The Xbox and 4 controllers is the deal of the show. That's not a bad price. You could easily sell two of the controllers, and put that towards a 320GB HDD.

Seems like small Wii U console deals keep popping up after the holidays. They must not be selling. I think a 3DS like price drop is in the works and will be applied during this year's E3.

I wouldn't be so quick to draw that conclusion... it's really not an enormous discount. I might be inclined toward that line of thought if there was only a Wii U deal, but considering the 360 and PS3 have deals posted also, nah. I wouldn't even count on a price drop unless the system just cannot budge between now and E3. We'll see.

If you were to tell me the basic package was discontinued in favor of a white Pro model, I'd believe that - over the holidays, I saw Basics in stock everywhere, with Pros much less abundant.

It's still a sign of the system isn't doing too well when small sales are already happening at various places 2 months after the system is launched. The 360/PS3 has been out for over half a decade so sales on them are natural. You did not see them on sale of any kind, let alone finding them in stores in 2005/2006 respectively and they were more expensive systems.

Compared to how the Wii launched, it's doing miserably. Consumers are wiser this time or it's not even on their radar. It's also a console years late to the war.

It might get a boost now that Nintendo announced some plans today for the future, but come this holiday season it will likely be crushed under the weight of other new hardware and exclusives. E3 will be telltale this year.

It should have had stronger technical specs, especially the "slow" cpu. When ports of some existing games run worse than those running on 7 year old hardware, then you're going to have problems. Even if they haven't learned how to optimize coding on the wii u, I recall some of these developers saying that the wii u had plenty of power to handle these ports, but it sure didn't show up in the final product.
