEW Apple device. You also can't forget that Apple devices have insane retail value. I'll probably flip this when the next iPad mini drops and upgrade to the current retina display when that becomes outdated. You know how it is folks, hard to find any decent deals on Apple goods. Specially outside of any big sales days like Black Friday.

In my experience iOS has never been as laggy as Android. Unless you're talking about the first gen iPad. That thing brought about the tablet craze, but it was a laggy mess. It didn't even get iOS 6, lol

I've had my Mini for a year and I would buy it again today. Everything looks fine on it, doesn't stutter, doesn't lag. Has to reload Chrome and Maps if you have too many apps open more than I would like, but that's the only criticism. Runs latest iOS, and will for at least another one if not two or three years. It's a great deal at $200, and you'd likely see a 80% return on your investment if you decide to upgrade to the Mini Retina 2 or whatever might be announced in September/October.

Think I'm gonna bite.

Hell, got all this Target credit and I'm fed up with my G1 ipad.
Only real issue is that it's only 16gb, where my G1 has 32gb. Gotta be more picky about what I keep on it I s'pose

Looks like Targets are selling out like mad. Couldn't find any online that was still in stock but when I went in to buy one with Retina they ended up finding two more Minis for $200. I was tempted. The cashier was shocked. She thought they all sold out first thing yesterday morning

So i managed to grab one of these yesterday and haven't opened it yet.  I am on fence if i want to keep it or not.  Basically if it will last me a few years i 'm fine with that but will it handle playing games like Hearthstone or Solforge with no problems?

Target really dropped the ball on this deal. The problem at the Target I work for was that even though we were limiting guests to one per customer, Target's Flexible Full Fill Ment Service (this is were you can order items that are in stock at the store online, pay for them online, and just pick them up at the store you selected) wasn't limiting them to 1 per guest. So the resellers were buying up all the inventory. 6 here, 4 there and the guests who actually wanted this deal as a gift or for themselves, couldn't get one. We sold out of 62 black/white combined by 12pm yesterday majority to the Flexible Full Ment option. Then by the time the LOD was made aware of this, he didn't have time to act.

Depends on what you mean by "last a few years". It should be fine with the current OS and current available apps.

The big question mark comes in with a new OS update (iOS 8 and forward).

Leader on Duty

Had no problem at my store. Got there at 7:30 yesterday and there was a line of 20 or so. The LOD must have thought everyone there was for iPads so he went out and asked to please dont run to electronics for the iPads, they have plenty for everyone. Doors open and everyone rushes in and...only 3 people (including me) showed up and bought iPads. Everyone else was just doing regular shopping.

What is Target's return policy?  We picked one up....Wife wanted one, but doesn't really like it.  She likes Android better....this re-affirmed it.

Can I return opened electronics product?  The website seems vague

I keep reading LOD as Lord of Darkness lol

From what I head, it will play Hearthstone just fine. I previously had the iPad 2, and I traded that in for the iPad Air. If didn't have the iPad Air, I would probably go with the iPad 4th Generation. I'm not afraid to say that the iPad is the best tablet I've ever owned. Mind you I have the Nexus 7, and the HP Touchpad.

Sorry to go off topic, but yeah the iPad will last you a few years. They're well built devices and I haven't seen too many issues with them. The only issue I've seen is where people constantly blast music through the speakers or have the volume always set to high, and that's going to eventually blow out the speakers. If you take care of it, you should be golden.

I didn't say the iPad 2 wouldn't work with iOS 8, just that each new iOS update brings the model closer to obsolescence. I am saying that going out and buying an iPad 2 wouldn't be wise, and someone else claims on here that the iPad Mini is just a shrunk down iPad 2, which is why I suggest waiting for a good deal on the Mini with Retina.
I totally agree. I bought my iPad 2 in 2011, and...well frankly support might end next year, which is a joke next to Windows, but great compared to Android.

Anyway I wouldn't buy an iOS device based around that platform.

That iPad 4 is really tempting though for that price. 16GB is stingy, but I've been making due with it on my iPad 2. I might actually like the firm factor more than the 5 because I like the sides to hold on to. The 5 is considerably more powerful, but the 4 is still powerful, and still has the high quality screen... for a fancy ereader/media device it's actually a really good price...

Hmm...I keep hoping they come out with a 12" model though as keeps being rumored. I'd like something that can mimic an actual magazine or graphic novel page, and the 9.7" screen is still much smaller....but $329 for something that will probably last years...hmm...

I've had an iPad 2 32GB since day one. I'm considering getting the iPad 4 16GB now at best buy since the trade in value for mine is about $150, the difference overall would be $180 to upgrade. I'll lose storage space but gain a tremendous amount of speed from what I gather.

Currently I'm only using 5GBs of space on my iPad but that's because it's just so damn slow with iOS7. In safari multiple tabbed sites constantly have to refresh due to low memory. Do you think it'll be a worthwhile upgrade? Other benefits include one charger (I own a 5S, and same dimensions as I have multiple cases for my iPad 2).

Yes it will be a great upgrade. My wife had an iPad 2, I was able to trade even for an iPad mini. That was an upgrade in itself (super snappy, iPad 2 was slow). I have a 4th gen and it's a night and day difference between it and an iPad 2. It's worth it alone for he retina screen.

Yeah it would. I have the 16GB iPad Air, and I stream everything to it including movies, music with my Wetsern Digital My Cloud 2TB external drive. At times I wish I had more space on it, but I have a few games on there and some streaming apps like HBO Go etc.

With all of the different cloud services and streaming methods 16 GB is plenty of space unless you're a content/game/app hoarder
