Target Buy 2 get 1 free sale

Hey all, im looking at this target Buy 2 get 1 free deal they have running now.  I have a question though, on PC games you are given a physical copy of the game.  Are you able to use the code they give you to add the game to steam/origin/uplay?  or is it a stand alone install of the game?

codes will work in the game releases for that platform.

Steamwork games will 100% have a steam code in box at retail,

EA games like BF4 100% have origin code in box at retail,

but some games are just standalones that don't connect to any services so google before you buy.
